I worked at a rescue and there was a donkey named Alice who no one liked. She was cooperative until she wasn't, ya know? So I figured out she liked to be brushed. Like, really really really LOVED being brushed. Since no one else really liked her, I took over her care and would hold her lead in one hand and the brush in the other. When she locked her legs I would shake the brush and she would cross the short distance for a few strokes. I could inch her across the yard pretty quick like this, and soon she would just follow me around. She went from big stubborn ass to big hooved puppy in a week
It may not look like much to only be able to brush one cow, but the fact that they allow you to approach in the first place and even just touch them once with the brush is a huge testament to how much they actually do trust you.
@andonova6541 respectfully, do these look like theyre acting like big dogs to you? Ever tried to touch a random cow before? Ever had to tag one? Theyre not big dogs, theyre cows. "Grass puppies" is sure cute, but theyre not puppies, theyre 2000lb cattle.
Honestly once one starts getting brushies the others learn anlot quicker. They see she is fine and likes it and usually get more comfortable with the brushes and you around them with it
Just a tip on getting them used to being brushed. Cows most favourite spot to be brushed is the tailbone. Calmly and quietly walk up and start scratching their tailbone and once they’re comfortable with that start using the brush while still scratching them. Before you know it they’ll love it and won’t be able to get enough. I’ve tamed lots of cows by sneaking up while they sleep and start scratching their tailbone. It’s hilarious because they have a worried look on their face but they don’t want to leave cause they love it lol
I'm pretty sure these animals were semi feral. and obviously you didn't tame the animal if it was okay with you brushing it or walking up to it. If a cow isn't comfortable with people you're not getting near it and you shouldn't sneak up on any potentially 2000pound animal to try scratch it😂 Especially if the animal is unsure of you enough to not let you brush it sneaking up behind it is just a terrible idea. If you get away with that it's only because the animal liked you in the first place
@@johndiddilyjoe6258 it’s never gone wrong sneaking up on any of my cows because they aren’t crazy, and even if they were cattle pretty much always choose flight over fight so even a crazy wild cow will just get up and run away when snuck up on. I’ve been taming cows that way my whole life and at the moment I’ve got a herd of close to 40 cattle pretty much all tamed that way so I think it’s safe to say I know it works and works well. I spend a lot of time with them so they’re quiet then do that to get them to like me. Some of them the first few times doing it they just quickly got up and left and after a few times they’d just stay. His cows are quiet enough it would work on them too. We bought new heifers this spring and they were quiet but couldn’t get near them to pet them, they did not know me or like me and I tamed most of them right away doing that and I didn’t get hurt so no, I don’t just get away with it cause they like me. The thing you need to understand about cows is there’s two things they love and will do anything for: food and an itchy spot they can’t reach scratched. That’s why it works so well, they can’t reach their tailbone so it’s hella itchy and they want it scratched. Taming any animal is a process and obviously if you walk up to the wildest thing you own and just start scratching it while it sleeps it’ll just run away and you won’t get far. They have to be sorta quieted down first by seeing you or other people around a lot.
@@countrygirl7788 well yeah in your first comment you said before the animal even knows you, you should sneak up on and scratch it while it's sleeping to earn it's trust, Which yeah I don't think needs to be said is stupid.
