Had just rebooted my Mac, loaded up my current scene and got the corrupt message. Even the backups were corrupt. Panic. This totally worked. C4D 2024.02. Thanks so much!
WINDOWS USER HERE on R19: Thanks a lot mate! You did save me from rebuilding the whole scene. After adding the string at the end of the shortcut, the message still popped up, but it did open the file. It was not the full scene, but it managed to recover the camera position which was the trickiest to redo. Incremental saving is your friend. I am always doing this, but for some reason, I failed to do it now. Thanks again!
@@stepa1action496 There's not much to do, but follow the instructions. As mentioned, I did not have a 100% recover, so not sure if this is a certain way to recover damaged files.

Your file called "corruptfile" already has a scene preview on the thumbnail! a corrupt file doesn't have a scene preview on the thumbnail at all, only shows Cinema 4D logo on the thumbnail!!!

If he can open it, but you cant then theres only 2 options. Either you are using vastly different c4d versions, like R22 and R12. OR the file sending process is corrupting.

One of the PC's can open anything, but when that one saves a project, every other PC says: "Incorrect file structure". However, that PC saving it, can still open it. So one PC is causing the weirdest problem. Really annoying, so now only that PC can open the project. Luckily team-render still works.

Hi Matthew, interesting "hack" that I hopefully won't need. The video (judging by the C4D versions shown in the clip) seems a bit older; is this still working with R21/S22?
@@huiling9368 I haven't had to test it for years, keep in mind it is 100% possible the corruption damage is too extensive to load in. This method only helps with lightly damaged files with bit flips and naughty plugins. If a file didn't finish saving during a power cut for example, there won't be enough data left to recover.
I have an issue with Octane: when I open my project file Octane crashes and Cinema with it ofc. I think it's an issue with the loading of the materials. I have a few Blend Materials and some displacement and one Octane Object tag which drives some subdivisions. I also think I must have saved it right before it crashed the first time, so whenever I open it again it goes through the same crash over and over again. Spent days on this project and it is so sad to see it crash every time, I never thought about making several saves. I'm gonna try to uninstall Octane so it won't load the materials, so I can at least get my scene back. You are a much smarter man then I am, so I was curious if you had a workaround. Thanks!
Maybe you can try empty texcache ,its in Live VIew menu Materials.And go to c4doctane settings/Other panel, press the Empty texCache button, and disable the Use Texture Caching option.
My next thing to try would be removing the octane plugin from c4ds plugins folder. Open c4d. Load the scene. copy and paste everything into a new project. Save as a new file. Close c4d. Put the octane plugin back into c4d then reload c4d and open the new file you made.

Almost worked. Scene wasn't able to salvaged, but a few of the objects were there. I started over.
I am getting the error message "Unknown file format" for a c4d file, that I was working on for months. Infortunately this fix doesn't help me.

Unfortunately this only works if c4d crashes cleanly. If there is a hard system or driver crash, or power cut, theres not much that can be done
