Yeah, I also saw this when it originally aired on TV, which actually makes me feel kind old now that U think about it. You know you are old if you were around when all the taxi drivers were actually White.
There was another good one where they had a lady role downhill into a gas station. She was in a car with no engine. She told the guy in the gas station that her car was running fine and it just shut off.

How I loved this show as a kid growing up in the 60s. One of the few shows where the whole family had a belly full of laughs together... that an Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In ! Great days indeed.
In the UK we had the engine-less that that called into a garage for petrol - classic - the radio controlled farm tractor, that did the same routine - Jonathon Routh was the stooge, sadly missed as he had a real deadpan expression-wise, never smiled. Also the snooker match on TV in a electrical shop window and the ball went into a pocket then dropped out the bottom of the TV set onto the floor! - wonderful stuff - harmless, no swearing, just good entertainment - bring it back, even the old stuff! :)
The guy in the engineless car asked the mechanic to check the oil. Another one was a mini, I think that had fuel tanks in every conceivable place, the driver asked the attendant to fill up the car, he was there ages scratching his head wondering where all the fuel was going. Lol
@@Sherwoody And the one where Fannie was sweeping the sidewalk and hit a passerby on the behind with her broom stuck in my mind. No one could do that now. We need lighten up and get back our sense of humor.
The concept of this gag was also replicated in the Australian movie "Malcolm" released in 1986 which features a car splitting in two as a significant aspect of the movie.
Also, The Love Bug has a scene where Herbie gets split in two and finishes a race in both first and third. I think that was split into a front half and back half though.
You devalue Candid Camera with this...diamonds aren't rare, they're only expensive due to a greedy company controlling the market. Gold was correct to begin with.
Oh man, my parents told me about this bit several times growing up, but I couldn't find anything on it and was starting to think they had made it up or misremembered it or something. Lo and behold, it is just as funny as they described it.
This was one of the funniest ones ever. And then the sneezing phone. I think the sneezing phone was my top favorite one. I wished I could see that because I laughed so hard every time I see it And I would love just love to be able to do that, but we live in the world where people hate and get too angry too easy and so it would be impossible to do this sneezing phone
1962: split car, everyones laughing, and talking about it for days, months, years. The joy bought to many people. 2024: Someone got called sir instead of ma'am. Theres rage, threats, tears, sadness and depression for days, months, years.
I remember a stunt with Peter Funt where they went to a mall parking lot, waited for someone to head-in park & leave their car; and then the crew came in and built a real L-shaped brick wall behind the car. The wall was actually pre-fab and fork-lifted into place, but the unsuspecting car owner got a good shock when they came back out😅!
The split car is a french Renault 4cv (called like this here) competitor of the beetle. It is technically interesting what was done to actually make it run.
There was another one of a small car like this one where the put in a huge tank for gasoline, like 30-40 gallons when the original might have held a max of 10 or so gallons and went to fill it up at an attended gas station. It was great seeing the weird looks when it took 15, 20, 25 or 30 gallons and still not full.
They did one with a car without an engine. Rolled down 'Spinny Hill's in Manhasset LI NY. Girl said check the oil.?..,no engine. The show was taped in NYC. After the show some cast members would bowl at Mr. Harry Guggenheims estate. The show 'Whats my line cast were frequent guests also at the estate for bowling. Kitty Carlisle had an average of 160s. I used to live and work on the estate.
We have since found out through the decades that the police officer scene at the beginning was staged for the show. The car comes straight at the officer at speed, nearly hits him, and then splits off at the last second; and yet the officer didn’t flinch or question his dangerous situation for even one second.
The best episodes were with Dom DeLuise and Eva LaRue. There were both new episodes and excerpts from old, classic ones. And all the pranks were very cute, and at the end they showed someone from the audience. But Candid Camera erased them from its memory. I still have unique recordings from TV, but RUclips bans them due to complaints from copyright holders.
One of Candid Camera's most memorable gags. I remember seeing this when I was a kid. I'm still busting out laughing. That makes this a classic.
I REMEMBER this as a kid!! Thought it was a dream. So funny.
My best friend at school told me about this stunt, and now I've finally seen it. We used to watch this programme quite often.
Me too!
It's been copied from a film of Laurel & Hardy.
