Johannes Eckerström explains the song: “Bloody Angel is about shame and guilt. You look around and watch all the suffering and while searching for someone or something to blame, you end up in front of the mirror.
Avatar are one of my favorite bands, if you continue down the rabbit hole you will learn that no song is the same by them. Avatar are unique and have a fantastic way always trying something different.
Welcome down the Avatar rabbit hole, I recommend their songs, "The Eagle Has Landed" , "Torn Apart", "A Statue Of The King". "The Dirt I'm Buried in" and "Let It Burn" (Live). But, whichever way you go, you have just discovered one of the most versatile and amazing Metal bands there is.
metal is a mirror. it's also a way to cope with the hard stuff. well done, Ken. you are really grasping why some of us love metal. thank you for your insight into the music and what it means.
I love how theatrical Avatar is with their music and videos. It's almost like the band is from another world and they're opening the curtain for us. Amazing musicianship and compositions too. I've listened to five of their albums at this point, and love all of them
Ken, you’re so right about what it means being a human caught in a system! You might want to break out, but alone it’s just not possible, so you do what you have to do to survive. On another note: Avatar are awesome, deeply rooted in the Gothenburg Sound, and still doing their thing. Love it.
Avatar are a truly unique & phenomenal band. Immense talent & creativity with all members. Johannes (singer) can do super low to super high, all in-between, growls, fry, etc). They've been around over 20 yrs & always keep things fresh. I do hope you'll check out more by them, esp anything live. A band my soulmate introduced me to is another I'd recommend.. Cattle Decapitation. (The name.. ikr?!). They are a bit heavier & harder, but address environmental & animal suffering issues.. our apathy & responsibility).❤️🤘
I've seen probably most of all Bloody Angel reactions out there, and yours stands out in that few others pick up so quickly (if at all) on the commentary on the, let's say blemishes, of and on human nature. Thoroughly great video!
I hope you will continue exploring this amazing band! With 9 albums under their belt, and the strength to go Independent after 8 of those, they are a band us die hard fans are now responsible for bringing them to the masses!
My favourite Band Seen them live this Month and it was fantastic. Waited two years to see them. As a girl i get asked a lot why i like metal and you nailed it as you said that metal shows the dark side of life. But it unites the metalhaeds around the World that we know we're in this togheter and we face it toghether
This and "Tower" are probably my favourite songs by them that I know. This song, because, well, you can already see, and "Tower" because it's so creepy and dark but also really thought provoking (it's about a toxic/abusive relationship from the abuser's point of view). And yes, that is why we love metal. It doesn't shy away from the darkness, but rather embraces it and reflects it back so that it can be understood. For me personally, metal music has really helped me learn more about myself and grow as a person. The power of metal on the psyche is incredible
Thank you very much for an excellent reaction. Many reactors for some reason just don't quite get the meaning of this song. You hit the nail on the head with taking responsibility for personal guilt, what ever that may be to each individual. The video just being one example. Again you got the meaning of the video too. Yes Johannes' voice is incredible in terms of having so many singing styles - i've lost count, all of them done well. Not only that, he is capable of really high notes (Going Hunting) and very low (So Sang The Hollow). Yes, metal music can be deep and can touch on various morals. Avatar are not afraid to do this, and also are not afraid to have fun (A Statue Of The King) if you would like some light hearted fun. Their stage performances are just as good as their videos, they put a lot into them.
Your comment on metal more less holding a mirror to societies potential darkness is a insight to your understanding of metal music. This coming from a long time metal fan. It’s appreciated.
Their scene on stage is extremely minimilastic, yet the stage never feels empty, they are all good at taking up space on scene, but the singer, Johannes is exceptional as a front man. Also i have been asking for avatar a few times i believe, do not want to spam comments with it, but i love you did a video on them!
Loving your wading into Metal! My favourite band is Gojira and I'd recommend Vacuity(contemplative, I think of it often in my fight against MS), Global Warming(fairly self evident) or Shooting Star(dealing with loss, was written while the mother of two members was fighting cancer and eventually lost her battle against it, always makes me think of my late Father when I hear it come on.)
Avatar's a really really fun band. This song is very dark and the music video is too, but they're a very flashy, theatrical band that's INCREDIBLE live! If you do any other songs by them, I HIGHLY recommend checking out a live performance. "The King Welcomes You To Avatar Country" is nice and upbeat, and their performance at Alcatraz 2019 is the best one, IMO. Country mixed with metal, by a Swedish band, lol.
just got to see them two nights ago for my birthday weekend, they are absolutely crazy. one of the best and most interactive bands i’ve seen and they genuinely care for the audience. they are incredible.
Oh, I've already commented. Well, here I go again! I would challenge you you find two songs of theirs that sound alike. Avatar is band of constant growth and critique themselves harshly on sounding too similar to what they've done before. In particular, their Live shows are fantastic. For an idea of their full spectrum: Hail The Apocalypse, Going Hunting, The King Welcomes You to Avatar Country, Torn Apart, A Secret Door. Inspired by Beethoven, The Beatles, Black Sabbath, Thin Lizzy and Devin Townsend (to name a few)
This one is the favorite fan's choice. The band always have very cinematic videos! This is a song about the NKVD (People's Commissariat for Internal Affairs; later known as KGB), how they sentenced millions to be executed or sent to Siberia to labour camps. "Bloody angel" is a NKVD officer who just approved one death of an "public enemy" after another. And the frontman of Avatar embodies the demon who haunts him in his mind. And as Johannes Eckerstrom said, ‘Bloody Angel’ is about shame and guilt. You look around and watch all the suffering and while you search for someone or something to blame, you end up in front of a mirror. Everything you touch, you break. Everyone you try to save you hurt and push further away. It is a sad reality of being alive, the fact that the closer you get, the more pain you risk inflicting. You try to stay in the light, spread your wings and aim for the sun. But your eyes and hands are covered in blood and you hit the ground, dragging everything that matters with you. The riff is pretty cool too." Interesting fact: Johan Carlen was inspired by Dogville and Manderlаy by Lars von Trier when building the scenery for the clip. For the first time, the band shoots their play separately. Just on a black backdrop. Check out Smells like a Freakshow, New Land, The Great Pretender (official video not on official page for some reason), Going Hunting, Night Never Ending, Vultures Fly, Tower, Construction of Souls. Black Waters, Scream Until you Wake, In Napalm, Child, Legend of the King, Wormhole.
I love metal...but not "cookie monster" vocals. My husband got me into Avatar..and I have enjoyed the ride. The Eagle Has Landed is my favorite Avatar song. Johannes is all character....awesome to see live! Granted I love the songs Johannes sings more...but what can you expect from a 2nd alto choir nerd. Rob Halford Is my metal singer love. Just found your page...do some Judas Priest..If you have I apologize. gotta look into the archives. Dickison Iron Maiden. Even Sebastian Bach is an amazing singer...
I'm not that into Avatar but I keep coming back to this specific song... I think it's brilliant in so many ways. ps. you might want to check out Fleshgod Apocalypse - The day we'll be gone (acoustic)..... it's a beautiful song in so many ways.
I really admire your analysis of that metal music has the ability to hold up human nature, the deepest darkest versions of our minds, into the light. 'Cause it's true. This song is about shame and guilt, blame and judgement. Look in the mirror and who do you see, who are you hurting? Besides that I actually love the fact that even the dog leaves the man (for visual storytelling purposes). Since dogs are often symbols of being a man's best friend and showing unconditional love, knowing no hate nor malice. What a message, not even the dog can stand the man he's become...
I suggest Jonathan youngs metal covers of poor unfortunate souls (the little mermaid), his covers of the plagues and deliver us with Caleb hyles (prince of Egypt covers)
Please check out the live one take performance of the band “monuments” and the song is called “cardinal red.” It’s one take live vocal performance and the songs is incredible.
Hey, i have seen alot of your reviews and i like your style. Music is good to my ears no matter what genre. Metal at heart but aslong it catches and moves me. Now i have a wish for a reaction and i dont Get why There is such a low reaction on Trevor Morris (composer) and Einar Selvik the lead. (Wardruna) Viking Suite is a must. Would love to hear your reaction on the piece🤘😊
My suggestion is a bit of a newer band that is really interesting and definetly Deserves more attention And that is Tallah and Especially their Song-Shaken (not stirred) Justin is an absolute beast of a vocalist and I would really like to see your reaction to him

Exactly! Metal will tackle any subject, even those most want to ignore or deny.
Avatar is extremely underrepresented
metal is a mirror. it's also a way to cope with the hard stuff. well done, Ken. you are really grasping why some of us love metal. thank you for your insight into the music and what it means.
Couldn't have said it better.

They are really fun to see live! I'm a sucker for theatrical bands.
@@deed5811they are on tour right now, just saw them in San Diego tonight!
@@papaskazoo5860 I've seen them 3 times 😃
Great that you explore different genres :)

Yes! Cattle Decap is amazing. Scourge of the Offspring is on heavy rotation.

Favorite moment 🤔. The whole video! But 11:26 sequence. The disgust and disappointment of Johannes' stare packs a punch. "You did this!"
This and "Tower" are probably my favourite songs by them that I know. This song, because, well, you can already see, and "Tower" because it's so creepy and dark but also really thought provoking (it's about a toxic/abusive relationship from the abuser's point of view).

The live version of this is amazing!
I saw avatar live a couple of months ago can confirm they were amazing 🤘🏼
Your comment on metal more less holding a mirror to societies potential darkness is a insight to your understanding of metal music. This coming from a long time metal fan. It’s appreciated.
I love Avatar. My favourite from the is A Secret Door. It has Corey Taylor in it too. Would be fun to see you try to learn growls and screams :D
Good choice!
Their scene on stage is extremely minimilastic, yet the stage never feels empty, they are all good at taking up space on scene, but the singer, Johannes is exceptional as a front man.

i see Avatar i click like!
saw this live on norway rock a few years back, he stood out from the rest of the artists, his voice was so clean!
More Avatar. Can I suggest Going Hunting.

Great song - great reaction👍
Appreciate the depth in your interpretation. They give quite the performace on stage. Quite the fascinating band.
Avatar is my absolute favorite
Avatar is incredible and so so underrated! I think they have the ability to make it big in America. The whole band is so immensely talented.
Hi, great reaction! But if you really want to hear the singer's ability, you should check the live version!
Just in the last 2 weeks started checking these guys out. Man they are absolutely killer. They Just Stole The Show.😊😊😊

the video is really intense
until the end with the dog's tongue flopping out

I feel like the dog symbolizes the hound of hell
Hey Ken! Love that Avatar gets highlighted on YOUR channel! Thanks
This is best reaction I see this far. Thank you 😊
I suggest Jonathan youngs metal covers of poor unfortunate souls (the little mermaid), his covers of the plagues and deliver us with Caleb hyles (prince of Egypt covers)
The cool thing with this song is that it does not follow the standard verse, chorus, verse chorus.. structure that most somgs follow...
Please check out the live one take performance of the band “monuments” and the song is called “cardinal red.” It’s one take live vocal performance and the songs is incredible.
Do a reaction to the band Warrant, they have great ballads, such as Sometimes she cries, I saw red, Heaven, Bitter pill, Blind faith
Please react to Motionless in White! Great metalcore band. Maybe "Voices" or "Reincarnate" live🤘
Hey, i have seen alot of your reviews and i like your style. Music is good to my ears no matter what genre. Metal at heart but aslong it catches and moves me. It's kinda, sad that that you did not go with the live version. The video is ok, the live version is epic😊
Next reaction VOB "ENTER SANDMAN "Metalica cover VOB BAND TRIO HIJABERS from 🇮🇩 VOB consert LIVE AT FRANCE. TRANS MUSICALES DE RENNES 2021👍
I think its a weird that vocalist reaction channels have missed La Dispute. I guess everyone just forgot about them.
Next reaction VOB "GOD ALLOW ME PLEASE TO PLAY MUSIC"_ 'MV VOB BAND ROCK TRIO HIJABERS from 🇮🇩 VOB AMAZING super talented ♥️🤟
Check out skynd Richard Ramirez video
How have you not reacted to Dream Theater.
I wonder if the dog represents the nazis since Hitler famously favoured German Shepherds
I think of it as a sign of loyalty that the Person lost as the dog is leaving the scene. As if like his dark side is displayed to the publik
I thought this was a vocal analysis not a philosophy analysis....
This song has nothing to do with the "holocaust"
Mary month of metal you say? Soilwork is a must!:
When Sound Collides
Nerve
Stabbing the Drama
Spectrum of Eternity
Antidotes in Passing
The Windswept Mercy
There, you have choices lol.
And FYI Metalocalypse = BRUTAL
