- Video released today shows the moment gunfire erupted during a traffic stop in Chicago last month, killing a man named Dexter Reed who opened fire at officers before they responded with more than 90 gunshots in less than a minute.
Mayor Brandon Johnson addressed the incident alongside Cook County State's Attorney Kim Foxx and COPA Chief Administrator Andrea Kersten.

I’ve had police tho k I was carrying by what was budging in my pockets. Waited till I got in my car and pulled me over later to check. Laws have changed so maybe they used the seatbelt aspect to follow that hunch. Regardless, shooting at the police does what? Profiling seems to of been right in this situation, so I’d leave that argument out. He could have ended going to shoot and kill somebody else that day.

Where was the profiling in this one. He wasn't wearing a seat belt, it's a £300 fine. I got one, payed it and moved on. Your not meant to shot the cops giving you the ticket.

as of what i heard they where planning on doing a bust a think on him or a hit, he was targeted in that area by unmarked and undercover cops, already being surveillanced nd only probable reason for cops to go and make a stop was for the seatbelt. Suspect ended up shooting one officer and dying at the scene. Police Activity uploaded all 3 POV of officers involved

@@roddneyfett444 If you watch the bodycam footage you can very clearly see the gunfire coming _out_ of the car, through the windshield on the passenger side, and the first shot is the one that hit the officer standing on the passenger side of the car. Like I said, this is all very clear in the video.

SO WHAT? There is no question the intent of the shooter, there is no question of the peril the officers and anyone in the line of fire of the Dexter Reid were under, there is no question that Reid needed to be stopped. He chose the weapon, he put himself in harm's way, HE made it necessary to prevent him deliberately and with certainty. I DON'T GIVE A DAMN WHAT COLOR DEXTER REID WAS.

It’s absolutely clear from the bodycam footage that Reed fired the first shots and the bullet that hit the officer came _out_ of the passenger side of the car’s windshield.
I mean yeah he was innocent if we are just allowed up make up things that never happened.
Two officers, who were not together. have statements that they both seen the bad guy with his window down a block down the street. The bad guy only rolled his window up AFTER he saw the police.

This shooting raises a lot of questions in my mind.
1. Why are five cops riding around in an unmarked car?
2. Why are cops in an unmarked car doing the job of a traffic cop?
3. Why is it necessary for five cops to jump out of the unmarked car and advance, shouting and pulling guns, over a seat belt infraction?
4. Over 90 bullets? Can't think of an excuse for that.

The video doesn't show how a traffic stop should go. Just saying...
1. It's unmarked because when you're doing tactical stuff, you don't want to alert your suspect.
2. I think the "traffic stop" was a ruse. There was something we haven't been told yet about him.
3. He most likely was under suspicion for something. He had a ski mask on.
4. He fired first. You keep shooting until the threat is no longer there.
The police recognized him (a couple of blocks back when he had his window down) as a repeat violent felon who had a felony warrant out for his arrest. When the officers noticed him they called for backup, that's why there were so many cops when they approached his car. Some of the cops were the fugitive apprehension group who were there to help arrest him.

Something doesn’t add up. If you listen closely, first they said that he shot first and then got out of the car and shot, but then they said that a gun was found inside of the car. It doesn’t add up. All they had to do was show the bodycam footage of him opening fire first. There’s too many holes in the narrative.

@user-zh6ih5ob5z I know nothing of the character of the person shot to death by the police. But it’s absurd that a seat belt check should be handled with such extreme prejudice. Obviously police getting shot at will fire back, they are basically a paramilitary organization. This isn’t a case where a major crime was committed yet the police acted as if they were ready to shoot with guns drawn from the get go. The question I have is this a normal procedure that others have encountered and were intimidated to surrender their rights to a gun waving force too? Probably. This instance is in the national dialogue because of the outcome of a death and cop being shot. Had the citizen not shot perhaps there would be not be this coverage and this sort of thing just would happen under the radar of news coverage. I’ve personally been pulled out by force and threat of violence by police once at a routine traffic check point with no suspicion of a crime before by 4 police just to randomly check for any outstanding warrants (I had none and was let go). But these sorts of situations are unconstitutional and belie a tendency for police to act as an independent agency not adhering to the rights of citizens to due process. So yes shooting at cops is not going to give you a great legal standing as a defense. But do we want to sanction police in dealing with minor infractions of laws in a ready for battle paramilitary manner, I don’t.
