As a note, I think the E55 is a reliable car in general. The problems mentioned in this video are the things you should be looking out for - by no means does that imply that all E55s will have these problems.

Have you heard about the o-ring of the oil pump line that will get hard and therefore leaky at some point? I have seen some video from the channel sk8215 who had the same exact problem on two engines. Just consider looking up that problem as it can simply cut the oil feed to your engine. I'm glad you mentioned transmission fluid, it is extremely important. I now change it regularly in all my vehicles. When automatic transmissions give out, they're so expensive to rebuild and replace. Simply changing the fluid every 25,000-30,000 miles is all it takes for the transmission to last the lifetime of the vehicle.

Thanks for all the info on the E55. I'm not sure why but I've got a "maybe I should have one of these" going on in my brain. Currently, my daily is a 14 E550 w/around 575 horses (a sleeper w/no other mods) and is as dependable as designed. The more I watch these vids about the older E- AMG's the more interest I have. As it is with my 550 it could be the raw power under the hood with that supercharger. Had a Jag/Ford R and that was a fun car.

when you put your foot in it, it puts a boot in the ass of even Corvettes. How they manage to make a 4500 lb tank get up n go TAT fast ins a minor miracle. Near fatal bicycle accident cost me all my finances and unfortunately, my 06 E55 beast. I miss that car EVERY DAY and when God blesses me back with money I will not get a new one but a great shape 06 E55 again. NOTHING beats that unreal torque. 540 ft lbs at less that 2000 rpm is insane. Boot it from 60 to 100+ mph and it STILL pins you against the seat... truly insane.
As an ex motocross racer I had to take the AMG Academy driving class cos I was trying to use it like a race car. Its NOT...its a big heavy REALLY FAST street car. :-)

E55s for the most part are solid. Problem is when shit goes they’re expensive fixes that cost $1000 and more to fix . Mine has over 200,000 miles on it . I’ve taken mine to the dealership only because the few times I’ve taken to other shops someone fucks something up and we are talking simple things. Right now I’m in litigation with Service Street in Snellville Ga because they took it out for a so called test drive for an alignment and somehow my radiator decided to crack after they did it. I would’ve gone to the dealership for the alignment too but would’ve had to make an appointment.

One thing you did not mention is Heater Cores and A/C condensers which are mounted as like all cars deep inside the dash. This is a 5K Labor job, not to mention the OEM parts price.

Back in Sep 2014 I bought a 2005 W220 S65 AMG. It was really nice and well taken care of with just 29400 miles on it. But the dealer screwed me big time! The left rotor was uneven due to corrosion, and the left power steering tube leaked badly! Nothing that the dealer mentioned, and before we signed the deal I asked him to lift the car for me, he said his lift is busy working on a car with transmission issues. So anyway, I signed the deal and set myself back about $3800. Isn't that great??? Anyway, I still have the car, I love it so much that I'll never sell it. The maintenance is not cheap, but who said a V12 is cheap to own? Next week I'm shifting to new summer tires, Michelin Sport 4S. Including the tires, inspection of the entire car and engine, service, front break pads and rotors, new tube, undercoating, changed oil and filter in the ABC system, new GPS CD, I've spend approx $14000 on it. What the hell.... you only live once... enjoy it! PS: You can check out the car on FB page AMG of sweden.

Paul Lowell I called them and they said I have to pay for an inspection, like $150, and if they determine that that's correct then they will fix it but if it's anything else it could be pretty spendy. I'm wondering what's going to happen in my specific situation

What should I do if dealers say they did not have service records passed to them when they got the car? Should I call a MB dealer and see if they can provide any records? or just look for everything myself

I'd recommend getting a pre-purchase inspection if you don't have any info on the car. Otherwise you can use that to negotiate a better deal.

As I always tell people who are want to buy any Mercedes-AMG: Buy one owner car, all services at MB dealer, no tunning at all, all stock, don't buy from students/young people. Once car stopped visiting MB dealer, run away from this car. To get fix a beaten up Mercedes-AMG even by yourself will cost you $$$. Do at least major services at MB dealers. Can't pay at dealer than you can't afford to maintain this car. Just my $ 0.02

    • @dlwst44

If its the defective brand, just change it regardless of miles. When it goes, it ruins the transmission.
