    I buy 2 gallon ziploc bags to pack clothing in because it minimizes wrinkles and damage from liquids. Also, it provides more room in the suitcase when the air is squeezed out. Dirty clothes can then be placed back in the bags for the trip home.

    I remember our first cruise 13 years ago. It was to attend a wedding. We had huge suitcases! We packed long dresses and tuxedoes for the wedding, we also had dresses for formal nights, outfits for the many activities planned for the week plus the 5 swim suits we were sure we were going to need! Through the years we learned to pack better and we learned to buy better packable clothing. Now I often pack in 35 L suitcase type backpack and depending on the type of trip I might also bring along a small under seater suitcase. We still have that huge suitcase we had bought for our first cruise and we look at it and laugh and we let her know that she has been retired and she will never roll to anywhere again. 🤣

    One thing I like to do is pack my hair elastics and headbands around bulky rolled up items so that they don't unroll in transit and it makes double duty for my hair pretties.

    great tips...we are planning our first cruise soon...:) we pack each of our outfit inside shower cap or ziploc bag with a dryer sheet ..it smells great...also, we sprinkle some baking soda on the inside of the shoes/slip on before putting inside shower cap and wipe it when it is time to wear...no smelly shoes:)

    Your recommendation of three pairs of shoes is spot on. I actually took three pairs of dressy shoes, 1 pair sandals ( which I wore to board, 1 pair of athletic shoes. My daughter; who LOVES shoes; actually took an entire suitcase of just shoes! But we weren't flying. We drove to the cruise port.

    I am determined to pack lightly on my upcoming cruise. THANK YOU, THANK YOU for this terrific and helpful vlog. I find that being an experienced cruiser a person don't need a lot of stuff. So lightweight maxi dresses for sea days, bermuda shorts for port days.
    For the two formal nights, one pair of black palazzo pants with two very fancy tops. one pair of sneakers, one pair of flip flops, and one pair of dress sandals. place them in my packing cubes. personal items like medication, passports and paperwork in backpack. So that's the plan......hopefully

    Packing shoes: Dollar Store clear plastic shower caps
    Costume jewelry: long necklaces and bracelets can be wrapped around t-shirts to keep them from tangling. Wrap short necklaces around tampons (I know it's weird). Put earring posts and rings in a medicine bottle with no labels.

    Leaps and bounds an improvement! I'm so proud!!! When It comes to packing shoes, you may find it easier to wrap them individually. The shoe bags I have are from Ebags, tho any plastic grocery store bag will do. Then for flip flops, I'll put a pair in a bag stacked heel to toe, and use those in that pesky bar space in the center. Another tip to prevent over packing is to limit yourself to a set of smaller size packing cubes. This way you can stay organized, and limit the amount you bring with you.

    WOW!! My carry on contains all my meds (most prescription in their RX bottles - and my medical info), my iPad Pro and one emergency change of clothes (in case my BIG suitcase doesn't arrive on time)! I don't do backpacks - but my travel waist pack is very roomy - carrying important papers/passport/wallet/etc. I don't think I could go anywhere for a whole week with just a carry on!! I am a compulsive over packer!!
    BTW - I bought the wrinkle wiz spray from your Amazon marketplace! Along with my travel Shout and Clorox pen, I can usually keep my clothes looking ok! Even on warm weather cruises, I change clothes a lot. Get all hot and sweaty - I'm a tee shirt/tank top and shorts type of person. Even for dress up nights - I have a few lightweight sparkly shell tops and dressy, lightweight slacks - and I just bring fancy sandals - no heels for me!! I also use soft sided luggage, to stuff in more things (been lucky with an American Tourister that has survived many vacations). And when I go on cold weather cruises (you know I love Alaska), all bets are off - I do wear all the layers on the airplane - and on one trip to Alaska - we were there the last week of the season, we bought so much stuff from the gift shops - we mailed our dirty clothes back home at the post office in Ketchikan!!

I do roll stuff, but he has some better styles! lol I kept laughing because your clothes are so cute and petite. My whole family is over 5'10 - 6'5 nothing petite about our clothes so they don't pack as compactly. lol I will use your tips come November! ;0) Happy Cruising!!!

    Picking a color palate and a few layered basics with coordinating jewelry and scarves are huge- you can even buy little tassles/decorations that clip onto shoes to dress them up! Accessorizing is the key- you can often take 5-7 lightweight fabric items of clothing and pack them with a few accessories and it changes the wardrobes completely and are easy to wash/hang dry. Also, light infinity scarves with hidden zipper pockets are a MUST- no handbag or backpack when on excursions-you can even take sunscreen in small travel packets- ask your dermatologist (I'm a derm PA), they will be glad to set you up with the FREE samples they get from their drug reps! Let's face it, most of us never use half of what was in our backpacks on excursions anyway! Pack collapsible hats, and protect that skin---your older self will thank you when you don't have the wrinkles and skin cancer of your peers! ;)

    For the first time I bought stick on dress shields for my 2 week cruise. They were inexpensive on Amazon and a pair were wrapped in a single package, making packing them very easy. The shield help make a shirt worn not just one day but 2, especially the dinner tops. I have left overs for my next cruise. Try it......

    One more thought: unlike Cal's ridiculous gift to Rose(Titanic reference for you who didn't see the movie), there's no need to show off expensive jewelry. They're probably safer at home anyway, and most "costume jewelry" is just a space stealer. Keep it simple, wear something that goes with most outfits and forgo the rest.

    I don't know of I could pack this light! I scaled down our luggage for 2 adults and a 4 year old into 2 large suitcases, 3 small for our 7nt cruise. All my sons clothes fit into one of the small ones. One large is just for clothes, the other is for our toiletries, medicines, laundry kit, and other extras (trust me I didn't pack everything I "thought" we needed). One carry on has my sons activities for the plane and spare clothes and the other has our stuff for the plane. I probably still WAY overpacked, but for me this is doing pretty good 😊

    Rolling clothes when packing was the best packing technique invented...don't forget your underwear and pj's🤫! One other packing tool are the packing squares which aren't just for larger suitcases. Plus I love them because you can categorize what you pack. So your pj's and undies can be in a square that you only grab those items. Thanks for sharing all the tips.👏🙏🤗

    If you fly to your cruise port I would leave out thing that you can buy, i.e. things that go into your 3-1-1 bag, at the local store near the port. Keep this to things that you will not mind if you have a little bit leftover that you can just trash at the end of the cruise. Plus pick-up your 2 bottles of wine and 12 cans/ bottles of drinks that you can brink on the ship.

    When your packing to leave take your own towel (if your carry on luggage doesn’t have some sort of separator already ) and put your dirty clothes under and then you can have your clean clothes intact

    I find that instead of rolling my clothes, I lay them out flat, not folding or rolling...pressing out the wrinkles. They actually take up less room and when I get to my destination...NO wrinkles! One thing you have to be careful with this technique, though, is it easy to over pack, because you can fit so much more into your luggage.

  • @arthurlangton8301

  • @jeffo1110

    My ONLY tip is DO NOT OVERPACK!(not yelling, just emphasizing) So many people have the mistaken idea that you must dress fancy on a cruise - but it is no different than packing for a land based resort, with the possible exception of formal night, that isn't necessarily THAT formal. If DH isn't wearing a tux(hasn't so far and no problems) I'm not going to do a fancy gown, simple but pretty cocktail dresses, like the ones you showed in the video, are plenty. And like you said re-wearing last nights' dinner outfit is a no brainer. Thanks for your tips and vids, Jodi=-)

Great video - as always :-) Today is the float out of Norwegian Joy at the Meyer Shipyard/Meyer Werft in Papenburg/Germany (a lot of Norwegian and Royal Carribean ships were built there). If you were driving to the cruise port would over packing be as big of an issue? Thanks for all the great videos for first time cruisers!

    • @CruiseTipsTV
      @CruiseTipsTV  7 лет назад

      +Dereck Armstrong Great question. It's definitely not a consideration when you're driving to Port, which we normally do. If you look at some of our older packing videos you'll see we pack way way way more stuff when driving to port.

    I'm cruising from Galveston to the Western Caribbean in late May 2019 for 5 days. Since it's spring, I'm guessing it may be cool. rainy, &/or windy. What types of ladies tops and bottoms would you suggest I pack so I won't be too cold on the ship? Packing for warm, sunny days is so much easier! Really enjoying your videos. Thank you.

    I didn't see underpants and bras. Were they in the packing cube. We are going on a 14 day cruise this fall. Do you have any hints on packing for that? I love your channels. They are very helpful!

      +Becky Hopper yes! Keeping it mysterious in that department - swimsuits were in there too. I recommend you watch our packing video on packing for a 10 night cruise. I will get a link for you.

    I think you guys have covered this in previous episodes, but what about the usage of air tight space bags? Do you find those helpful?

    Awesome tips!! We are cruising next month!! (August) with the formal nights, my hubby has a suit to wear, but with that we would have to bring a garment bag right? I don't want to wrinkle his nice suits.

    • @CruiseTipsTV
      @CruiseTipsTV  7 лет назад

      It's probably a good idea to leave it in the garment bag from the place you bought it, yes, definitely!

    Where do you carry your case(s) of soda when you go carry on only? My concern when we cruise if we go carry on only, our personal item bags will be too full, as well as our suitcases, to bring on the pop we are allowed to bring and the bottle of wine per person.

    Love the video, What of your thoughts for me? Every summer I get chance to go back to my home state to New Jersey from Arizona for a month of August I am over packed. This summer we took a break so I'm hoping I go next summer sorry for the comment being long do you think I should try to week next year? We do 2 check in luggage for south west ( that might be over for next year we hard they going to stop so we shall see) anyways one was for clothes and other one to bring back good food for family of stuff we dont have here in Arizona. My uncle aunt live close by of next town so I can do my own laundry there I'm hoping they will get have chance hook the new washer dryer for the family house, here a tip buy laundry detergent from dollar store if you have big tug you can put in the small dollar store Laundry detergent in that bottle, if my two week packing works next summer I'll make a video 😁 and put dryer sheet too to smell good

    How do you tackle getting enough face lotions, sunscreen, and hair products in a carry on bag?

    • @CruiseTipsTV
      @CruiseTipsTV  3 года назад

      Definitely tricky! I take very small amounts of only the necessities. For example I use a very small container of night cream, day cream, lotions etc. I always buy my sunscreen if I’m flying in my final destination. Usually the sunscreen takes up most space

    I'm surprised you didn't use packing cubes :)
    Also, could you make a video about packing minimal make-up without 'looking' like you only packed minimal make-up? :p haha

    • @CruiseTipsTV
      @CruiseTipsTV  7 лет назад

      Hey! We wanted to show the rolling process in this vid, so we didn't use the packing cubes. Fun idea on the makeup video. I don't normally do beauty tips, because I don't consider myself expert in that area, but I'd love to give it a try. We'll work on adding that to our episode list in the coming months!
