14:14 That's because when you asked for a large rice - the chef knew immediately who you were and ordered the staff to prepare the Matsumoto Rice Castle. Then watched in awe from the kitchen as you ate it all. They hung the bowl on the wall in honor of your feat. 🏯🍚
I love how polite you are whilst hinting that some food isn't quite as delicious as you hoped. In England it is called "damning with faint praise" and is also an art
When I see really old buildings, like the castle I often think about the people designing it, building it, the carpenters, stone masons, the ordinary people involved in the heavy manual work and could they have ever imagined that it would still be here now
The apple custard would be my choice. The shot you took from the top floor of the castle was stunning. The Japanese Alps are so majestic. The prices for rooms there are so affordable. Oh yes, the crab croquette looks so creamy and unctuous. Thank you so much for sharing your videos with us. Safe travels always.
The castle was lovely, and the views magnificent. The food was enticing, also- that hamburger steak looked delicious. Thanks for taking us along again.
whenever you taste food solo-san i keep waiting for the "!!" to figure out if the food is good or not :)) I have a suggestion - can you do a top 10 or something similar for 2022? Like what's the best food you had last year?
I've stopped concerning myself if you can finish your meals. You ate more food in episode 1 than I could ever imagine. Is there a Japanese word for "food conqueror"??? Many regards from Georgia, USA. Love your channels!
@@jameswent48 yes please, I'd enjoy a cookie. ☺️ Oh, and you call me the same name my grampa did. So kind of you! Just happy to see it right after it's posted. I don't expect an award, I'm just happy to have something new to watch. Hope your day is as sunny as your disposition.
No I wasn't worried at all abt whether you could finish all the food. You are Solo-san after all. 🤣🤣🤣 The food looks amazing as usual. Thanks for all the recommendations.
Glad I came along. Your dinner was delicious . . . so glad they served you an extra large rice. I wish I knew what was in the soup. It looked delicious. Beautiful castle. Nice hotel room. Will see you in the next one. Take care, stay safe.
What a beautiful castle! Truly you are lucky to have the chance to experience such a national treasure! Oh, no...at least you had good curry rice to soothe your soul. :)
I associate Matsumoto with some tasty soba/tempura sets I have had there. It's a great place to spend a day or two outside of Tokyo. Add another day and go outside a bit for a hot spring.
oh no i shouldn't have watched this so close to bedtime now i'm hungry (haha) the volga plate and the oyaki look so good! and then that glorious mountain of rice and that beautiful hamburger steak--and the croquettes! and the mashed potatoes so smooth i thought they were whipped butter! And the view was exquisite. I was saying to myself, 'Tabetai, tabetai, ikitai, ikitai,' this whole time (haha) And I see you got to have curry after all.
Thank you for bringing us along. I’m glad the crab croquettes got the double exclamation points. It would have been nice if there were more, but as you said, it was an experience. Showing the map at the end of all the places you stopped was really nice as well. I do enjoy when you bring up Google maps. And thank you for waiting in those long lines and walking up and down those crazy stairs to show us the top of the castle! I hope your cold feet recovered! Can’t wait to see what the next stop brings!
That castle was gorgeous. I am surprised they didn't have it decorated with period pieces. It was just empty. I've never heard of hashed beef. I'm not sure I would like bitter beef. Lol
Great video, Solo-san! Speaking of sanzokuyaki, have you been to the original Sanzoku in Shiojiri? You should feature it in a video sometime - it's really good and I think the volume of food will be to your liking :)
I'd love to do the castles. Is there a castle tour that takes you to all of them? The one time I was in Osaka the castle was closed. You can never have too many desserts.
Hi, can you help me save some train fare - my son and I are going to fukuoka then Kyoto then osaka. The fukuoka to Kyoto is the expensive one. Any suggestion what train to take? Do I need to buy online or just in the station? Appreciate your help😉
Omurice is "Omelet rice" It's pretty much a staple in Japan. The "correct" way to serve it is to slice the omelet open so it drapes down on the rice with the slightly uncooked side out.
Nagano and Matsumoto are beautiful, even in the winter. As a genuine westerner, I'm wondering what makes youshoku "western" food. It all looked pretty Japanese to me, but then, I couldn't taste it, so maybe something about the flavor? The rice mountain was just the perfect size for you 😂 . But no matter, "western" or not, your dinner looked amazing, and it seems as if it was much tastier than lunch! Thanks for the tour, and the moral of the story seems to be, "Don't go to Matsumoto when there's a festival going on"!
As I understand it, it's because it's Japanese takes on dishes that were brought to Japan from the West, like hamburger steak (the Japanese didn't originally eat a lot of beef), demiglace sauces (on the hambuger steak and the hayashi beef), omelettes (which were turned into omurice, which is basically the ultimate youshoku), croquettes (deep-frying and potatoes are also imports), and tempura (deep-frying again, brought by Portuguese missionaries).
I’m not sure which western country has beef hash that includes gravy but in the US, what we call hash is finely diced (already cooked) meat such as corned beef or roast beef mixed with finely diced potatoes and minced onions, sometimes minced bell peppers and certain spices. It is cooked on a griddle or in a pan in a small amount of butter or oil until the bottom get crunchy. It is then flipped and cooked until the bottom again is crunchy. It is usually served for breakfast with a fried egg. It’s a way to use up leftover corned beef in particular. Of course, now a days it’s a breakfast stable in Northeastern US diners.

I liked it 😂😂😂 I was also impressed with the amount of rice...and he ate it all!

if there are no "!!," you know what's up
"How interesting. It's certainly different."
Damning with faint praise, i like that!
I like this channel
I actually appreciate blunt honesty.

Curry Rice for breakfast! Yes!
Japanese western food is so interesting. Hong Kong also has their style of western food
I love Hong Kong macaroni soup! 🤤❤️
No seconds on that bowl of rice!!The hamburger steak and crab things looked good too!

Omurice I'm jealous ! My favourite Japanese food !! Loll.. Bet it was yummy solo- san...
I love your food tours. They make me hungry 😂

I really like your socks!
This time I was lucky, since I just ate before watching this, I didn't get hungry this time
I've stopped concerning myself if you can finish your meals. You ate more food in episode 1 than I could ever imagine. Is there a Japanese word for "food conqueror"???

First comment. I'm so excited for your videos!
Nobody cares that it is your first comment, dolt. Are you going to throw a party now? Or do you want a cookie?

The hand hewn beams and pillars are exquisite.
Absolutely stunning view. Gorgeous castle. Loved hearing the music at street fair. Nice room and great food.👍👍❤️😋😋
I love Solo Travel Japan, but I have to admit the food tour videos are my favorite! Please never stop posting!! Love from NY USA
Your channel has inspired me to travel to Japan again, my first post covid trip 😊
Strange mix of foods - especially that weird breakfast!
Excellent meals, it all looked very good. @10:45 beautiful views of the city and mountains. @16:20 awesome early morning sun on the mountains.
You could see Hotaka-dake from your room, nice...
No I wasn't worried at all abt whether you could finish all the food. You are Solo-san after all. 🤣🤣🤣 The food looks amazing as usual. Thanks for all the recommendations.
That hash beef rice looks delicious. I want to try it in Japan someday.
I really enjoy your videos, I will be traveling to Japan in April, I hope to be able to eat at some of the restaurants you have eaten at.
The views from the castle and your food were all beautiful! I'd probably get carried away taking photos.
I ❤ these videos. The hamburger steak looked good. Happy travels.
Thank you Solo Travel Japan, as usually enjoy your videos🙏
Really appreciated for your way to filming, polite👍
I'd go there just for the crab crocttes, omg they look so yummy!🦀🦀🦀🦀🦀
Great and interesting video. I like it all the time too. 👍👍👍❤️❤️❤️
The food in Japan look so healthy and good. We only get Hibachi and sushi here, but nothing like this. The closest we get here is Ramen. 🍲
Glad I came along. Your dinner was delicious . . . so glad they served you an extra large rice. I wish I knew what was in the soup. It looked delicious. Beautiful castle. Nice hotel room. Will see you in the next one. Take care, stay safe.
Great video as always! I really liked the map at the end showing where things were. Thanks for sharing your trips!
Oyaki looks delicious
I can't wait for your next video. 🙏 Sashimi rice sounds amazing! 🍣🍚
Delicious food
Another great video!
What a beautiful castle! Truly you are lucky to have the chance to experience such a national treasure! Oh, no...at least you had good curry rice to soothe your soul. :)
The Western style hash meal (Volga Rice) included a cabbage roll which is filled with rice and can include meat with some small amounts of vegetable.
What a lovely sunny day you have had, the castle looked so beautiful and I am happy you enjoyed the meals :)
I associate Matsumoto with some tasty soba/tempura sets I have had there. It's a great place to spend a day or two outside of Tokyo. Add another day and go outside a bit for a hot spring.
I would love to try the sparkling apple wine, I come from Frankfurt am Main and they have some good one there.
Loving the food tour!
Спасибо❤

I want all the foods. 😋
I'm proud of you, Solo. You climbed the Mountain of Rice! It was steep, but you did it.
That is quite cheap for the meal! It looks like it tasted amazing...

Yayyyy solo san !!!!!

It never ceases to amaze me how much you can eat.
How many channels do you have?
Can we see the drums next time ? Or was it a recording ? I was hoping you would walk by. Great video !!
I'd love to do the castles. Is there a castle tour that takes you to all of them? The one time I was in Osaka the castle was closed. You can never have too many desserts.
The wait time is faster than waiting for popular Disneyland rides in California😅
Inside the castle room looks like one of the inns Zatoichi used to gamble at.
omg it's the place i am living at rn 😂
Wonderful!!! You don't have wool socks in Japan??!! With all that snow you get I'd think it was a thriving industry.
Can you please provide the names of the restaurants? I am going to Matsumoto this fall and would like to go to these restaurants!
once again another great tour, with curry this time!
you waited so much that day 松本 more like 待本
I like traveling alone. What are your favorite countries? I want to go to Singapore. My favorite thing to do in life is eat good food.
👍👍👍

so, you do not have a JR Railpass?
Hello STJ, someone needs help here!
You know the food is really really good when there is exclamation marks on the caption. !!!
You always have nice socks.
That didn't sound like a ringing endorsement for the first meal.
👍😊❤
Is the map view at the end of the video a new feature? It's a really good reference!
was that first rice dish wrapped in an omelet? 🥣🍜🥢
Yes, "omurice"... popular Japanese style Western dish.
Omurice is "Omelet rice" It's pretty much a staple in Japan. The "correct" way to serve it is to slice the omelet open so it drapes down on the rice with the slightly uncooked side out.

@@Waywren Thank you for explaining!
Japanese heritage = Disneyland. General architecture = cement boxes. Food = yummy, as ever.
👏🤩💕

Japanese Hayashi is derived from French recipes that utilize Demi-Glace sauce.
In English, they're called "mashed potatoes" not "mush potatoes". lol. Still, mashed or mushed they looked yummy!
I guess you don’t speak English and I don’t speak Japanese but that menu would be tough for me to understand.
The Google Translate smartphone app works well for situations like this. You take a picture of the text and the app will translate it into your language of choice.
Sweetie, that is NOT Western food lol . We eat omelettes not omurice and that is no hash than i have ever seen.
More accurately Yoshoku cuisine is "Western influenced Japanese food". This style of cooking combines "Western" ingredients and techniques with Japanese ones to create distinct dishes. Today, Yoshoku dishes are now regarded as Japanese comfort food.
You've mentioned salad from your breakfast,this ain't no salad, it's a corn
