Wow, really? That's the theme music I grew up with when I first started watching basketball. Epic

Not uncommon for CBS Sports to debut a new theme for the prior season's championship.

This was the very first time CBS used this opening and theme song for their games and the last time would be game 6 of the 1989 Eastern Conference Finals, best theme and intro EVER for the NBA!!!!

One thing I wonder-- how did they get the shot of the ball in the hoop to change to the CBS Eyemark, and then zoom out from that to the full CBS Sports NBA World Championship title?

    An afternoon finals game??
That will never happen ever again??

That continued through 1990. The NBA demanded all Finals games in primetime for the contract it negotiated starting in 1990-91.

How far The NBA has come! Game 1 of The NBA Finals in 1983 started before it aired on tv? Must have been a golf tournament that ran late......after all The NBA had yet to grow into the juggernaut that it is today. No way would that happen today.

CBS had final round coverage of the Georgia-Pacific Atlanta classic before the NBA finals game.
