Wow having rain fall inside the house is next level. No need for 10 hours rain mood video playing on the background. Corious how the whole thing works during a thunder strom.
The application of the sleepers is extraordinary. Kudos for the owner for bring back to life this old gem that could can be appreciated every step and way. The Balau log is a masterpiece in its full glory and purpose. And I like the raw exposed red bricks in the toilet, gives it a natural raw and unfinished look that tells you that we don't always need to fully cover up all the wall elements.
Absolutely stunning. Incorporating recycled materials into modern design is ultra rare, and it the entire concept blends exceptionally well. May not be a choice for everyone but definitely a yes from me.
The house designs keep getting better and better with each video. We have indeed architects and designers that make houses from the heart and suits our tropical climate. And with very good tastes. Bravo to the owner/designer.
Designer had such magnificent vision. He saw every aspect of where and when light would hit each area. Absolutely amazing. I love the mix of old wood and concrete. Not my style of house but I appreciate the architectural mastery of each and every inch. One part I would enjoy very much would be to lie on the indoor bridge feeling and hearing the raindrops. Wonderful, thank you.
It's a wonderful house, both aesthetically and ecologically. I have often wondered in a tropical climate like Malaysia, how would a thunderstorm affect the open air-well concept? Will it allow the residents to walk sheltered from the heavy rain floor to floor, or would it be expected to get a little wet along the way? Or would the air-well itself be in such a unique situation due to it's positioning that it is away from blistering wind in a thunderstorm, that rain just falls straight? Would love to hear the insights from the architect or Design Seed. Thanks!!
I would love to know also. I've lived in S.E. Asia and can't imagine a hole in the roof during the wet season. Is there a sliding roof to close it up during a heavy storm? And what about mosquitoes? I absolutely love the design and applaud the reuse of old timber 👏👏👏 ... but that open airwell has me wanting to know more.
@@designunlimited6215 I lived in two houses with courtyard when I was young. This was a common design in the seventies. The area surrounding the courtyard will be wet from the rain. There is no sliding roof to cover it up. Both courtyard were used as a washing area (for handwashing clothes etc) and situated between hall and kitchen. I used to sit on the staircase beside the courtyard and watched the rain (not possible during strong wind + rain). The kitchen floor were cement and my mum would mop it dry after the rain. There were no protection against mosquitoes. I heard Pontianak's wailing from the trees outside the courtyard once. Recently, I viewed a few houses with courtyard and there are windows surrounding it; there was one house with a retractable sunroof. I'd opt for a sky window to let in the light. Much as I love the seamless outdoor/indoor concept, I'd opt for a well ventilated house with insect screen to keep the inside insects free.
I live in the Klang Valley in which we get rain almost daily, most days are heavy rain fall. Even when it rains and windy, I can keep my windows slightly open from my 22nd floor condominium and the rain falls straight down, and I do not have any awning over the windows. So I believe this design will work and it is the closest to what my ideal home would be.
@@zuritazahri There's significant difference between just leaving your windows slightly open during a storm, and having fwhole sections of the house that are fully open air though, especially if one of these is the only access you have to the top floor...
so inspiring me. as an architecture student I learned that this project tell us how to develop recycled materials in many parts of the house. The middle section (pond, void, skylight, and tree) is the core of this house. I can feel the comfort just looking from owner's interaction or just passing that area.
A very unique design ! Love the way they brought in lots of natural elements into the house making it looks ‘soothing and calm’… the blending of different materials used in this house is ‘just nice’ and well balanced.
It doesn't quite industrial and masculine, I love it. And those wood planks make the house looks better and beautiful. That makes me want to collect railway woods
Feels like your are in the countryside with all the recycles wood on your feet yet modern design all around, bringing both feelings together harmoniously.
This one definitely my number one favorite house. Yucatán Mexico, here we come with this beautiful house. I would like to mix some things from this house and some from the black on black house too. Both are beautiful and well arranged.
like the kitchen and the use of the sleepers as art decor. So far amongst the designs with an open air well for terrace house this stood out as one of my favs. Some questions: a) Apart from the sleepers what other recycled materials were used? b) Besides energy conservation with the x ventilation, does the house practice any sustainable acts ie. rain water harvesting? c) Lastly my fav question is the management of mozzies..
Because of the uniqueness of the designer collection wood it is truly the most unique designs and it's hard for anyone to copy truly beautiful ❤️ I just love the centre pond
Kudos to the owners!! Richard Tan himself. 👍👍 More home owners, designers, architects, should adopt this. In today's world of shortage in natural materials, it's so essential for us to look into upcycling. Love the vintage car by the way.
It's amazing experience since I joined your journey here. Would suggest to share some house plans with people. You'll be amazed to people reaction. Give free advise to people help them design.
This house is aesthetically very pleasing --- clearly one of the most beautiful modern + recycled wood houses I have seen. Though, I can't help but wonder how well the open roof cope with monsoon, heavy storm or just rain during rainy season in general. And with all those metal elements in the house near the open roof, rust will be everywhere after some years, won't it? I hope the open roof comes equipped with mosquito net otherwise the tenants will surely catch Dengue fever. Lol
That 8 meter log, repurposed from the old bridge is rich in history. Contemplate for a moment all that used it (and its twin). Simultaneously, this old timber lives up to the century old modernist ideal of spacial planes, unifying outside & inside. Seamless. Sturdy. Useful. The plan reveals Richard Tan's more sustainable approach to design and redesign sacrifices nothing in user comfort.
Epic. I’ve been looking around a lot for people using large beams in this way. I’ve spent a lot of time considering costs. The half cut on the sleepers looks so good. I don’t know if I could find a mill near me willing to take on the job.
- amazing house! and they found a perfect occupier - beautiful use of sleepers and wood from the bridge but prefer to use term repurposed wood than recycled, because the preservation of original state rather than being processed for other use - will the ground floor get really wet during heavy downpour with the open-to-air airwell? - black sanitary fittings should have been better match with the house - the acrylic inset at the window slit likely an afterthought but well it doesn't look that bad - would think a slim metal display shelf works better than the current glass one
Lovely home it is. Kudos to the architect and design seed for designing and covering this home. I would really appreciate if design seed can have more videos featuring interviews with architects on terrace house renovations because i would love to know their perspective on having a rooftop swimming pool build on the third floor of a double storey terrace house renovation. Tq design seed fro bringing more great content especially on terrace house reno across the country!
Unfortunately You can’t recycle train wood in my country. They are treated with a toxid oil😨 I love your house, and is stunned about all the beautiful🙏🏻 Hi from Denmark 🇩🇰
The aesthetics of this house is on another level. The pond and recyclable woods are definitely my favourite point of this house.
Wow having rain fall inside the house is next level. No need for 10 hours rain mood video playing on the background. Corious how the whole thing works during a thunder strom.
I love all these terrace houses transformation stories. Because majority of Malaysian houses are terraces, it is good to see the possibilities.
The application of the sleepers is extraordinary. Kudos for the owner for bring back to life this old gem that could can be appreciated every step and way.

The terrace house transformations on this channel are just insane. Good job guys keep it up! Wish there were more frequent uploads
I can just sit by the water for hours. The entire house gives me peace. Thanks for featuring this beautiful home.🥰
So far this is one of the best house I've ever seen here in RUclips. Such an amazing architectural and interior design.
Absolutely stunning. Incorporating recycled materials into modern design is ultra rare, and it the entire concept blends exceptionally well. May not be a choice for everyone but definitely a yes from me.
More amazing at the rainfall in the house! 😍

This channel is one of the latest find and I'm actually impressed by your videos. Informative and enjoyable
this house has so much character, and every single element/design has a story to tell
The koi pond in the middle of the home is 🐟 💯

I'm wondering the same thing, especially given that the staircase is located in that open area and is the only access to the other floors

So great design. Very unique… the recycling implementation is encouraging. Fantastic.🎉😊
This house is by far the most humble in terms of materials used but yet very charming.
The best house I have seen so faaar! Simple and sustainablee

What an inspiring space! Well done! Kudos to the Design Seed team for the well thought of video!
I can feel the calmness. Being fresh. Hope one day i can have this kind of house. I respect that Chinese cosmology 'wu xing' in this house.
