      @@sirensofsouthusa6397 this is in NZ. We don’t use fire sirens in the UK as we don’t have many volunteer fire stations however in New Zealand many require a siren to notify the volunteer for a call out. Here in the UK the only sirens we have are for floods, chemical complexes, oil refineries, nuclear waste material, factory warning systems, high security psychiatric hospitals etc
      We don’t have that many Carters in the UK. Mainly Klaxon/Secomaks, Castle Castings and electronic sirens

    The volunteer fire station I used to be at used the pager in the sky. I still miss the sound of the relay going clunk if I was near by when a job dropped. Now we all carry pagers. No more sirens.

    Is it sad that I knew it was a Carter just from the sound or maybe because they where so common here in the UK for many many years. Sadly loads gone now since the end of the Cold War.

      They are the same siren except broadmoor has solenoids on the air intakes to give the hi-lo sound

      They are NOT the same make. They are definitely not the same siren. The sound is the only thing that is Similar is the sound even that's not the same.

      New Zealand Fire Callout Sirens are standard, and must make the same sound nationwide - thus they will always use the same type of siren. If this one ever breaks, they will get a new one ( there is a company in Wellington that makes them).

      No, same tones, it is a two speed siren. Star Delta start 230/400 Volts

      Gerard Reijman In 2020 the whole sirene system in NL is going away. They are currently just loudspeakers in NL by the way. In the UK they still have the old skool air raid sirenes like this one.

    In my county we had a mostly volunteer system and we would set off all alarm Sirens at 12 noon on Saturday for a test

    I've been searching forever to see what happens in the fire station when the siren goes off. As if in what type of lever is pulled or button is pushed and the actual mechanism itself. I got so close with this video and you didn't even bother to show what the fuck he was doing behind that open cabinet door. Total fail!😲

    Also I know little about motors, but does it start up slow because you're starting on Y and running on delta? I forget the order, sorry

      Something like that, I can't remember either.

      If it's an old system, it will start on Y (lower voltage) and then go to Delta (higher voltage).
      If it has a soft start using power electronics, it probably runs on whatever.

      Yes, I put the old Nilsen controller relays back in, as after the switchboard upgrade the motor was started up in direct delta only.

      Let's see, based a little, on my American siren (and controllers) experience.... A receiver, a timer, motor starters(s), fuses, switches, and indicator lamps typically. The motors are between 5 and 10 HP, 230/400 ( 3ph 208-480/60Hz USA) three phase in most cases.

      Yep. Grifco made similar sirens up until their acquisition by Chamberlain, after which they entirely switched gears to making garage door openers...

      3 Phase. Star 3 x 230 Volts / Delta 3 x 400 Volts.
