    bought one back in 2012 stays with me in the truck all the time. best part it fits like into a college or high school kids backpack easily portable.. along as the old trusty Ibanez for jamming.. love the fact that runs on batteries cuz even though I have an inverter that can convert to AC power there's too much electronics in a big truck with electronic engine CB satellite transmissions GPS it just basically gives so much crazy feedback..yet there's hardly any love for these and I don't know why you see people jumping up and down and going ape shitt over Line 6 and Fender mustangs and all the others and I've played them but what I like about the rolland in this for such a tiny little thing in a bedroom apartment especially in a long-haul semi the sound is like having a little old-fashioned ghetto blaster as we call them in the states, or boombox it's so portable and light but sound so damn good..plus people have to remember Roland owns boss so you're getting on the effects unlike some of the other chintzy modeling amps that sound horiffic with their built-in effects when you're buying Roland products they own Boss.. you're getting some of the best stompbox effects around...I love my little Roland micro cube I think it's one of the best amps I've ever bought.
    and I still use it liberally sometimes when I go home I don't even want to hook up a big amp if I'm just working on something or jamming with some music and a small bedroom I just plug in the Rolland and away we go..
    I think I make a video from the truck pretty soon about showing yes I can play an electric guitar and an over-the-road semi in my time off and a little demo too.. great video glad to see some people are still liking these little things in fact I think I might upgrade eventually to a Roland cube Street cube just to have one of them too..but I can tell you right now it just amazes me when you bring it up in the subject of like a regular guitar forum for a Roland micro cube it's just ignored everybody jumps up and down about the Line 6 and all the other ones but oh well maybe it's better that way it's our little secret we know these little amps Kick-Ass🎶🎸😎🚛

    Good review. I've been playing for forty years. I've owned them all, lots of fender tube amps, orange, vox ac15, modeling amps...you name it.
    If I was pro who played for a living, I'd still have a few of the above. But for what I do, playing for fun at home and occasionally friends' houses, the micro cube is all I need. I've sold all the others and a dozen pedals.
    After decades of wasting time and money, I'm actually glad to be past the GAS stage.
    The micro cube (I've got the new gx) is fantastic.

    I've heard about people painting the grill black on their Roland Cubes before -- of all types -- but I never thought I'd like it. However, I must say, that with the red body on your Micro Cube, and the black corners, the grill looks amazing in black! It was a really great choice to paint it! Incidentally, I was thinking about selling one of my two Cube Street amps to get one of the newer Micro Cube GXs. What do you think about this plan, as I don't need two Cube Streets anymore?

    heyy hello there i have an old microcube and I've got some problems wondering if you could shed some light on it. It's making a lot of buzzing noise when I plug in the guitar and don't play. And when I play it makes even more buzzing to the point that overshadows my playing especially on the jc clear mode. The sound is just not clean at all which is really really annoying. Do you have any idea why it's like this and how to fix it? Thank you so much.

    • @DarrylSyms
      @DarrylSyms  4 года назад

      No idea sorry! It could be the amp, cable, or guitar. Try to isolate each part of the chain to see what the issue is, and if you’re sure it’s the cube then it’s best to take it to a shop or electrician 👍

I was ready to buy it until i saw this video, i dont have money to buy microcube right now, i think i should wait and increase my budget if its a better deal and if i-cube link can do what irig does then its a bonus for me haha :)

      @DarrylSyms  6 лет назад

      Gotcha! I don't know much about the I-Cube link I'm afraid, sorry! Perhaps this link will help: www.rolandus.com/go/icubelink/ ? Also, I would definitely save your money for a Cube over a Marshall MS4. You won't be disappointed, and the MS4 will probably sound quite harsh and trebley in comparison to the cube. Check out eBay to find a used one for cheaper! :)

    Great review, great amp too. I've got a Microcube and a Cube 40GX, cracking amps. The only thing I've struggled with, on the Microcube, is the intro to Foxy Lady. Hendrix, live, used, of course, Marshall stacks, volume and sustain. At lowish volumes, at home etc, I'd just set an amp how I wanted it (Session, Peavey, Carvin etc) with the guitar volume at zero, and wind up the volume, rolling it up, using the guitar volume with my little finger. I've tried it on the Microcube and it won't do it, I've tried everything. The amp seems to cut the volume off, not sure if its some sort of noise cancelling circuitry. Any ideas gratefully received. Apart from that anomaly the Cubes are very versatile and I recommend them. 30 years ago if we had amps like these we would have been in heaven!

    • @DarrylSyms
      @DarrylSyms  5 лет назад +2

      I think I know what you mean? I have the same thing happen at its lowest possible volume. It’s quiet, but cuts off as if there’s a noise gate. But I never play that quiet so it’s not an issue. If you can, just turn up 🙂

    • @musoseven8218
      @musoseven8218 5 лет назад +1

      Darryl Syms Hi, thanks, I did wonder if there was noise gate type tech (especially as Roland/Boss are well versed in such things). My challenge these days, with volume, is hearing issues, which certain volumes, frequencies hamper. I dont have amp ultra quiet, although its probably quieter than I used to play when younger. I might try a couple of footpedals and see if that will overcome the issue of the cut off. Many thanks for the explanation.

    • @ReneeNme
      @ReneeNme 6 лет назад +2

      + B Thomas ( snicker ) I take it you're specifically referring to the Katana Mini. That's like comparing apples to oranges. The Micro Cube GX and the original Micro Cube are BY FAR !!! better sounding amplifiers than the Katana Mini. The Mini reminds me of an offering that a retailer such as Walmart would have on their store shelves along with their El Cheapo electric guitars. Sure, the Mini comes out at a low price point of only $100 dollars, sports 7 watts of maximum output, BUT !!! it only weighs in at a mere 2.6 pounds due to its plastic housing. Then you have the Cube ... Yes, while it has a lower maximum output of only 3 watts, a price point a little higher ( $135 to $150 dollars ), it also weighs in at A HEFTY 6 POUNDS !!! because the amplifier cabinets are made of wood ( which means warmer tone ). Then there's the myriad of settings available on the Cube compared to the Mini. Long story short ? There's a reason why the Micro Cube continues to be the best selling micro amp year after year at our near their price point. Why ?? Because they're the best of the best. Sure, the Mini can get louder than the Cube, but that's where the comparison ends = Louder doesn't always mean Better.

    • @Boogieplex
      @Boogieplex 6 лет назад +1

      ReneeNme i just a/b’d the micro cube gx and the katana mini(I bought both) and let me tell you,the Cube not only is louder by a country mile,but sounds better on the classic stack setting. It makes the katana mini feel small and muddy and scooped. I don’t know why the cube is almost twice as loud being less watts,but trust me it is. I sent back the katana mini and kept the cube,and have no regrets.

  • @llwayneio

    I'm still trying to decide on what amp to buy as a beginner for practice. I've been looking at the yamaha thr10 and boss katana amps as they've been given great reviews. Perhaps this would be more suitable? It's certainly cheaper.

    • @DarrylSyms
      @DarrylSyms  7 лет назад +2

      I can only recommend this and the THR10. This one is certainly the cheapest and most robust though, and I just LOVE the tone :) The THR10 is also a good one too though. Depends what you have the budget for :) Think about this too... You could save £100 by buying the Microcube and invest that £100 into something else, like a pickup or something. And if you were to buy the Microbe second hand you could probably find one for less than £50!

    • @llwayneio
      @llwayneio 7 лет назад

      I don't want to spend more than £200. Ideally £150 (I've missed out on 2 thr10s on ebay for £140-£160). The microcubes seem to be going for around £60-£70. I'm not sure if the thr10 is worth the extra or not.

    • @DarrylSyms
      @DarrylSyms  7 лет назад

      If you have money to spend every month then sure go for the THR10 if you want. But if you value your money then I suggest getting the Cube and investing your change into other areas of your rig

    • @llwayneio
      @llwayneio 7 лет назад

      Cool thank you. I think a trip to mansons is in order, they seem to have both in stock. You're tone here is great so if I can't notice much difference I'll grab the cube. I have an old ibanez rg with a stock ibanez pickup in the neck and a duncan invader in the bridge and a fender lite ash tele with Duncan: APTR-1 Alnico II Pros. Both guitars are 2nd hand and could use a little maintenance (fender frets are a bit worn) so the money saved will be spent on getting them set up etc.

      Nice man, sounds like you know what to do! If you happen to be in Devon, I fully recommend getting a setup from a fella called Ian Randall. I've played so many guitars after he's set them up and it's magical! Best of luck on your quest :)
