The original song is off of Bright Eyes' 2005 album, I’m wide awake, it’s morning. Mac covered the song because he resonated with his lyrics. Conor Oberst is widely known for dealing with depression, which comes across in much of his music. Mac and Conor come from entirely different genres, which makes the cover of this song even more compelling. I would’ve loved to see them perform this together. The crossover would’ve been phenomenal. 8 years man. 8 years I’ve been listening to this. I was 13 when I found this song. It made me fall in love with macs music. I miss his music so much. Nothing was better than hearing he was dropping new music. I was so excited to go to the swimming tour before he died. It shattered me. Whenever I come back to this song, it reminds me of all the memories of my childhood and how mac was always along for all of it. It’s so crazy how someone we never even met could feel like a best friend. Rest In Peace Malcom. You’re forever loved
Been a big fan since 2013 and we're also the same age, it's so crazy seeing this comment it's like looking in the mirror .. now I'm tearing up .. can't believe 2014 was 8 years already I still remember being at my homies waiting for Faces to drop then "made Mac" a sandwich to download it 😂
I also remember listening to "ride slow" off Ab-Soul's these days album for the first time where Larry Fisherman made the beat, Danny Brown and Delusional Thomas is featured along with a fuckin hidden Earl Sweatshirt feature, being so damn amazed to continue packing for camp . Everyone talks about Earl and Mac but Ab-Soul and Mac were the true dynamic duo .
Never been a day I don't listen to him, he's all over my playlists on every platform fr . Never gonna get tired of our boy, it's been almost a decade strong now 💪🏽 .

Been listening to Conor Oberst since 2004 and Mac since 2006. When I found this, it all felt so surreal, like the 3 of us had a shared experience we would never speak about but all felt comforted by. Not sure if that makes sense but...
i’m sadly new to mac, heard of him about a year before he passed, when i was 11 (i’m 17) i find this community so lovely, mac has moved all of us in such incredible ways that we feel closely connected to him, and it’s beautiful to me. i’m sad i never got to experience a concert, and sing along to every single word; but all of us sharing this love we have for mac, feeling his music, and connecting bc of him is about the closest thing to that i’ll ever get. forever loved as you said man, i can’t wait to show my kids mac, my grandkids, honestly anyone that’ll listen that hasn’t before. thank you, this comment was so cute☺️

This is the first time I’ve ever heard this cover. It’s so special to be able to hear his voice for the first time again. I didn’t know if I would ever experience this feeling again. It’s much sadder this time. Grief is a fickle thing.
