What a useful tutorial. I never realised you could burnish colours without using a blender pencil. I remember in anatomy at school when making a pencil drawing I always used one of my fingers (school was so long ago I can't remember which one)! However it was my way of blending. What a beautiful rose, drawn so well and coloured so realistically. Thank you so much for posting.

Your shading is superb. It lifted this rose 🌹 out of the paper and brought it to life. That last really dark petal was the perfect ending. You really need a pencil extender or two to help you get every last bit out of your materials. That little white stub looked hard to use. Have you seen pencil extenders? Derwent make them, amongst others.

I've recently gotten into coloring books and watching these types of videos and what few books I can find makes me think of how poor my high school teacher was. A few lessons here and there but otherwise it was every student for his/herself but these videos are a lot more helpful.
The colors used are: PC956-Lilac PC1008-Parma Violet PC932-Violet (he calls it dark violet, but its violet, there is no such thing as dark violet) PC929-Pink PC930-Magenta PC903-True Blue PC935-Black (he is using Polychromos Black though, probably bc the poly black appears much darker and more saturated than prisma black) PC938-White (to blend/burnish the colors together)
The paper he is using is called Canson CA Grain, it's 111 lb paper that has quite a bit of tooth, that's why his drawing looks "grainy" prior to burnishing with white. A good alternative to this paper thats widely available in the US at stores like Walmart, Target is Canson XL Mixed Media, its pretty cheap. Canson CA grain is not sold anywhere in pads, but Hobby Lobby and Blick have 20"×25" sheets for $2.50 and you can cut it and get 4 10"×12.5" sized sheets.

What set did you get the colors in, because I have the 72 set, but I can’t find dark violet, well, are you saying “dark violet”, or “dark lilac”?
Maybe he’s using the 132 color set bcuz I think I found it
