    @ Ric Juliano: Efren was so good he had trouble finding competition to play for money so he stopped playing pocket billiards in 1976 to take up carom (three cushion billiards), which used to be popular in the Philippines. But he became so good at carom that, like pool, nobody wanted to play him. So he returned to pocket billiards.

    • @ricj6817
      @ricj6817 10 лет назад +6

      Thanks for your response, I thought he stopped playing for some other reason. I knew then when I was watching him played in the mid 70’s that he’s having problem finding competition both in pocket billiards and carom ‘coz he's so good that nobody wants to play him for money anymore. The good thing is he decided to come to U.S. and the rest is history. Efren’s knowledge in pool, I believe is a big contribution to the history of the sport and no doubt about it, many considered him probably as the greatest pool player of all time. Mabuhay ka Bata!

    I played rotation a lot with some Filipino guys years ago and it's fairly simple. Basically the foul rules are:
    1. If I take a shot (say on the 1) and miss it, the other guy has 2 options: play the shot form where it finishes or pick up the 1 and cue ball. Spot the 1 and then have ball in hand with the white behind the balk line. If there are other balls near / on the spot, the 1 is placed behind them.
    2. If I have a tough shot on, say, the 1 and it's obvious that I deliberately didn't try to shoot the 1 (a bit controversial usually) then you can call me on that and call it a foul. I have the option to either play it as it ends up of make you take the shot again, putting the cue ball and 1 back where they were (like in snooker).
    That's pretty much it really. Other than that it's like 9 or 10 ball in the sense that you run the balls in order. You get the face value the ball you pocket (can be combo too) and the first to 61 wins. Total of the balls is 120. It's a good game. It can get very tactical.

      Sounds fun. Gotta try it! Here in Utah among us polynesians, we play a game called "Numbers". Same rules as 9 ball but with all 15 balls. You don't win by making the 15 ball though. Every ball you make you collect at the end of your turn. At the end of the game you count the balls you pocketed by the numbers on the balls. For example: the game is over and i only pocketed the 2, 6, 7, and 15. My points total for the game is 30.
      Player with the highest points wins the game and money. Usually every player pays $5-$10 a game. And you can play with 2-5 players. Really fun game especially when you win lol

      @kaitoti21 3 года назад

    • @seniorrider9337
      @seniorrider9337 2 года назад

      The key to winning in rotation , from what I have seen, is letting the opponent pocket the small number balls and try to get on the table and run the 10 thru 14 which will give you 60 plus any small balls you may have pocketed. If you get on the table say at the 8 or 9, you have less interfering balls and a better chance to run out to 60 points. Of course the other guy has to miss and you have to have a good shot to start. Looks like a fun game for two fairly evenly skilled players. I have never played it, but would try.

    Efren: “Milk Fish!”
    🤣🤣 The way he said it instantly took me back to It’s Always Sunny when Charlie says his favorite food is Milk Steak.

      It's an actual fish, popular in the Philippines, Indonesia and Taiwan... unique to the region. I don't think it's exported outside Southeast Asia. Its flesh is perfectly white, like it has no blood. It's also a little fatty.

    At 54:10 Efren said he stopped playing in 1976 and start playing again in 1981, I wonder why. I become a big fan of Efren seeing how good he played during those years 1974-76...really amazing. Although Parica was still the no. 1 player in the Philippines that time, I knew then that sooner Efren will end up the better of the 2.. 'coz i'm seeing something totally different in his stroke and his unbelievable knowledge how to play the game.. something magical no one can do except him.. and it didn't take long and they call him "The Magician" when he started playing in U.S.

      Ric Juliano i have watched the story of efren including his interview about his life he stopped playing that time because in the next years in every game he lose... so he lose hope and he said he never want to play again but his friend told him "what if its like turning table? You always win in every of your game this time... just try and try... efren listened and thats it , he became the great player called the magician...
