    Really hope they develop exploration enough where long away trips become worthwhile. Now that ship bed logouts are a thing I’m looking forward to extended (multisession) outings more than ever! That is definitely a great HQ for a small org.

      Ozram Blue, I absolutely agree! Not only do I hope they make exploration meaningful, but give some utility to those luxury items aboard as well; like the pool table, jacuzzi, etc! Just a little something meaningful, especially during those long quantum travels! If pyro comes out and the odyssey is also available by then, I’m probably gonna hang around the jumppoint waiting for potential smaller ships to arrive, offering them longer range transportation for a percentage of whatever they are about to earn doing what I am ferrying them around to do. Maybe charge for refueling as well, when they also implement manual refueling in the hangar bay. One day I might be transporting a group of miners to take them to some good mining spots, the next one I might be helping a hunter track some bounty hiding in some far reached spot, giving them a base of operations. Can’t wait for this one to be released.

      @@ViciDeum Heck yeah. I’ve been doing stuff like that in a friend’s 890 a lot. We respond to medical beacons, have a pisces loaded in the bay to shuttle ourselves to the incapacitated player, bring them aboard the flying hospital. Lots of interesting player engagement going on there!
      Right now I’m also training for pyro, trying to become as independent from space stations and spacesuits as possible while traversing in the loaner carrack I got until the odyssey is out. One day I’ll be living in my odyssey!

    Certainly not a Carrack-killer, but that is in no way a drawback. The Odyssey is the ideal ship for those who want to get out there and go as far as they can, and then stay there until they've seen it all. Detaching from the universe and its dangers just to see what they can see, but still packing enough of a punch to look after itself when need be. Perfect for scouting out new worlds, performing ground missions, and capable of performing just about any task it needs to with the ability to bring a huge range of small-medium class ships to supplement itself for those tasks it cannot perform entirely itself, such as mining which I do not think it will be able to handle natively, but a prospector would allow it to do this with no trouble.
    The temptation to put it next to the Carrack is always going to be there though and I think that each of these together would be your best possible exploration dream-team. The Carrack providing the absolute best in scanning, surveying, and data storage as you make your way into the brave unknown, the Odyssey more than capable of stepping through and keeping the fleet afloat as you dig deeper into these new locales with the ability to refuel and haul in the heavier industrial or supporting craft as you start to set foot on new worlds with no expectations.

    • @ViciDeum
      @ViciDeum  2 года назад +1

      BC, thank you so much for leaving such a thoughtful response! And I absolutely agree with your analysis, I think that the pairing of an Odyssey and Carrack would make an excellent combination!
      They both complement one another really well, and all while strengthening each others’ deficits; whether that be in their utility or as a function of the ship’s size!
      I can’t wait to have these ships both in game with a flushed out exploration loop so we can really test the mettle of that combo! And thank you for taking the time to continue to watch these videos and share your thoughts, I really appreciate your ongoing engagement!

    the possible fuel independence could make it *in a way* a stealth explorer.
    say there's a large part of space that's not safe, and you want to explore either beyond that or you want to explore that area from around the fringes. the odyssey could got the long way around, giving that area as wide a berth as needed to remain unseen. the carrack, even with its range, would eventually have to refuel somewhere or take short cuts to conserve, possibly giving away its position.

    • @ViciDeum
      @ViciDeum  2 года назад

      Red Ensign, I didn’t even consider this but that’s an excellent point! While it wouldn’t make a stealth explorer in the “traditional” sense, since it has a higher signature, it does make a great stealth explorer in your example! With the ability to circumvent any situation, this ship can definitely slip through anywhere! Because of that, I could see it as a fantastic smuggler! Might take a bit longer for the goods to arrive, but they’ll always make it to their destination! And thank you for taking the time to watch this video and leave your thoughts, I really appreciate your ongoing engagement!

    Great video! And really good analysis. I just personally cannot bring myself to like this ship. I think the extreme modularity of the Carrack and it's drones and... i just prefer the Carrack, but it's because I see every ship through the eyes of a pirate and think about how I'd use it with a motley crew...

    Is it just me or does everyone seem to overlook the fact that this ship has 3 size 5 turrets (Yes with bad placement) and missiles as well as a capital shield. I don't think this is going to be destroyed as easily as everyone thinks it will be, and if you put a terrapin in the hanger it can pretty much do the carrack's jump point mapping.

    • @ViciDeum
      @ViciDeum  2 года назад +2

    With this ship you have to read the fine print. Exploration IMHO is one ship. Charting out areas looking for wormholes , ores, gas or whatever you may find. The Odyssey is Bout the size of a 890 jump, which has a grand speed of 80 m/s to 900m/s I expect the Odyssey to be about the same. Compared to a Carrack at 208m/s to 1236m/s. Also look at Fire power it has less than a Redeemer and poor turret placement. If its mining for Profit, Guess what's in the Cargo Hold. This makes it a Prize target for all Privateers. I see this ship needing a Escort at the very least. In a Small Fleet situation I think this one will be a blast . I don't see it as a Solo Explorer

    • @ViciDeum
      @ViciDeum  2 года назад

      Kendall Scott, you raise some really interesting points! And I agree with your differentiation between the roles and capacities of the Odyssey versus the Carrack! I do suspect the Odyssey will struggle in atmospherics and would definitely need to provide a suitable onboard escort if operating as a solo exploration ship, especially in dangerous space! And thanks for taking the time to watch this video and share your thoughts, I really appreciate your ongoing engagement!

    I’ve always been kinda disappointed in how everyone seems to bombard this ship with negativity, especially Carrack-lifers. I think it has a special place in the verse to partner with the likes of the Carrack. Sure, it doesn’t carry modular cargo pods, or drones or repair facilities, and who knows if they might add some of those facilities as they implement this ship in game. The Odyssey is a cool ship!

    • @ViciDeum

    This one quickly aged badly based on that "Carrack killer" comment. It is a nice ship but not a Carrack killer, despite the personal preferences of one dev.
    It got too little cargo space for a medium org to use it as a head quarter.
    I don't see it as a mining ship. It will be a good refueling station for ships that fits into its hangar though.

    But piracy is not just about stealing cargo. It also includes stealing the entire ship. A less defensible ship will always be a preferred target.

    • @ViciDeum
      @ViciDeum  2 года назад

      That’s a fantastic point, and one which I do tend to overlook sometimes! There are multiple avenues for pirates including commandeering the entire ship as well! And the fact that it’s a defensible and large ship are both potential deterrents to any pirate 🙌

    i kept telling people the 2 ships are not comparable and this is perfect in making me right! its a lot closer to the starfarer than the carrack. comparing the odyssey and carrack to me is like comparing an endeavor to a merlin....
    i cant see the 700 dollar value in the odyssey! if they sold it for 300 i would probably get the CCU.
