These sirens on stations are used for fires, very rare for fire departments to use them for natural disasters or nuclear wars.

There were always 2 or 3 nights during the summer at 2:00 AM or 3:00 AM when these went off. We had no A/C, so we kept the windows open. Never could get back to sleep for a while. After the siren went down I always heard the trucks leaving the station. I miss those days.

I remember those days when we at are fire department use to set are off at noon Monday though Friday. I remember one day I was working at the fire station when it went off and the plaid guys told me we have a very big fire and jump on the back of engine 471 and your job was to take the hydrant. It was a very cold day and when we got close i realized that I was about to jump off and take the hydrant and the captain was there watching me doing it right now I told the fire truck to lay in and after I got all done the captain came up to me and told me he was happy with my job and now he wants me to scout up and help fight the fire. It was very big fire at a apartment fire.
