Not if you're playing "The Forest" and doze off waiting for daylight, and a canible sneaks up behind you and screams. Never again.
I mean it would be kind of peaceful using cheats if that is even in the vr version, I would put on godmode so I don’t need to eat and I would disable cannibals.
Lmao
Don't do it in vr too

Theres a forest vr whaaat. Mind blown
I can't wait for someone to start pulling the 'isekai prank' to where you put a VR headset onto someone who is fast asleep.
...Quite the expensive prank but ok.
Now, what about the meta "welcome to the metaverse" prank of using a virtual version of the actual sleeper's house?
The only way that’s a prank is when they realize they aren’t actually isekaid

I sleep in vrchat almost every day, I do it cause it's boring and lonely irl. I don't want to leave my friends and leave vr when it gets late. I love chilling in front of a mirror talking/listening to my friends talk until i fall asleep and then if i have a bad dream or wake up their still there and I'm not alone ^^.
this sounds really sad without context
That just sounds like an addiction.
@@daiyas_3596 Yeah, and it can be way more sad than just "life is boring". I found serious cases of isolation, people crying just of surprise that someone lend an ear to them before they sleep. People are as connected to the whole world as they are lonely nowdays...
@@redvelvet5374 it’s not it’s a coping thing
that’s pretty sad. You should socialize with people in real life.
I love sleeping in VR, there’s so many places you can sleep in, like a big mountain without feeling cold. My favourite thing has to be creating a little house in Minecraft with big windows, putting on some pleasant shaders, some rain and just enjoy it while my mind drifts away. It’s really helped me through times where I had trouble sleeping and has helped me sleep better.
I'll have to try that

Something you didn't mention is that some people sleep in VR in order to treat sleep paralysis. @FiftyVR you know online relationships are a thing lol
@FiftyVR What a boring viewpoint. People have been meeting each other online for decades - including international couples who due to logistics can't meet for years - this isn't some kind of new fad. There are literally couples who have been married and had kids because they met online. Hell, PHIA herself just recently met her boyfriend for the first time in real life, she met him on VR Chat.

@@rainbowscarface2496 ..but you dont have a headset-
Another potential health concern to note when sleeping in VR is that a headset attached to your face (especially an Index) will make you produce sweat and soak into/get on the faceplate. It can give you some pretty bad skin issues or acne if not cleaned often or if you have a tendency to sweat when you sleep.
Something that can help with that is getting a silicone or cloth covering instead of the crappy foam ones that are included, at least with the quest 2
@@faolan73 totally, leather works well and is easy to clean too

I’ve done it a lot, it’s actually easier for me to fall asleep in VRC then in irl. I have no clue why
If I try to sleep outside vr I can't fall asleep. Someone needs to be researching why and start developing a headset specifically for sleeping, it could help people

im a stomach/side sleeper lol no way I could fall asleep in VR
@@legorockstar2000 I fell asleep in VR just yesterday (I didn't really intend to) and it was on my side. I have a headset without built-in audio so I was using small earphones, combined with some soft cushions on my couch I found sleeping on my side not too uncomfortable. Although I didn't sleep for that long, waking up next and having a friend in the virtual room with me made me feel really comforted.
I think about 2,000 of my hours on vrchat is sleeping xD. I've found every way possible to make it comfortable and healthy, its a nightly routine of mine and sharing the presence with someone else is amazing. Depending on how tired I am, I'll sleep in FBT or without. I go as far as unscrewing one side of my index's headphones to comfortably lay with my head on its side. Personally here I sleep so much better in VR apposed to outside of it, I used to struggle with sleeping so often and VR had been the biggest cure I've found, better than medicine.
This is really interesting to me as someone who knows sod all about VR. What kind of scenes/setting do you sleep in? I'm guessing people pick cosy settings like in front of the fireplace in a cabin in the forest, or in a nice park under the stars or something?
Its not healthy at all
@@H313NA Last night I slept in a world that's just a really open grass field and night sky. About the subjects the video missed...Desktop users! Sleeping in VRc isn't a VR-only experience. In fact, a lot of sleepers call it a night when their trackers run out of battery, then just switch to desktop mode. No risk of tangled cord, no more fancy fullbody and dancing, just chill and talk before sleep. Usually in front of a mirror, a movie or watching a livestream together.
You can totally sleep while your computer is running, listening to your friends just like some listen to ASMR.
As for the subject of sleeping alone, that was a nice perspective. "Bedroom under the ocean, with sound of sealife and their shadow over you while they swim outside" is one of my favourite ambiance. Looking at the night sky or any fantastical variation (aurora borealis, perpetual shooting stars, multiple moons and space birds, etc) are a close second.
Personally, I don't sleep alone with VRc on, unless I find a cozy spot while exploring random worlds. A mystical cave, a Nanachi village, someone's garage whith a NPC playing guitar? Yeah, I fell asleep in such places...Only to be joined by friends wondering what the freak I was doing lost in there, then for them to stay and sleep as well or invite me to their worlds. xD
Now, social sleeping isn't just about wanting to have sleepovers with friends.
Some people have litteral phobia of sleeping in complete silence, while others search for people to hear their story so they can unwind from whatever weight them down. There is a very profound sense of loneliness (if not plain isolation) that hurt people on a daily basis. Sometimes, just answering "sure, you can sleep beside me" and lending an ear really help people, even if you're just here to relax and not actually to sleep yourself.
We are lucky to have technology, even if it was just a "desktop only" game.
People can join eachothers and work on their social anxiety or fight such phobias you were previously forced to endure alone. Sleeping in VR, or rather in VRc no matter your game mode...If it works for you, it is still better than chronic nightmares, right? Can't really say it cures insomnia, considering the number of people who forget what time it is till almost morning but eh; Some relaxed sleep is better than no sleep or panic attacks!
Most of the time I head to dedicated sleep worlds using my "little maid" avatar.
Managing the pillows people throw out of bounds (or on other's face to troll them with a surprize "blackout"), putting a nice "piano and rain mix" on the media player and shuting down any troll video, lending an ear to who seems to need it; That what's I used to do on a daily basis at one point. Now less, because either friends invite me and because I'm not that often on VRc to begin with, but I still like to randomly go take care of sleep spaces.
If you're curious about sleeping in VRc, even as a desktop user, do that. Become a little helper, engage conversation in a respectful manner with people who look like they're just there to chill, and you'll learn a lot from public worlds. Just be aware that like in any public instances, scary things happens. In fact, sleepers are easy targets, when you think of it.
The problem of trolls playing super loud noises, putting questionable content on the media players or straight up playing animations that can cause epilepsy is a huge problem. And since everyone's sleeping, there's usually not enough active players to vote/kick.
If you ever sleep in public instances:
-Turn brightness down to minimise the impact of malicious animations
-Turn the sound down (or off) when you feel yourself drifting into dream land
-Whatever happens, don't panic!
And at first try to ignore the trolls if you notice them. (but discretly kick them if the vote is on)
If nobody seems annoyed they'll get bored and are more likely to jump to another instance than if anyone took the bait.
Now if you excuse me, it's already past 1am. I have some sheeps to cound and some Zs to catch. ;)
Thanks for protecting the vulnerable sleeping ones ^^
for Quest Users: you can turn orange light on in the settings.
@Marauder Why?
What does that do
@@Lala-sz2dd it limits blue light, which can effect how you sleep, if you can sleep at all with it

My personal experience with VRChat sleeping. I never really slept in VR as it was never comfortable for me. However, for whatever reasons being in VRChat makes me sleepy or drowsy. I feel it's a combination of things as it's visual and audio therapy to calm one's mind. The addition of being around friends does help. There are also theories that most VR headsets when worn applies pressure on pressure points around that head that induces sleepiness.

The one time ive ever fallen asleep in vr was something i'll never forge4t. It was 4 am and I couldnt sleep, so I figured id try it out. I joined a world, explored a little, then crashed on a couch. So, we sat on the couch and drifted off, talking about things we like and listening to the people in the background :]
I've slept in VR many times and here's some tips i usually use:
Lower brightness and wear blue light blocking glasses,
Sit down and use something to prop you up like a wall,
If you want sound use in-ear headphones rather than on-ear or over-ear to lower damage if you avoided the last one or still move alot,
Lower volume and/or mute a few people,
If you sleeping in vr cause of a long distance lover than use a bodypillow/pillow,
Hope this helps someone!
There is an option in SteamVR to turn off controllers turning off automatically, also I wanted to add my own bit of sleep experience and reasoning, sometimes I use sleeping in VR as a way to manage my sleep because I don't tend to sleep for longer than 2-4 hours, this is helpful in cases where i stay up until like 5 am and I don't want to end up waking up at 4pm.
Ok I actually went and tried this on my quest 2, just two days after I watched this video. This idea of sleeping in vr kept nagging and nagging at me, my initial thoughts were ok this is a bit extreme. Now, I can say without a doubt I was wrong, sleeping in VR is damn peaceful. Found a world with a campfire and a tent with a beautiful night sky, and the experience was great. The only thing I think I'll change for my setup is using the orginal cloth straps my quest 2 came with.
I have the Oculus rift cv1 and if I want to sleep, I only use the Steam VR version of VrChat, because if VRChat crashes, I dont want to get blinded by the white light of the Oculus start menu.
I wish Oculus make an darkmode for PC Oculus useres 😅
You know, the more I'm watching these interview vr videos, the more I see real potential for a vr world. Ignoring what some common tv/anime tropes use, vr has a lot more uses then I think anyone could ever truly realize.
I've had a quest 2 for a few months but never got into VRChat until I stumbled on your videos. You're the best!

A lot of it reminds me of wearing headphones and listening to a role play or calling a loved one to chat with/sleep together over the phone. I imagine the VR version is more immersive, after all, as mentioned, waking up is a very different experience for instance, but the actual sleep (eyes closed, etc) seems pretty similar anyway.
Since the main discomforts from this mostly came from the feeling of wearing the headset (heat, the weight, etc.), it'll be interesting to see how this type of experience changes as VR sets evolve into more compact forms such as glasses or contact lenses.
I’m scared to watch this, cuz I sleep in vr every other day lol

I think its done because, well, we're in a pandemic. Even with quarantine sorta over, its hard to see friends and make new ones. So people turn to vr chat. They can hang out with friends and have virtual sleepovers. It just goes back to social sleeping.
for people wondering what the song is during phia's first talk, its "A Wish - Super Mario Galaxy"

I'll tell ya. Getting blackout and waking up in the virtual realm the next morning really has to be the most jarring and disorienting things you can experience
Quest 2 would be super ideal for this. Lightweight, unobtrusive charging cable, and it's got an orange light mode!
Could you lay on the side of the link cable do, or would it protrude too much 🤔
MXarcx i’d strongly recommend picking up a magnetic adapter. They help reduce the profile and serve as a nice safety in-case you might be about to pull on your pc.
Im getting one soon and ive always dreamed of sleeping in vr chat!!
I've always thought of the idea of screens damaging your eyes be a little bit unrealistic, how do you see? by using the light there is literally ALWAYS light going into your eyes unless you are using extremely bright lights you should be ok. not very scientific I know but its always something I've thought about.
Well, it’s proven to be bad for the eyesight of kids and teens. Your eyeballs and the muscles attached to them are still growing when you’re young. Your eyes adjust to the distance they need to look at. So if you look at monitors or even books for too long, too often, your muscles will make the short-sighted part of your muscles better and the long-sighted muscles weaker. You’ll be good as long as you’re limiting your screen time. I didn’t do that though, I have very bad eye-sight.
@@soun9822 Yeah wasn't thinking about the impact on younger people, I guess thats one reason to be happy that my parents limited my screen time.
I mean it's not just light but blue light, strapped to your face. Blue light inhibits melatonin production and can cause less restful sleep or worse. It's why people generally recommend putting down your phone about an hour (at least) before going to sleep.
@@melancholyentertainment Yeah I understand what you're saying but the main point I was making was not about sleep it was about screens causing eye damage.
When I first saw people sleeping in VRC I felt really weird about it. Your video really helped work though those feelings and see the positivity in it. Thanks :)
Best way to sleep in vr is when youre mega tired and also dont wanna leave the people/person you were hanging with. Best sleep ever aside from it being too tight on my head, idk how to loosen it.
First time I slept in vr was by accident. It was 4am local time and I was in The Black Cat. I was sitting infront of a mirror in the lap of my american friend, I fell asleep while she was singing. When I woke up it was the most confusing thing being in a public world with randoms around me. If you are thinking of trying to sleep in vr do it in a friends only instance to avoid the screaming 12 year olds.
With the bigscreen beyond being a thing now, I must say it’s very easy to sleep in vr now. It’s completely black when I’m in completely black room so it’s easier to sleep.
I sleep in vr almost everyday to me it’s comfortable and it makes it less lonely :)
This was interesting. I’ve fallen asleep many times listening to Twitch streams but never in VR. Maybe someday I’ll try it but I love sleeping on my stomach and sleeping on my back is super uncomfortable to me.
I've fallen asleep in VR once and I gotta say it was very comfortable because it was in an Oculus Quest 2. Much smaller, lighter, no cable and no ear cups,. I couldn't imagine trying to sleep in my Index. That thing is giant haha.
Ive fallen asleep wearing a Quest 1 and the PSVR (not at the same time of course lol)... maybe with the oculus go too, not sure.
would the quest 2 ever overheat if you fell asleep in it?

@@lunaboom8503 I'm guessing it should be ok as long as you don't cover the vents. I've never intentionally fell asleep in VR tbh
I love sleeping in vr even tho i dont do it as much. But it really helps me when i haven't been able to sleep well for a while becaue there was too much stuff going on in my life and in my head and just "handing it over to VR" lets me get some sound sleep and i feel very rested when I wake up even if it wasn't a full nights sleep. It's a great way to shut your mind up when its sleep time.
i sleep in vr very often, the deluxe audio strap makes it all possible as it feels like it was made for sleep. Theres something special about crashing in a world like it was your own home and being in large cuddles, it gets very natural very quick. worst side effect is minor breakouts on my forehead which and otc products handles well
Love sleeping in vr, my dad thinks I am a moron but I don't care, it makes me more relaxed for the next day! Also use headphones if you can, with headphones, I am able to lucid dream, literally some of the craziet experiences I have ever had. I seen a door in one of my dreams and I walked towards it, and I turned the handle and the door slowly opened. I saw beautiful forest and could still hear my 432 hz music playing which made it even better. It was cool hearing other people's experiences!
I was wondering how long it'd take for you to bring up the blue light issue, because that's what worrys me the most with the concept of sleeping in VR
I know Oculus Quest 2 has a night/orange light mode, noticed it the other week, so it might be good theoretically for people considering it
this is what it is to be a VR user. this transcends the medium at this point. you are going from just using vr a lot to really living in it, and just going into the world because you have some ties to it. this is like a glimpse into what the internet would be like if google and facebook never got into power, and everything was still decentralized.
ovr advanced settings also lets you filter out blue in the steam settings. When sleeping I always turn blue off all the way or almost all the way (also getting something like Phillips hue and turning it to red only before getting in vr helps in case you wake up in the middle of the night and decide to throw off you headset you don't get flashbanged.
I'm excited to try this in my half-dive headset when it eventually comes. I've always lived that feeling of sleeping surrounded by friends, so it could be really nice when I'm home alone.
The half-dive got canceled 😞
What is a half dive
This is like when people used to put their laptops next to them and sleep together on Skype, but to the extreme!
I'm getting used to sleep in VRChat recently and I gotta say, it helps a lot. I suffer insomnia (it's 6 am rn) and when I try to sleep on VRChat it's almost instant. I love to cuddle next to a friend as I don't feel lonely aswell. Idk how but you can't really feel the VR headset on your head past a certain point, and the sensation of waking up in a different world is... amazing.
I love to do it.
i’ve only slept one time in VR and i woke up vERY sweaty and uncomfortable. idk if anyone else has had this happen to them but sweating through my shirt kind of ruined the experience for me. I cant find anyone else talking about this on the internet so if this has happened to you please say so down in the replies :
It's only happened to me when my room is warm, or there is light in my room. When I fall asleep in bright areas I always wake up sweaty.
@@rainbowscarface2496 quest tracking literally requires you to have the room lit up 🧍♀️
@@koomsik2578 Not really u can get a IR light for playing in the dark. You can already get some for just 20bucks which is hella cheap.
I have narcolepsy, insomnia, thyroid energy issues, blood pressure issues, sleep apnea, frequent nightmares, anxiety, paranoia, and fear of the dark. I NEVER sleep well, even though I'm always doing everything I can to solve these issues, with therapy, medication, lifestyle and comfort experiments, etc. Nothing is ever good enough to make me feel well rested. So this, I really want to try it. Maybe this is the breakthrough I need. I don't really like VRchat that much, but probably even just my home screen will be relaxing enough.
I live for the Mario Galaxy music
Same!!!!
I love hanging out and falling asleep while cuddling in VRC. I find it a lot easier to fall asleep and alot more comfortable because of phantom touch. Unfortunately I can't do it as much as I would like to because everytime my mom has found out I fell asleep in VR she gets incredibly pissed. I was grounded once for doing it as well.
it's so much easier to sleep with a quest 2. no wires, no speakers behind your ears and the headstrap is just an elastic band.
you probably can't wake up to a virtual world with that battery life though.
I wonder if the link cable could handle laying on it and if it would be comfortable. Then at least there would be no worry about runtime.
@@MXarcx I have a knock off and it works just fine for sleeping but sadly it only makes the quest last 4 hours, compared to the 2 it gets without, I wonder if an official cable would make it last longer?
I'm used to cuddles and sleep in public words. i recommand it!
SLEEP IS SLEEP!!! Sleep in vr, or don’t. It’s a preference.
Yes, some sleep is better than no sleep!
I don't sleep in VR because it definitely takes time to get used to (I've tried) and I need to be focused at work.
Though, when coming back from work, I rest or nap in randoms Rest & Sleep world and play music or a video.
There are times when there are some very annoying, shouting people, and if they really seem to understand that people are sleeping and that's the reason why they're shouting, i block them. I don't need anyone like that near me.
I also basically have to sleep in public worlds for social sleeping cause well, I don't have a lot of friends in VR and even less friends that sleep in VR, wish I had that.
Those random strangers that come and head pat and are up for cuddles is also very nice~
I been sleeping in vrchat for 361 days soon 1 year. I really enjoy it. I sleep in index with fbt but mostly I sleep in quest and then stream it to my pc.
14:00 I have always slept on my tummy and being unable to do so means I basically get zero sleep whatsoever.
I actually spent a lot of time trying to train myself to sleep on my back, and got there just about! But my partner doesn't like me doing that so I basically am back to only on my back now.
Never been in a position where I wanted to sleep in VR. I think I'd feel bad if I didn't come to bed to be with my partner but by the same token, some nights I don't even go to the same bed as her when I'm done in VR. I go to the spare bunk bed so I don't wake her up.
So I feasibly could, but my VR setup is also in a room with a cold hard tile on cement floor, with no comfy stuff around. So it would be impractical.
That electric bill tho I’d guess after ur doing it a lot
as a person that sleeps i vr, i find being in a custom made world that i have full controle of make me feel more at ease
I used to fall asleep with my Oculus Go in a fishing sim that had strangely realistic environments so that I could sleep on a deck and stare at the sea while it rained. Was so peaceful.
I have since stopped as I like being able to see.
It took me a month after I stopped to stop reaching to take the headset off my face when I woke up, it was the most disorienting feeling XD
Hi Phia, typing this in vrchat :) I sleep in vr every night and i had the trackers turning off issue at first. In vr steam settings under Startup / Shutdown ' Turn off controllers ' > Never
This help to get ready for my first time sleep in VRchat around in January 2023
but is it okay to cry in VR?
No. There is a high risk of water damage to your headset.
@@Lootskin i've done so quite alot- but on accident (as in my eyes just randomely start to water) while lying down/ falling asleep on my bed- I have the index, and have had it for about 6/7 months now, so far no issues, but I do have that concern alot! xD
I would say if you're actually gushing, be concerned, but a little eye water here and there that wets your face a bit is fine while laying down
As someone who cry for a lot of things and also in almost every movie, I'm crying like once or twice a week since a year and never had any damage but I guess it depends on the headset and the quantity of water you drop lol
of course :')
my best friend has a vr and I do too, she's currently on vacation in the bahama's, and she also lives far away from me in general. I sleep almost every night with her on the vr and it makes me feel as if I were right next to her. I miss her, but sleeping in vrchat with her makes me so happy.
One of my friends has slept in VR every night for the past 3 years. They got 26k hours now
Also I use LuxVR to dim the screen and shift to warm colors late at night if I’m not in a VRFPS game. Works great 👍
That’s just sad.
14:36 youre brave for this, that camping world would of scared me because of how lonely it would feel
OMG! Yes when you first wake up in VR and ur like...uhhh where am I? xD Greta video PHIA!
i used to "social sleep" as you call it then i ended up not touching vr and losing touch with all my friends, now i love to sit in space listening to music falling asleep, its honestly amazing and i always get judged when someone wakes me up and they see a vr headset attatched to my face lol, the real world is just boring and rn i feel super lonely And this helps alot
BRO WHO IS THAT ONE PERSON WHO DISLIKED THE VIDEO....... IM COMING FOR YOU
sleeping in vrchat is something ive grown to love. especially when im by my freinds that ik will stay till i wake up. One other thing is everyone i hang out with knows i end up falling asleep.
gonna word vomit here about my sleeping in VR experiences. sleeping in VR is for sure unhealthy af and not worth forcing. big bulky heated brightscreen on your head is not comfortable. it is true, my first experiences sleeping in VR have been accidents where the chemistry between me and friends has been so good that none of us wanted to sleep. Since then, the majority of the time I ended up sleeping in VR was when I got really high or really drunk or both. many times I'd wake up in some cool starry world or dark room not knowing how I got there but truly bewildered at the thought of waking up in another dimension. my friends set up a "designated driver" thing where when they hung out with me in vrchat, if its time for bed but they can't get me to take off my headset, they'd drag me into a sleeping world and leave me there where I'd eventually fall asleep. if I'm not on dnd nor in a private world, sometimes a friend would hop in, wake me up, then we'd continue adventuring in vrchat as if I've never left. although the act of VR sleeping with friends or VR cuddling with girlfriends is a novel experience, I would not agree to sleep in VR while sober. just fall asleep on discord call instead :)
Me chilling in my bed, puts on this video: *Luma starts playing*
Me: 😭😭😭
same
its just such a good memory
At first I thought this was weird. But then I remembered there were a few nights in my highschool years where I fell asleep on a discord call with my girlfriend. We both stayed on call all night when this happened. Although weird I remember it being comforting at the time. Still don't plan on sleeping in vr on purpose tho.
Slept with my best friend of 3 years last night for the first time and that was the funnest thing ever. I didn’t get a lot of sleep because it was hard to sleep with the lens in my face but we grew so much closer and I loved it and I can’t wait to do it again
ChroahCresta is a name I haven't heard in a looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong time. He was well known in the Yugioh scene in now ancient times.
I enjoy it only because it is so surreal to wake up in another world.
I personally find it a lot easier to fall asleep in vr than irl, normally I'd take 30-40 mins to falll asleep, while in vrchat for some reason I can be out in 20 mins.
Lately I've been sleeping 4-5 days a week and its rly nice, but sometimes my eyes do hurt a bit after several days of vrsleeping, but that might be just me.
ok I know this is completely off the wall up thumbs up on the SM64 OST its really good
The way she explain everything at the start makes me really want to know how the experience is! 😅
Great video as always
