i don't believe that. Marlo is eye-for-an-eye. He wanted Joe's nephew to question him with brutal force or even worse, make him pay for the loss. It just played out that way.
@mkn.567, Agreed. Marlo was no genius. He was simply more ruthless than the others. They had all gotten fat and soft. Joining a co-op and trying to be civilized.
Joe introduced Marlo to the plug to save Cheese. That introduction started a chain of events that would lead Cheese to betraying Joe. Now I see why Slim killed Cheese
Joe was saving Joe, not Cheese. Marlo wanted Joe to give up Cheese so he could find out who was behind the co-op getting robbed, which Cheese would’ve said Joe orchestrated it with Omar.
Joe just let them know it was Omar by saying "The faggot gave us one". Joe didn't want the details of him trying to setting up Marlo come out.
The main reason Slim clipped Cheese was because he saw he had no sense of morality which made him a threat to everyone around him

Since, i ve always felt like Slim knew his boundaries but wasnt scared of no one, just a formidable soilder and a gangsta all the way. Him at this interaction with Marlo cemented that he was THE man, whereas Prop Joe was losing face at this co op meeting. Therefore, Slim wasnt taking any off Marlo and Chris, and made sure both were in check while having a word with Joe. An alpha move, if u will.

It's funny how when Joe meets Omar, he says, "You ever steal from me, I kill your whole family." Trying to intimidate Omar.
Then, three seasons later in Season 4, Omar sticks a gun in Joe's face, in that excellent "ran outta time" scene. The development of the relationship of the two characters is amazing.

Ironically, it's Prop Joe's fault that Marlo distrusts security. He manipulated and lied to Marlo previously that security at his poker game colluded with Omar to steal the money. Now that Omar stole the shipment, Marlo is suspicious of whoever was in charge of the stash. So, to save his nephew, he set a meeting for Marlo to meet his connection. This is the beginning of his end.

And here is where Prop Joe makes a very poor decision that cost him his life. He offered to allow Marlo to hear about the stick up directly from his connection. A very "unlike Joe" decision here to allow Marlo within 100 miles of the connection. I guess Joe felt his connection would never betray him like that.

Joe was a principal type of guy old school. Didn’t want to give up his nephew because family to him meant something and later on it was his own nephew he backed up that betrayed him. Rough ending.

This is where Prop Joe messed up. He underestimated Omar, Marlo and his nephew Cheese. Slim saw the angles and tried to warn Joe but he disregarded it.
Joe looks weak to Marlo for two reasons. 1st losing the shipment and then failing to stand tall on his responsibility for losing it. He also showed too much respect/ fear of Marlo putting him in direct line with the connection. He should have never done that.
