As much as I want a Gorillaz movie, I think Jamie did the right thing to drop out if he wasn't allowed to use his own script. I do love Dreamworks very much, but I don't think they could've made a Gorillaz movie as it should be.
s0s2 tbh Dreamworks wouldn't even know what the fuck to do with Gorillaz anyways. I couldn't imagine a Dreamworks Gorillaz movie, it just seems all wrong and they wouldn't be able to handle the source material. I'm glad Jamie dropped out, I feel like it would have been a disappointment if he didn't.
He is so spot on when he talks about Gorillaz being for kids. It's exacty as he says. I was 8 years old when I first saw the video for Clint Eastwood on TV and I was obsessed with the band ever since. I wasn't sure if they were real people or not, but it didn't matter because it was still so fascinating to me.
It's a shame the Gorillaz movie never came out :(
Truley. Then again, the videos have their own narrative don't they? Like the whole Noodle storyline.
Yellow Submarine was essentially that, an album turned into a story/animated movie. So its entirely possible.

I remember Clint Eastwood Being their debut hit song ever when it was on What Now and i was then aged 6 in 2001.
Wish he could release that script. It could possibly give closure to the story arc and satisfy the fan.
When I first saw Gorillaz, I was much younger and I just got sucked in to the music video. I was so curious and I felt so connected to it.
I remember being 8 and thinking they were a real band ;_;

I never thought of gorillaz as a kids band. then I realised that I was listening to Clint Eastwood when I was 8!
I guess the reason why we haven't seen a movie is because due to companies creative differences of how they want and not what they want to create instead! We can only hope one day it will happen one day...
Kids band, eh? Well I guess they did work as they intended to, I fell in love with Gorillaz the first time I saw "Tomorrow comes today" video and I was eleven. :D

Founding an amateur band together with an animator from college to start with animated youtube music videos doesn't sound impossible to me.
As long as you give it your own style I'd even see a chance for such a project. I mean Gorillaz haven't really triggered a lot of animated bands, have they? So there is gaps to be filled!
gorillaz is more like a ongoing collaboration with one music producer from what I've gathered... so just get good at producing and make talented friends.

Jamie also had a pretty bad experience with his baby Tank Girl being turned into a "so good its bad" movie that was nothing like his comics. I can 100% see where he was coming from with the "what makes it work is being able to do whatever you want" take
