- Sword Art Online is FINALLY here with the fan-recreation in VRChat: Project Aincrad (unaffiliated). Their group, Argus, is doing the work of an indie game studio for free, just out of love of experiencing the game. The anime takes place in 2022, so it’s fitting that although we don’t have “full-dive” yet… you can experience it on PCVR or Quest! :D Virtual Reality is AWESOME.

I remember checking out Project Aincrad once before, and I just fell in love with it. I know there wasn’t much but my first thought after playing a few minutes is “I can’t wait for this to be further along in progress. I know it will take time, but I can wait because I know the more time they take the better it will be”
@Pelinal Whitestrake this is a fan made mod basically so it's getting through some technical challenges in the engine or platform more than the duke nukem forever hell loop
@Pelinal Whitestrake you are right, time spent doesn’t always relate to quality. But when you have a team as dedicated as them, who have a passion for what they are making, the more time you give them the more time they have to increase the quality. It is also a fan game so there isn’t too much to worry about with disagreements and management. If it takes a long time to get a simple issue done then yes there is some bad management or something, but if it takes a long time for a lot of things that is better. I will provide 2 game examples, 1 bad and 1 good. Railroads Online, they had a bug that broke multiplayer servers after a certain number of trees were cut down, and it affected a lot of people. Their response, wait a few months then fix it (bad management and bad use of time when it was an easy fix). Next example, Dyson Sphere Program. They just delayed their next major update from this year to some time next year, the combat update, so they can make it better and higher quality for their community (Good example). What determines if it is a bad use of time is what they are working on, and how easy what they are working on is. If an easy fix takes forever that is bad, but if a major update takes forever then they are making it the best they can.

I remember when I first entered Aincrad when it only begun, I thought to myself: "It might go two ways. Either it'll get abandoned and stay completely unfinished or it will be the best VR MMO that ever existed". Seeing how it goes now, I'm glad that developers chose to pick second way

I've been waiting for 3 years for something like that to exist
you're 12? also, as far as getting full dive that's probably 40+ years away considering how little we understand avout the brain and how hard it would be to recreate the nerve gear (wireless communication with the brain). if you wanted it with possible major health complications, tens of thousands of dollars of surgeries and visibile metal ports on your body to plug cords into, and a relatively high chance of being paralyzed, you could probably join a trial run in 25-30 years 💪💪 get that bread so you can afford it when it happens
@@blygreene9807 PCs and phones were a rare thing to have mere 20 years or so ago. Now we develop and utilise AIs (even though they are not really that) as tools, progress Will be much further than that in 40 years, in my somewhat ignorant opinion
@@naganwhat8364 You're absolutely right that technology has an exponential curve, but in my opinion it's straight up just the lack of information we have on how the brain works coupled with how little progress we've made in the last 20 years on understanding the brain plus all the hoops a company would have to jump through. Like for human trials involving brain surgery it'd probably be 6 months to a year of just legal work before they could even start. Any complications at all would set them back super far in funding from public backlash too so it'd have to be a company with a huge backer funding them plus a public release would probably only happen after like 10 years of trials on the human tester to make sure it's not going to cause long-term brain damage or anything like that. Like if we're just straight talking our best team of scientists worldwide working on it with no legal or funding requirements we could probably get it out and semi-safe in 10-15 years but they have better things to spend their time looking into so idk I just think it's pretty far off sorry I started rambling a bit

Well, I think the problem would rather be all the legal work. Before the necessary research could even start, you'd need to have enough resources (support of the public, funding, researchers, facilities, interested parties and etc...).
And even then, even if we knew enough about the brain at some point, there's still the ethical debate. Technology that could *"connect"* to your brain/ *disable or DIVERT* signals that the brain sends to the body?
Before they'd even think about using this for the gaming industry, and getting all the work to legalise a said system like that for public/common use done (with all the effort and time that alone would take aside) they would probably much rather use it primarily in the medical sector alone.
What I'm saying is not it isn't possible, it's just that it is highly unlikely, even if we were very close to making it a reality, to actually become a thing due to ethical and legal issues. And even if these were solved as well, it'd probably be unaffordable for most people, considering its' novelty.
I know full dive is super unrealistic but I really hope it’ll exist some day soon. Sao is not only what got me interest in vr but what got me into anime. There’s no doubt full dive would completely change the world as we know it

Not really unrealistic. The way it was done in the anime, sure, somewhat exaggerated. But the concept can be achieved with more research into the tech. Some of the tech exists now, but not for consumer vr hardware. Mostly in testing for medical hardware. But if predictions are true, in the next 20 years, we may see something such as full dive vr. Who knows how itll actually be. But itll be 100% worth it if it comes even 60% close to nervegear in the anime.
Sao was my first anime since I was into video games back then, and inspired me to try out VR
Its possible considering they say its also possible in the far far future to do space hyperjump. But the full dive vr could be possible in our generation or if not then the next one
@Can’t think of a good channel name. I'd have to see it to believe it and even then I'd have doubts. Dont get me wrong, I'd absolutely love to have full dive, I'd sell a limb for it. But, I just dont think we are close enough to have what the real full dive is supposed to be.

You should check out BONELAB, I think that one truly highlights VR true potential. Ive seen video covering about it, its a stand alone

Vrchat kinda seems like the seed in sao tbh. people were stuck in it for a year or so (due to covid) and now there are tons of different worlds you can explore, from shooters to nature walks.
I love the Idea of Sword Art Online being an ACTUAL Thing in VR, especially In VRChat! 😲

I really want to thank you making this video, ever since you made this I've been on project Aincrad almost every day. I got to join a guild (BLADES OF NEZERACK) and I got to go to a community event, even thought I lost I was able to meet Freaky The Man there. This game has made a huge impact on my life.
I've played on that world and it really makes you feel like you are in sword art online! 10/10

What kind of vr setup do I need to play?
Thanks for bringing this up! Currently, I do not own a VR headset, but due to this project, I am now thinking of getting one, just so I could get to experience this. SAO was always such a fun concept of a video game, that I wish an actual studio would make it, but this.... this is something beyond my imagination (I mean, people out of love/passion started to make this.. like wow!). Amazing video. Subbed :)

I have high hopes for this. My bro inadvertently got me into SAO by nitpicking it so much, I wanted to see what he was complaining about and I loved it.
Today I found this in VR chat. They are still working on it, but needless to say I nerded out so hard. This is such an awesome concept! I am so excited to see where they go with it.

Thats so cool that they named themselves Argus (like the developer of SAO in the anime). SAO as an anime is flawed but it might be one of the reasons why I love it. Imagine if this actually got the blessing of Reki Kawahara (the writer of SAO) and got support from A-1 Pictures too. Really looking forward to the future of this project.

I've been playing Aincrad for 9 months now and it just makes me happy that this will bring this project more out there and more people will discover it which is really exciting! I can't wait to see how this will effect the overall popularity and knowledge of this project's existence.
As someone who always loved crafting or professions in RPG's SAO has a super cool system that would be fun to get into if and when it's implemented.

During a test from the Creator of this I got to see the original BETA of the Project.
While it wasn't as insane as it currently is now, It was still an amazing show of what VRChat could actually do. The Map wasn't fully made yet but and it was mostly a test of saving positions after leaving using the Menu.
It's still in the Game now but it would basically alter your avatar for a moment and then make it so you could load Data in a whole different Area. Of course I'm pretty sure any Data I actually have on the world actually broke after trying the newer versions since the map kinda just had a couple Hills and the most basic build of the middle city.
It's definitely come far though and I can't wait to see what else they do with it.
If a full dive SAO game ever gets created in my lifetime, I'll be stuck in the game by choice

About 10 years ago before VR really was a thing some friends and i were playing DayZ talking about VR after finishing season 1 of SAO and the possibilities of VR and how everything that happened in SAO might happen one day in VR and now years later we get improved VR equipment and even headimplants are being talked about and actively develpoed just a few weeks ago some of the same friends from back then and i talked about the very topic..we all had the same sentence in mind .. AND THUS IT BEGINS
There's another game in vrchat called Fate of the Irrbloss.
it's a space ship crew management game
and shows that if more and more games like this are made in vrchat,
it can turn vrchat from a virtual reality social media/cosplay event,
into an actual gaming platform.
Again, Fate of the Irrbloss could be it's own standalone vr game, but takes place inside VRChat.

Wow, I remember about 4-5 yrs ago one of the vrchat guys showing my group this map when it was still a one man project. Crazy to see how far it's come.

Sao was one of my most favorite animes, so to see that someone would recreate it made me so interested.
I swear I've ran into the world before, it was in testing and it only had like 3 swords back then and just the spawn area, cool to see this video.
I like how in the game almost everyone is scared to be trapped and would do anything to get out but in reality most people would do anything to get stuck in a virtual world.
I've been watching them do this since last year before the 1.5 update. It's been crazy to watch people do pvp, make guilds and stuff just around all this.
Agreed, I checked out this world as soon as I saw it. You really couldn't do much besides enter the world and look around the town of beginnings, but the sheer fact that it saves your progress independently and you can build from there is impressive. You can't really fight the boars outside yet, but you can open your menu, it's impressively designed but most features are currently nonfunctional. You are forced to change your avatar into a default newbie design, which makes me wonder about future customizable prospects, or if that would be feasible - but the design itself is amazing and I want to see more.

the sky change at day and night is breath taking
Imagine having a attack system based on how fast you swing. A VR sword.
the pvp system doesn't let you just swing over and over like before, theres a forced delay between attacks

@@dimsum_7849 not really, its actually a really fun system and works out much better than the previous one where "fights" could run on for hours on end. the delay only stops attacks from dealing damage for a short period of time so that the fights dont end in like 10 seconds, so its a good feature in my opinion

@@Aaa-vp6ugno it actually is, realistically a sword is heavy especially for someone like you (I assume you don’t workout) a couple of swings in and youl already be wanting to stabilise yourself or take a breath.
I think it'd be really cool if blacksmithing was added as a "bonus feature". It wasn't explored much in the show apart from "oh yeah I made this and it took some rare ass materials" but there's a whole bunch of cool stuff that wasn't explored but exist that would be really cool as flavor stuff (like companions)

No, instead you die if you stay in VRc for too long without sleeping and eating.
This combined with the headset that kills you when you die in game, for ultimate accuracy
Honestly, I want a nice RPG in VRChat. Building a home, doing jobs, etc etc. I need to get back in my headset and scan around again

The twin finger swipe is such an ergonomic and satisfying motion I have to wonder why it's not used everywhere as a universal menu summon. Back when SAO Launcher was proper supported on Android, it very nearly entirely replaced the home screen for daily use
Having a convenient menu with instant access to the dialer, calculator, contact beaming, a self-chosen selection of apps, GPS access in case I get myself a little turned around, music controls, and more all at once was amazing. And it really made my phone feel like a piece of future tech too, not just a flat PC.

It's 10 years since SAO Aincrad Arc to SAO Alicization Arc... Like I wanted to watch it again... Since they making a inspired game from the anime series, it's amazing that they worked hard to make this game (or I say they make this game and imported to VRChat)... It's awesome and I love it...

I always wondered how they were going to add all 100 floors. The World seed concept makes way more sense and makes it seem very plausible. It's a big project, but I think if anyone can do it, it's them.
I went in once, and it's amazing what they have so far. No one should ever be mad at them at all, they are doing this out of love and they have done an amazing job, better than most ganes made by official developers. It's insane how good the world looks

This is amazing, honestly it might be hard but there should be a group dedicated to making realistic anime worlds where that laws of the show apply to the world. It’s honestly amazing to see how far vr and the community has come since 2016 when vr was first introduced (sorry if I’m wrong on the date of when vr came out or at least gained popularity)
2016 is definitely when it started gaining more popularity with consumers. But, if you include the Oculus Rift Development Kit 1, it goes all the way back to like 2014. It can go even further if we stray from consumer headsets
i know of another group that is planning to make a SAO inspired game that WILL become a Standalone game. after they create a vrchat example mock up. they are going straight to making a game completely separate to VRChat and far away from Udon programming language.
i think they were called "Etherial Soul". they have a discord and patreon im pretty sure

this is God damn man that made an actual freaking nerve gift I don't mean they actually connects to your nerves what I mean is that this thing literally kills you if you die in game it's I think it has a perfect explosives on top of it that blows up your freaking head if you die IN GAME

I've always been a vr fan as a kid and every new vr tech that comes out continues to surprise me, i've owned a quest 2 for 6 months and what i'm most excited for is fulldive vr hopefully we'll reach that level in a couple of years
Dang, it’s getting harder to not immediately spend any money I get on getting a vr headset
I have a VR headset and I really like using it, except... I don't really have the space to use it. If I remove my bed from my room then its possible, but asking that every time I want to play VR is a bit too much. It's a bit sad. Still, I'm very happy that VR are getting its own enthusiastic community. I hope it continues to grow, expand, and explore all the wonderful possibilities VR represents.
wait a few more years for omnidirectional treadmills to become cheaper and more accessible to the public and you will no longer have that problem.

I’m glad to see there’s more to this game I originally played it I think a year or two ago and all you could do was walk around a little and open the UI but if you’ve gotten in water you would pretty much be stuck. I’m really happy to see that they’re actually doing more stuff for this game and I hope in the future it all works out.
Yeah, it all takes time to be done and so far they made a really good work inside the limits of VRChat.
Imagine this getting ported to bonelabs.
The physics system would be awesome wor actual fighting and interactions.
Biggest worry for this world is VRChat eventually shutting down and them losing a lot. While I don't think VRChat is shutting down anytime soon I believe if the developers of VRChat continue making bad decisions in the future its going to really affect a lot of VRChat creators in the long run which I am hoping doesn't become an issue but its hard to tell. Other than that it looks amazing and props to the developers that are working on this because its a lot of work and I hope they get to continue working on it.

oh yeah i remember going to this world like what feels like several months if not a year ago, and it was so rudimentary i couldnt even find any AI to fight or anything to do, just ran tf around for like 45 minutes.
