Friendly reminder that a good title needs to be punchy, short, memorable, and get across the idea of the story within prior criteria. Let's take these as examoles as what NOT to do.
although you are 100% correct, this new trend among japanese literacy to have a giant title is something that has an actual reason, basically people there almost never read the backside of the book which has the synopsis, so EVERYBODY judged books for their cover, authors were fed up with their work failing due to that and started a movement to make their titles THEMSELVES the description, so when in the video he says that "those books can be judged by its cover" its ironic, because thats the whole purpose and objective of it now most of them are just authors following the trend, knowing or not its reason edit: he already said it in the video lmao, although partially
I swear, the content of Dungeon Toilet is what people picture when I mention Dungeon Meshi or Toilet Bound Hanako-kun and they've never heard of those so all they have to go off of is the titles
@@RealSunArtI did the same at first! I thought it was about a kid who had IBS or something and was like, bound for the toilet. But they spend almost zero time on the toilet thing. XD The title is a reference to the urban legend of Hanako-san, a girl who was said to have died in a school bathroom and now haunts it. TBHK takes place in a school that is very haunted, and most of the ghosts/entities are bound to a location (like the library or the stairs). The area Hanako is bound to is the girls' bathroom because of the urban legend he's based on. It's got absolutely gorgeous art, an intriguing plot, an immersive setting, supernatural/light horror elements, cute and loveable characters, humor, some romance, and characters that are doomed by the narrative, so if any of those sound good to you, I definitely recommend checking it out. The anime is fun, but it cuts some really good early parts, and the manga art is beautiful, so I either recommend watching the anime and then moving on to the manga if you like it, or just starting with the manga.
@@Dr.PicklePh.D. well that explains the title sooo much more! You know I think you may have convinced me to start reading the manga haha. Not sure when I’ll be able to purchase the book myself, but I will for sure give it a try. Seems cool, Thank you!
@@jademonass2954 Ooh! I saw a Tumblr post arguing for that translation, and while I see the point and I do think it's more palatable to an English-speaking audience, I don't think it's entirely accurate either. The 地 in 地縛 does mean “earth” on its own, but the phrase 地縛霊 that it comes from refers to a ghost that's tied to a location or place of death, not ground or the earth. If you translate it as “earth-bound,” that would be like translating the English word “mortify” as “to become dead” just because the root “mort” means “death” and “-ify” means “to become,” even though the modern word means “to embarrass.” It is cool to know the etymology, though, and I see how it fits thematically with the story. Hanako is a 地縛霊 that's bound to the bathroom (his boundary) or the school (which he's literally unable to leave). So “bathroom-bound,” “school-bound,” “bound ghost,” or even “ghost boy Hanako-kun” (since the current English translation drops the 少年 entirely) might be more accurate. I'm personally not a fan of any of the “[something]-bound” translations because to me it sounds like he's bound FOR whatever it is, like he's going there. XD I don't really have any better suggestions, though. And finally, as to why they called it that, translators often don't get to translate the title of a work. The author or Japanese publisher often comes up with the title and English-language distributors aren't allowed to change it. This is why a lot of anime/manga titles sound odd: they weren't translated/localized by native English speakers. I don't know if that's the case with TBHK, but I think it's entirely possible. Hope this wasn't too long and didn't come off as passive-aggressive! I think about this a lot and I have a lot of fun talking about Japanese and translation. :D
The instant death novel was actually made to mock most Isekai manga, and although the beginning isn’t the greatest, I personally believe the loss of character conflict with the main character is made up mostly by the sheer ridiculousness and randomness of the plot
Even still the ridiculousness can only take you so far and the worldbuilding character development and plot are almost nonexistent and the mc has almost no reason to ever engage in it (so far in the anime)
Except that he is not breaking containment since there is no scp foundation and the government basically gave up. With that premise, it honestly would be a good manga if not for the isekai part. I've read it and the more chapter the more disconnected the mc to the plot. Probably the author knew the mc is too op so they had to distance the mc from the conflict to make a longer arc
@cefrinaldi8060 I mean, that's just a standard. If you have an OP character, then the focus of the story's action should not be on the main character. Obviously, One Punch Man is a lot better, but that story also pushes Saitama away from the conflict a lot too. Overlord is also similar too, even if there are still some stakes mixed in. They could use that to tell a story of someone who has been shut off due to their curse, but they meet someone who is willing to get to know them. That one extremely long title is actually making fun of all the other really long titles of other manga by combining them into a single long description. It's like "Don't Be a Menace to South Central while Drinking Your Juice in Da Hood." Except a stupid isekai manga.
The titles thing for what i have heard is bc it starts as a web novel in a page where diferent authors post their work, idk if doesnt have a descripcion, but the trittle works as it is, its like those clickbait videos, whit the exception its later published as an actual book or manga, several series started as this, like overlord, konosuba, rezero, etc.
a ton of light novels, manga, and anime have been adapted from decade old works on syoset, and isekai with comically long titles was a trend back then. re zero, mushoku tensei, and konosuba all started there in 2012 for example.

We are inevitably heading towards the future Homestuck predicted, where the whole plot of the story will end up being the title. Looking at you Isekai...
Tbh "my instant death ability is so overpowered that no one in the other world doesn't stand a chance against me" is honestly a very boring read, there's not really any character development and the mc just break logic like asking a damn IMMORTAL and an INANIMATE OBJECT to die is honestly confusing. I agree there are funny moments here and there but overall its a pretty overuse isekai manga (and I like isekai...(kinda)). And the story gets pretty boring as episodes and chapters goes on, soo read it if you like ig. I watched the anime anf gets hored after like 3 episodes or sum.

I am ashamed to say....... i own a lot of the series of the invincible shovel. it's just kinda hilarious??? there like one character who's trying to fight the bullshit (her name is catria) and she's great. it's hilarious but kind of awkward at points mainly because the princess what's to give alan a typical harem and he's just not into that and catria is trying to explain that and alan is trying to explain it but it just furthers the misunderstanding, the narrator (i have the novel version) is also chiming on the misunderstanding too it great in that "just turn your brain off and have fun it's stupid and silly" kind of way.

I’m a writer. I keep a collection of shitty media on hand for when I begin to doubt my skills. I read/watch terribly written, yet professionally released media to remind myself that my ideas are not so bad after all. These are all going on my list immediately. Thank you for your service. ❤
I Was Killed by a Leprechaun and I Got the Luckiest Fucking Skill
That long titled multi-paragraphs title is so funny i hope thats a parody series.
9:03 Wait, you're telling me that this shovel can help me with my failing trigonometry grade? Well hell, sign me up!
13:15 You literally could've called it Wand Hero and it would still get the point across with a cover like that.
5:12 the fact this one got an anime too is hilarious!!!
They made an anime for the insta kill one
yeah….. Thanks for taking one for the team and checking out most of these (I don’t blame you for skipping that certain one)
I don't care if it IS just fiction, some of these mangaka need to be locked up.
saw the title and said "if dog n word isnt here i'll be pissed"
I liked the richard manga more then I expected, it's a good comedy and surprinsingly there's not a lot of fanservice
You should read Lostend,Player,Blade and Bastard; then maybe even When I Woke Up, I Got the Strongest Equipment and a Starship, so I Went and Became a Mercenary in Order to Live as I Please while Aiming for a Detached House. XD
Also "My Life Is A Romance Game?? Was What I Thought But Is Actually A Life Risking Game" is actually really good.
You won't hate them. I promise.
Nothing can describe the feeling of another manga on the list turning out to be one I read at least 2 chapters of.
"My Instant Death Ability..." just finished a season of anime, it's actually quite good. It's absolutely absurd, but a fun ride.
That one extremely long title is actually making fun of all the other really long titles of other manga by combining them into a single long description.
It's like "Don't Be a Menace to South Central while Drinking Your Juice in Da Hood." Except a stupid isekai manga.
honestly never thought I'd hear legend of bumbo ost like ever so this was a pleasant surprise for the intro
Make a video of how Sakamoto days manga is good!!!
Bro is traumatized and i sincerely want to apologize to him even thought tgis is my first time coming across him...
Great video like usual,i love watching your vids man, keep up the great work.
Sidenote,if you want a manga/manwha with a long/dumb title but is actually good you should check out Survival Story Of The Sword King In Another World, the title may tell you everything but it is actually a great story with fenomenal art, anyway again great video ❤!
Good day/afternoon/evening or night to any reading this
I was at a bookstore and I saw a manga called ‘The princess of inconvenient plot device’ or smth like that. I didn’t get it because it was about my parent’s age restrictions for what I read in manga
Dungeon toilet is just a dungeon meshi ripoff, right down to the cover format being the same 😭😭
The Instant Death manga is unreal in the fact it somehow has an anime. They (un)fortunately cut out the dragon wang in the first episode. Well, the joke about it atleast. they still show it stabbing the kid and literally *throbbing* LMAO.
0:16 when did you talk about PPPPPP? I know there's a very little chance you'll see this comment but I can't find any video where you talk about it
Nice presentation for a new wiever, this video made me question a lot of things.
Bruh been working hard asf for the past week then my beautiful baby boy showed up in my reccomended
13:39 I hoped it would be “My little sister makes the best chocolate chip cookies” :(
Ngl I rly like the instant death one :( can totally understand findin it borin tho
Do you love your mom is good too but uhhhhh really loves her son… and uhhh you know how OVAs tend to push the envelope cuz they can? Yea… it gets really weird. Surprised you didn’t mention all the almost incest in that one.
Bro the instant death GOT ADAPTED TO AN ANIME
My goat is back!!!
To think that i knew like half of the mentioned manga. Also it was surprising you dont include that manga where the mc who got kicked out of the heroes party marry every mothers of the heroes party members. Yes its a harem and they legitimately marry one another since it was appearantly legal to have many wives. And the title is quite ridiculous but j forgot
We are inevitably heading towards the future Homestuck predicted, where the whole plot of the story will end up being the title.
Looking at you Isekai...
I think reading those titles has scarred me for life.
when u readin umineko
One of the people who did teekyu did that toilet manga, I think
Yoooo the Captain Mack mention
That last title is nuts
Tbh "my instant death ability is so overpowered that no one in the other world doesn't stand a chance against me" is honestly a very boring read, there's not really any character development and the mc just break logic like asking a damn IMMORTAL and an INANIMATE OBJECT to die is honestly confusing. I agree there are funny moments here and there but overall its a pretty overuse isekai manga (and I like isekai...(kinda)). And the story gets pretty boring as episodes and chapters goes on, soo read it if you like ig. I watched the anime anf gets hored after like 3 episodes or sum.
I pride myself in enjoying trash manga/manhwa but you really set such a low bar for us to limbo under. I'm not sure I could endure the way you do, brother!
I thought I would read all of these stories as a joke until I saw that one horrific title. Jail just jail the author
It was bad idea to eat with this vid on
try "Elf Deck To Senjou Gurashi" its pretty good
I guess you never saw random web novels with terrible titles yet~
There are some that are the literal synopsis of the novel or weird titles to *WHO TF TITLES THEIR NOVEL WITH THIS?!* kind of web novel titles~
I'm sorry but how you described The Invincible Shovel sounds like parody
I saw a couple pages from dog ningen and thought it was a shitpost I can't believe this is real
this one hit the hardest bro 12:45
5:25 thing is, this became an anime. It was kinda boring
A weird one, but I think it might be good. I messed up and made the wrong person the magical girl.
accidently found one called "A Mouthful Of My Loli Master's Milk Makes Me Unparalleled"
Masked Man, what have you done with Scamboli?
I am ashamed to say....... i own a lot of the series of the invincible shovel. it's just kinda hilarious??? there like one character who's trying to fight the bullshit (her name is catria) and she's great. it's hilarious but kind of awkward at points mainly because the princess what's to give alan a typical harem and he's just not into that and catria is trying to explain that and alan is trying to explain it but it just furthers the misunderstanding, the narrator (i have the novel version) is also chiming on the misunderstanding too it great in that "just turn your brain off and have fun it's stupid and silly" kind of way.
I kind of want to see masks Figurama collection now that he's been working with them for a good bit
The die one has a anime which is even worse
