Did you every Play Zenith in VR ?
Never had a VR so no
i've played it once and got bored afterwards i also got jump scared by someone when trying to make a cookie
I played it. I enjoyed it most of the way to level 40. Sadly it never seemed to get bug fixes or meaningful story.
Sure..cool but mob lag a lot
i have im thinking of hoppong on again 1 last time to say good bye
VR MMORPGs are such a huge opportunity that many companies aren't using to it's full potential. They really should make more.
it sadly takes a lot of time and effort to make them especially in virtual reality
Serious development don't like to try new things is the issue
I played when it first released and you could very easily tell they took inspiration from SAO and other VR gaming anime. I just kinda feel like they bit off more than they could chew and tried to become SAO before VR can really get off the ground
that is a very good point you make. Did you still enjoy the game though?
@@VRelity Oh yeah at the time it def was a ton of fun at first. I still remember the first time I climbed to the top of the first mountain you encounter in the starter area near the first dungeon... I knew it wasn't SAO but I wondered it this was Kirito felt the first time he logged into SAO. Well before it became a murder death game, that I still say with my vast experience in gaming could def survive 😎🍄
The biggest issue with Zenith is that they never finished the core game. The game is still missing key MMO features and some were added when it was too late.
The needs player economy, and together with it a better crafting system. The cooking crafting is amazing but sadly it was the only one at the start. It is nice now that we have gathering but it is still not enough. The game needs more professions and a nice crafting system for each one like the cooking. This is important so the players can craft items and sell to each other. Having a good crafting system together with player ecomy really adds to the longevity of a MMO.
Zenith is also missing more classes. Having 2 classes only at the start was a shame, and 3 is still not enough. Having different classes also adds to the longevity of an MMO. More classes = more stuff to do.
So yeah I would think that these were the 3 key features missing from the launch, which doomed the game:
- Crafting
-Player Economy
- More classes
very great comment. I agree. Did you still enjoy playing it a bit though?
@@VRelity It's been a good while since I played the last time, but every time I see a video or something about it, I get the desire to play it. I just hope the game is not completely abandoned by the devs. If they continue updating it, I will definitely play it again.
That's what happens when you give a bunch of inexperienced morons a large sum of investment capital. They HQ'ed in the most expensive place possible and dinked around instead of drawing out a solid roadmap and sticking to a strict runway. Then finished it off with a revenue model that wasn't ever sustainable being that VR is a extremely tiny demographic.
This is what I have learned:
If it's a MOBA (any sort of battle arena, not just 3 lanes 5v5) it must be F2P to get players pool.
If it's an MMO, it must be subscription based so devs have steady income to create a fair and creative environment.
yeah that is pretty much it
I’m still playing at least once a week, but I very rarely ever run into other players in the MMO side. It’s still fun, though I don’t know what I’m doing.
the game and its concept are awesome I just wish more players were there
I think the player base started declining after the dungeons were released and they were super buggy. Also, the devs openly opposed to players asking for fixes, microtransactions, etc. They would oppose players at every turn. The devs absolutely destroyed what could have been an amazing game. Initially, it was awesome, but the devs turned awful and were not open to what players were asking for. It was truly a tragic lesson for other future VR devs.
hopefully other vr mmo rpgs will learn from it.
Playing Zenith on launch was hands down the best experience I've had in vr. It genuinely felt like playing a real mmo, just in vr. They just weren't able to push out updates fast enough or significant enough to keep players interested. It had a good run, and will pave the way for pretty much all future vrmmos
i feel the same. What a time it was but sadly it came to an end
i agree with you 100% it was the same for me.
its so sad to know that most likely this is gonna get completely shut down very soon cuz of the huge losses and huge luck of player base
as someone who played way too many mmos and spent prob more then 10,000 hours of my life on them its so hurting to see that this is where we got
Tbh Ramen VR should take Zenith as a learning lesson and make another VRMMORPG from scratch and this time with monthly sub. at least with monthly sub they don't have to worry about funding and can instead focus on making a good game and push out meaningful DLCs .
I agree. Did you enjoy it at least though ?
@VRelity I played when Zenith just launched, it was an eye opening experience how wild VR MMORPG cab be as my previous vr mmo I tried was Orbus VR. Over all Zenith at launch was an ok mmo but it felt like alot is missing and not polished. Might try to hop in and try it out again soon
People like to act like subscription based MMOs are the devil, but the MMOs that have stood the test of time almost all run on subscriptions, free to play games have proven too volatile, and I firmly believe that the people who deny this, are either kids or adults who haven't yet realized they have grown up money and can afford it and don't need to convince their parents.
@@Kumomo92 give it a try there might be some less people now though
@@VRelity you need to be less obvious as a marketer. It pushes me away from the game.
It feels like you're blaming the playerbase for its downfall, saying they got bored without explaining why.
The problem with Zenith was the fact they rushed it in order to be *the* VRMMO. It simply did not have enough content to keep players invested. When you compare it to other mmo's on release, the systems, classes, professions, world size; you see just how much it is lacking. Even when you compare current day Zenith to release WoW it is still lacking. It feels like they made an MMO but never compared it to other MMO's; this game was never going to compete with WoW or FF14 or GuildWars, but those games should be a reference. They should of looked at them to see how much they should be releasing to keep people engaged.
Also side note, the Zenith mmo is dead, they said they are no longer working on the MMO.
I get your point and I agree they need more content but I guess in VR it was to difficult to pull of. And what do you mean it is dead. They are still putting out updates as we speak?
@@VRelity A response from the creator, a nice surprise.
Making a vr game in general is difficult, ive been trying, let alone an mmo. Thats all the more reason to have delayed it until it was good enough. Keep doing betas until you have everything that other mmo's have. You need a lot of content for an always online game. The crowdfunding was successful enough for them to do this.
As for the game being dead, while I will admit there is no video or anything saying it will no longer be worked on. There is a video of the ceo saying "we will work on it when we have the money to" at the same time you can find comments from him saying they havent been profitable for a year. You say its being updated as we speak, however I see no post or comment on any update to Zenith - The Last City, only for the dungeon crawler. (i am not in any discord though, so if it was posted there then idk)
@@6brutaka6 They are pretty active on discord i would recommend you check it out if you want. And i hope you enjoyed the video. stay awesome
@@VRelitynope. Problem is that they gave out irrelevant content when the main game isn't done. A suggestion would be more rare drops, more fantasy or team based classes to help support diversity. There is a difficulty within making games in VR, don't get me wrong on that but you can tell that they wasted resources on the most dumbest things. I've created games before and I know more about computers more than I do with creating games. I can tell you that this game got hella side tracked and for 10 mil they rushed the hell out of it. There is this game called hytale and they have been in the making for over 5 years. Now that is true work, especially for 10m. With or without that money I'll keep my word and work hard to get the good realistic graphics with performance based animations on an open world and then pure solid gold animation in a dungeon who's rendering distance is a decent sized radius. There's factors to this and clearly this team is inexperienced within the business field.
@@CharliesCharles i see what you mean well lets hope that future titles will be better
I'm completely new to VR and MMORPGs are my absolute favorite genre, the idea of going into towns thriving with players and meeting people to enjoy adventures together is cool. I recently got my VR and wanted to try and find mmorpgs and Zenith is the name I get every single time with barely any others so I'm honestly really sad to see its so dead. I'm not even sure if there's any alternatives seeing as every time I look into mmorpgs this is the one that comes up, are there even any to look forward to?
sadly nothing crazy at the moment so hopefully in the future.
Ascent Quest is in early production and should be out sometime next year. A long wait…I know.
@@SCOMPL will check it out too
I do hope those manhwa/manga inspirations come to life, or even a "Dive" capsule in the future of VR.
that would be so cool.
Keep an eye on Eldramoor. Many of the same Developers who built Zenith, and some of the Devs who built OrbusVR, are teaming up to build the next generation VRMMO that strives to not make the same mistakes older titles made.
that sounds interesting sadly i havent heard of it yet. Do you know if they are planned on releasing it soon?
Great video! It's a shame Zenith isn't on the standalone Quest anymore. Have you heard of the MMO Oathbreakers? It's a really cool take on the genre, blending open-world PvP like Sword Art Online, RuneScape's skilling system, and the intense combat style of Naruto.
I have not got a chance to play it myself but i will make sure to check it out. Did you like zenith or oathbreakers more?
You are incorrect. Guild Wars 2 MMO has been were you buy the base game and can play that as much as you want. No subscription. Now, to support ongoing operations, you have to pay for each major DLC pack as well as have an option of purchasing stuff from the Gem store. This game has been going on for 12 years now with this model, so it does work. Now, I did play Zenith from the beta through to the Celestial Throne update. My kid had it as well so we played online together on different headsets. For us, we left the game because they didn't have time for it anymore with school and other commitments, and playing in the world without them just didn't seem appealing, so I went back to Guild Wars 2 as my primary MMO. I've just lost interest in the whole VR thing in general.
Though 1 thing you missed out in regards with GW2 is that due that, their devs had a massive layoff as its not possible to keep the game running with a large team. Though GW2 was my 1st MMORPG but now i'm playing FFXIV which feels even more lively when compared to GW2 as devs are able to create great player experiences without worrying about money. I'm not saying its a must for MMORPG to go monthly sub route but those that do tend to last longer and put out more content.
I get your point but they also suffered some major layoffs because of that and most mmorpgs cannot sustain like that.
I played on release date for about a week before I stopped for a while, I couldn't remember why I stopped so I just picked it up again now for the first time in ages and I couldn't find a single person. Combat feels good and everything has so much potential but it's like the game is a ghost town. There's almost no incentive for me to play anymore
If you Look for Players the Discord is a Good Place still pretty Active 👀 otherwise i would be up for it 🤣
yeah that is true while the game is much more polished they definitely have less players
Its interesting they decided to shut down the project. Shows a lot of promise, and i would be supportive of an indie group trying to pioneer an entirely untapped market

Orbus: "am I a joke to you"
while orbus is definetly the first in scale and popularity it is nearly uncomparable don't you think?
I'd say Zenith took off and put the spotlight on the VRMMO scene. Orbus had its flaws sure, but spending hours on end with a guild was amazing.
@@jcbuk2us miss the good old days. Hopefully we can get something similar in the near future.
Yeah, zenith lasted 2 years before shutting down and orbus reborn was released in 2018 and preborn was even older than that. Orbus had 8 classes to pick from also had potion making, dragon flying, fishing and a market place for you to sale items. Zenith was lacking in most of everything i dont think they even had a trading system haha. Orbus wasnt perfect it had bugs and audio problems but it still is the first vrmmo. @@VRelity

i fgeel that we need a non vr class to make new player play with vr friends ect
what yall think?
yeah
You know, when Palmer Luckey creates a D&D VRMMORPG Hack n Slash game, people will get that game and play it. People will take jobs as NPC people like merchants, blacksmiths, inn keepers, etc.
People can really do fights and battle in esports arena tournaments.
People can stop hackers from creating a computer virus from death in a game and real life by continuing their adventures.
People will become students in esports academies, studding real-life cultures, VR technology history, and D&D history.
People will become D&D esports legends.

in around 6 to 10 years we might get something more like sao hopefully
i think we might get it sooner if VR still get the support it gets today
I was so hyped but even when it was released it was so bare boned and u rely on others to kill enemies like i was a healer to easily get into party and all people on server which isnt a lot jus sit n talk same spot like vr chat… the events no way u can win solo and the map was huge with bare bone missions and tough to kill and see ur leveling with a VR u dont play 6-8hrs a day its 1-2hrs tops…
Also they had no weapons or armor tiers like runescape and seemed like it would be for nothing.
Township tale did better mining, blacksmithing etc but people can steal ur bag and u cant keep ur stuff on another new server and i could never get in
it had some flaws for sure but I hope we will see some other big vr mmo rpgs soon don't you?

They pulled the plug recently lmao.
yeah exactly so i gues its done sadly
I do think they cant keep it going with just cosmetics but this video left out that warframe is still popular and still running and still making money so yes a mmo rpg can run for a very long time but what keeps its players coming back is free DLC and free packs for cosmetics every now and then but its very grindy so it takes a wile to earn what you want and premium currency that you do have to pay for BUT you can also get it through trading with other players for the premium currency with items that are rarer in the game so in conclusion you can have a very long lasting mmo rpg
yeah but like you mentioned warframe is a big game while zenith was one of the first VR mmo rpg which means it also has a lot less content then people were hoping for.
@@VRelityThese ideas of yours. You are always missing the point. Thinking like that isn't gonna get you anywhere. You just explained... Warframe a successful game vs Zenith an unsuccessful game. Who cares bro, a game defines itself. No excuses, look at the content inside the game. Does it match the description of the genre? Then rate the quality based on the genre. See how diverse the game is. It has to be a game of its own. "Wow this game is better than this" or "Amazing, I've seen nothing like this before" You also have to consider how long it takes to complete the game. An mmo has no limits. Continue with different worlds, different monsters, drop rates. Something worth your time. Not some futuristic rail grinding in vr 🥲 and man the designs are terrible in my opinion. Can't believe they did not follow through classic mmo rpg, instead made a playground or just small projects and then moved on to the next idea and never completed one project at a time. Adhd?
Zenith definitely dropped the ball when they released a MMO with no cosmetic store. We all know cosmetics keeps game companies a float.
Tell that to Larian and Warpfrog.
You don't need skins or battle passes to make games that sell, just make games that are WORTHWHILE to players.
As for MMOs, I think that monthly subs like WoW or FFXIV with expansion sized DLC (not like modern DLC, I mean true expansions) for a continuing story is the best idea (Think like ESO)
Now the big down fall for me are the quality of life things they talked about in there discord hasn’t been added
I hope some still get added

What do you play on?
I had high hopes. Combat just wasn’t fun. Couldn’t solo. Weapon and armor system was an extremely lazy and uninspired design. Flying around was cool tho.
Flying and exploring was definitely the best part of Zenith.
I get what you mean I hope we can see another better mmo rpg in the future.
Zenith has died. Theres only one version called Nexus and they pull the cables this week. The game goes only untill the initial sky screen and it stays there forever. The developers stop and are removing everything from the store. Meanwhile, we are chainned on those arena, escape rooms and the likes games. If VR continues like this, it will die in a year!
Wait can u not get the last city dlc anymore? Doesn’t the dlc allow for the sword class and stuff?
Is there anything a person with the quest one can do? Like are there refunds or something. That’s annoying having to pay 30 dollars for a game that isn’t even worth paying
sadly not that I know sorry

VR MMOS will never achieve anything until they reach the same community and metaverse style social world you see in VR chat and then combine it with the physics and combat of blade and sorcery until then they will never be "good"
i agree but to be able to make something like that you would need a massive budget don't you think?
@@VRelity you're not wrong about the budget but seriously take a look at the source material or heck any type of fictional VR MMO to ever exist SAO is of course the first one majority think of but there have been many you don't even need to go to the ideas origins in anime to see it the obvious Western example is ready player One what is the Oasis if not just future tech VR chat? take a look at any of those VR mmo inspirations and you'll very quickly realise that those fictional VR games in those stories are 10 times more complex then the ones we have to the point where they are no different to real reality except for digital pop-up boxes in fact my requirements that I have decreed for a VR MMO to succeed, VR chat style player community and blade and sorcery style combat are actually legitimately The bare Bones compared to what zenith and the others are actually trying to replicate like it is completely normal in those fictional VR MMO games to go to a town buy a house talk to any random npc in that town and the NPC talks back to you Chatgpt style you can walk into any building including your house and anyone else's house whether they be player or NPC you can pick up anything you could do anything you could do in real life no clipping through the object no awkward locomotion doing anything you would in real life in the game, the only difference between "the VR MMO" trope and the "go to another world" trope is technicality is what I'm talking about crazy and ridiculous stuff of fiction yeah but when people think VR MMO that is exactly what they think especially when they see something with zeniths art style the fact is we don't just not have the budget we don't have the technology because one thing that all of those VR MMO stories have is that those fake world's are literally liveable not just to the NPCs but to the players in them in order to fully achieve what they have been made out to be for decades, the "metaverse" needs to be in full swing and creating not a video game but a virtual world simulation that at least on the surface as complicated as our own world would have to be achievable all of this is completely impossible with current technology which is why for a more realistic goal they need to reach VR chat level community building and to start working on making VR actually feel like VR they need at least blade and sorcery level physics
Sooo... basically the oasis from ready player one. The book was better anyways

I stopped playing because the combat physics is so basic especially for melee, fr you can barely move and it will register as a full swing. I get it's supposed to be more MMO like but player intent should matter when dealing out damage. That and a lot of the weapons were very samey in the sense that they were just reskins with different colors and minor texture changes.
I see what you mean. Did you still enjoy playing the game at first though?
@@VRelity yeah it was fun for a bit, I played it a lot at launch but since I'm a solo player the game became really boring. I feel like if they tweaked the combat and made more unique looking equipment for each crafting material then it would probably be better off.
@@justicegamingincYeah, it's definitely possible for combat physics to be much more balanced. They just need to mess around with it or get someone better to take a look at it
@@CharliesCharles Yeak, at the least they could have like a swing speed check for melee and give enemies more of a reaction to being hit.
@@CharliesCharles All in all though I think the biggest problem with not just Zenith but other VR games is that they are being made to showcase what VR can do rather than being actual games.
Honestly, the F2P mode is a good move since it means a lot of people can try it. If they keep pushing forward with updates and growth of content and refining what they have, they WILL survive the initial drop off that always comes with the rush of people who first finish the current content available. WoW wasn't always majorly popular either! It takes time to build up the player base, and the tech is still so new... I've definitely been convinced to try it out on my new Q3 headset now its got a F2P option to try it out.
I hope so my friend. Did you enjoy playing zenith?

Most people sadly but ohwel hopefully something new and exciting is coming again. Thanks for staying a loyal fan man always appreciate seeing your comments.
How do I get the paid vesion
depends on the headset you use but normally just in the store or what do you mean?
I quite literally just played it for 20ish minutes as of writing on july 4th. And... man its dead as hell. When i first booted it up all the severs said the population was "low" all of them.. I booted it up and i didnt have fun with any of the classes. The blade class i really didn't like the combat. Mainly swining at enemies. It felt forced and i was required to swung a certain way. I really dont like those type of sword combat but lets say im allowed to do that. And ofc you can but wont be as effective. Anyway the ai combat is not fun. Like its easy to take them down then lets say blade and sorcery. The combat ai is simple but still felt some type of challenge in a sense. And the other classes? Not as fun. I used to run support mage and i was so confused were all my abilites were. Then finally after figuring out some of them were gone or i wss just lazy and couldnt find it i got off and deleted it. Not a single player i saw when i was flying around.
Sad to see since it had portental and my hopes were too high. So ive finally am going to delete it. Save myself a good 8-15ish gb of storage on my quest 2
like you said it got so much potential and honestly felt great when it was full of people but without it, it quickly shows what it lacks.
this is factually incorrect vid, zenith killed itself because devs made huge mistake , a lot of peoples got zenith then it was fun , and then dev noticed peoples lvl up to fast and pushed update to make low lvl mobs one shot you , i know at least 50 peoples more or less IRL who stopped playing this game after it, this was first and critical misale , a mistake that killed a game
I personally didnt experience that but I can imagine that this could be annoying. I hope you still enjoyed the video
I wanted to like this game but my whole experience with it wasn't that good. Main issue for me is terrible combat.

is this game "death"?
yeah the developers have officially announced they will stop it.
I will never pay a subscription to play a game because it normally is better off to save the money to get other games
I get that
The game looks like a kitchen sink approach, with a lack of creative direction.
It has no visual cohesion. Some areas look Futuristic, while other areas look medieval fantasy.
It just completely breaks immersion for me, which is why while I got the game (humble bundle) I simply couldn't be bothered to install it.
Is this really a surprise? It runs at 10-15 fps much of the time. And the mechanics are terrible
what vr headset are you using?
The game is a bit boring. Once the novelty of an open vr game fizzles out so does the fun. Combat was too simple. Gear for the characters was uninspired. Had no idea what to do because the quests were not presented properly( spent hours on one quest in the forest, couldn't figure out how to complete). And don't get me started on cooking. If cooking one dish takes longer then a boss fight, there's a problem. At least character movement was fun
the main part of the game what made it so fun was the people but sadly the player count is pretty much gone
The problem is that the “sweaty fat nerd” stereotype is real for MMORPGs.
and no normal gamer is going to wear a VR headset and move around from hours on end playing an MMORPG. It’s too taxing on regular people these sweaty unhealthy nerds for sure aren’t going to do it.
that genre is ran buy a specific breed of gamers who aren’t able/willing to tax themselves in that way. It’s too physical.
The only chance VRMMORPGs have is once the VR becomes more commercialized and standalone-ish for the youth. And then companies willl invest
I try to understand your point but I think there might also be some other reason it didnt do great. anyways did you enjoy playing it?
I think RUclipsrs just pick a game to say it's falling off for the sake of making a video. because as of right now, it's on steam's popular tab when you look up VR games in the store.
I wish I could agree but the developers have officially announced that they are shutting down the game because of the low player count
DMMO-RPG
what does the D stand for?
What happened is people have stupidly low attention spans which can ruin any good game.
yeah
Yup everyone rushes to get to the end and then complains that there isn't enough content
