How come that I never heard this before? Maybe the answer can be found in the introduction: "Ludwig van Beethoven (1770 - 1827) published two piano sonatas under the opus number 27: the Piano Sonata No. 13 in E-flat major, Op. 27/1 and the Piano Sonata No. 14 in C-sharp minor, Op. 27/2, which became world famous under the title Moonlight Sonata." This for sure is not Moonlight Sonata, but still brillant music, so the op 27/1 is worth listenig to. A lot.

Please excuse me, now I have learned that there are a lot of uptakings of this Op 27/1, for example with Igor Levit. But for me this was a new experience.

The Opus 27 no. 1 has long been overshadowed by it's cousin, the "Moonlight Sonata." Even Beethoven himself did not know what all the fuss was about with the c-sharp minor, and said that he had written better. For me, the E flat sonata is absolutely phenomenal. Wagner referred to movement III. Adagio, as "the eternal melody."
