Started my house plants collection and the peace lily is my favorite so far. I’ve also started full gardening. I come to RUclips to get pointers, and that’s how I found your channel. New subscriber. Peace sista and Happy growing. Asé
Great video! I use a few drops of dishwashing soap and water on my peace lilies when they get like this. I doesn't hurt the plant at all and if you have any bugs in the soil they will leave.
I use the same method and really does wonders to my plants that struggling . You done a great job explaining it here . I’m sure this will help to everyone trying to find answer to a problem . Thank you
Shinobi Style I haven’t read that book, but reminds me with tears on my eyes about my little Yorkie that passed years ago, she died in the mouth of a chow chow... I had a very nice plant in my living room, my little Czarina used to go every day to smell the plant and to take a nap next to it... she liked that spot, several times during those years she managed to bring me next to the plant to show me it needed water. When Czarina died, my plant died too
More dirt is needed in the big one. I noticed when you were cleaning the small one the entire root ball was moving. This means the root ball is bound up. They need to stay moist but they do not like to sit in water. Try some worm castings to top off those pots. Bright indirect only. I am going to try out this peroxide method. Ty for sharing. Also on the big one, clip off all the leaf stems that are bent/creased. Will be a drastic cutting, but will be worth while.
Thanks! Miriam is thriving now. She finally put up two blooms after 1.5 years. I did end up cutting her back significantly along with the peroxide treatment. She came back nice and strong!🌿😊
WOW I’m very impressed with you and your personality, you were born to do what you do, it’s amazing how pleasant you are and the gift of taking people throughout your presentation, I congratulate you!!! I will try the peroxide today...
Try a coco muir mixed compost - it’s lighter and airy. Also put plant in shaded area/ not direct light. I used hydrogen peroxide a lot on my orchids and cinnamon to stop fungus infections. Very easy listening to you👍🏿
Helpful video, thank you for sharing. one thing I did see I want to make aware of your attention is if you look starting at 12:45-12:48 IF I'm not tripping and it wasn't something different I think I saw a little insect/bug when you moved the soil around with your hand. it was tiny and on the right side of the screen. I replayed it a few time to make sure lol. Maybe that's an issue?
My peace lily (like your grandfather's) lives in a south-facing window. I let it get dry before giving a big watering from Below. Its in a really big planter and is huge. I got it in 2004. Puts out flowers (white lilys) often. Good luck on that plant. P.S. About once a year I stick several food spikes in the soil.
How is your peace lily doing if you have it in a south-facing window how far from the window is it right in front of it or to the side I have an overhang like I small porch out there right the sun is hitting the Venetian blinds I have a new one I put in the back which is a north-facing window and I have it across the room they are patio doors lots of light comes in
@@sheliaglover565 I just put it in a bigger planter. So far, doing real well. It's right in front of the window, but there is about a 4 foot overhang there from the porch. So, no direct sun but very bright in the winter. My window covering is white sheers (no other shades or curtains).
I usually use bamboo skewers to poke holes in the dirt all around... kind of like lawn aeration. I have never used peroxide but I will give it a try when I prune away old dead growth. Thanks for tip.
I use hydrogen peroxide in my everyday water blend. I take two quarts of filtered water using a Brita filter. Add about 1/3 cup of 3% hydrogen peroxide, 1 drop of API Tap Water Conditioner, 1 drop of peppermint oil, and 4 ml of Bloom City Silica Boost. Every 2 weeks or so I add macro & micro nutrients, consisting of: 1/4 tsp of Purived fertilizer, & 1 ml of Superthrive 'Vitamin Solution with kelp'
Hello I loved your video and I really want to try it but I have a gnat infestation in my soil of all my girls!!!! I got some sticky things from Amazon that got rid of 90% of them but their still flying around every now and again. I have to still take care of them!!! WHAT DO I DO????????
Thank you! You may need to remove the plants from their pots, rinse the roots clean, disinfect the pots (white vinegar and water) and add fresh soil to repot them in. Add plant rocks or orchid bark on top of the soil once reported. That should help!👊🏾
OMG this video is totally on time. My peace lily is doing the exact same thing. I have been racking my brain to figure out what is happening. I will use the same process tomorrow
Hello thanks for sharing. When you poured the last of your mixture on the first plant’s leaves you can see bugs crawling in your soil. Not sure if you caught that. May be part of the issue. Around 13:40 of the video.
Hello, wonderful video. Thank you so much for it. I have over 200 houseplants and one of my leaf babies "variegated peace lily" is browning like yours are. I have repotted it in nutrient-rich soil. Using distilled water to water. Your grandfather's plant is a peace lily as well. It could maybe use a larger pot. Definitely do not water it with tap water. There are chemicals and salt in the tap water that that variety does not like. Even if you leave your tap water out overnight it will help dissipate the chlorine but not the fluoride or salts. My spider plants don't like the tap water either. I am going to try your peroxide tip and hopefully it will work.
What about the leaves that are black? Are you just removing the dead part or cutting the entire leaf out? I can see because your hand was in the way as you were cutting.
I'm going to try this with my piece lillies. I've had them for 9 months (since my mother's passing). I'm trying to save them cause they mean so much to me. Thank you!
Can I use this treatment to get rid of any fungus nats before they start. I have a few plants that I potted with miracle grow and I’m hearing that’s basically a host for nats. I want to stop before they start, just want to make sure it won’t harm my plants.
With the right measurements, it won’t harm your plants. Miracle Grow isn’t my fav for that reason among others. I’d repost them in different soil and see if that helps.
Mosquito bits are effective against fungus gnats. For prevention, sprinkle a few on the surface and make sure you hit them when you water. If you already have an infestation, also soak some bits in the water before you water the plant. After a few days, you’ll notice that the numbers are dropping as no new generations of gnats can develop to adulthood.
Yes that's mold but also it could be low level radon problem. My peace lilies died in a home that had low radon...thanks for the video love and light to you❤️🧡
Well water it’s normally hard water but not necessarily in that means there’s minerals in that water which is probably good for your reply. But what about food you don’t seem to mention what type of food do you feed your plan. Now don’t they need food for the plants? My plants do. Miracle grows is pretty good you know you don’t need a lot but plants do need food. Just a thought. Also soil can become stale or sour. Perhaps transfer the plants into breathable fiber pots. Breathable fiber pots are very good for providing oxygen to the roots and for the water to drain out pulling fresh air in. A good and thorough dry out before you water again and you may not like the way the fiber pot looks but set it inside of a decorative pot large enough to allow air between pots.
Another great point is that New York water is some of the best water available anywhere it’s very clean and fresh it comes from far up north from Canada somewhere but it’s very good water very good tasting it’s probably missing that water like another commentor stated and to go from that water to well water what a bummer.
Hey! I’m aware of the quality of NYC water, I was raised on it. I feed them during the growing season, natural fertilizers. I’ve avoided Miracle Grow as it has been nothing but a “gnat magnet” for my plants. No bueno!
I recently divided and replanted my peace Lily. I think I accidentally over watered it and it has never fully dried out (5 wk). Can I use the hydrogen peroxide trick on this or should I repot it with fresh soil and water it with the hydrogen peroxide mix? Thanks for your tips, love your videos! Also I looked for your soil video but couldn't find it and was unable to connect to your channel.
Hey there! Allow it to completely dry out before watering it again. 5 weeks is a long time for the soil to still be moist? Maybe moving the plant to a fuller sun spot will help it to dry out faster? Once it’s’ addy then you can assess how to move forward.
Loved this video and your whole vibe. I just subscribed! I've been hearing about hydrogen peroxide. Its time for me to give it a try with a few of my plants this weekend. Thank you!
It's Grandpa plant is 5 years old I would try to gently half the size of that container and get it out of there it may be root bound I need a larger container I read that peace lilies live 3 to 5 years but I think with good care maybe longer I use hydrogen peroxide in a spray bottle and missed my leaves and stems I didn't think about putting it down into the dirt
Thank you soooo much for this tip. I wish i knew this before i had to give my Africian Violets away to save their life. They did not like my east exposure in my apt by the heating strips. But I am thankful i found you for my other plants .I have a little mini orchid who is okay but i worry when i put the heat on.Thank you very much for sharing. You make plant care look easy.I just subscribed to your channel 👍.
Thank you! I’m glad you’re here🤗 If you can, move the plants away from direct exposure to the heat. It’s too much for them. I learned that the hard way! I basically cooked my fittonia to death🥺
Have you fertilized? There are some discolorations that are called iron cholrosus.. (msp) like yellowing. It was quick but there are other causes. You can calla garden center and they may help you.
Thanks for the video. It was very informative. I’m curious to see a followup. I have a suggestion about the larger plant. If it has been in that plastic container for at least 4 years it must be root bound. I would suggest to transfer to a more porous planter and give it healthier soil. Do you talk to your plants? I do. They just smile back at me....
Thank you, I’ll have to try it because I have the same problem with a peace Lilly the previous owner of our home gave me when we closed on our house 2 yrs ago. Stay safe
Hello.IT's noted peace lillies life is only 3 yrs.Yet I'v seen this one of papa's and orhers .Also have u considered repoting papa's P Lillie. It's size is @ it's level and if he haz roots outside his pot think about it and add some fresh soil to him.😊😊😊
I’d first check the soil thoroughly. If it’s all good, then the plant will be fine. Repotting too often can harm the plants roots, so only do so when absolutely necessary. After summer it’s not uncommon for little critters to make a home in the soil. H2O2 can help or some other treatments for bugs in the soil. Hope this helps🤗
Thank you very much for your response my peace lily has never been repotted it was from my móms funeral last year I think it needs to be repotted. I think it's pot bound.
Great question! Certainly a possibility given what’s been known to be in tap water in some places. Maybe try a filter on your faucet or use distilled water if an option for you?
Hey!🤗 He had a regular LED bulb on it. For a while after bringing it here I had a grow light on it. Now she gets regular daylight from a north facing window.
Drying/withering leaves is normal stage in plant's life. The first leaves areval set to dry up. So there must really be regular clean up/pruning plus regular watering for space to grow and show its beauty. H2O2+H2O treatment is for worst case maybe and is for the soil not the plants?
Guess what, I use the hydrogen peroxide on a angel wing begonia that all of sudden was plagued with mildew. My plant is presently clear since 4 days now. I'm considering using the treatment with the next watering. What do you suggest?
Safia McCants That’s great news! I suggest using the treatment every other watering as you don’t want to overwhelm the plant. How often do you water your begonia?
Those are some rough looking sheers. You need to get some sand paper and clean them up. Skip the soap and water and just swab them with alcohol, let dry. Better yet get some new ones.
I searched for a video and among many, just happened to click on yours - so very glad I did too! Darlin', you don't need "4 hands" - you did a great job filming this and explaining this treatment. Thank you very much. I have herbs growing in my kitchen window and they look sad. Doing this tonight! I tried to find your update on your peace lily but can not find it. Can you help me see how yours have done please?
keepercreek Awww shucks! Thank you! Update coming this Saturday. Life has been a bit wonky these past couple of months so I apologize for the delay. Check back Saturday. Take care of those plant babies!🥰
Hi love. Hi Beautiful lili. I would say she is sad, another person, another state. Think about it. Talk to her about the transition and him why she is not there and that you will love her and care for now like to a person. She will thrive beautifully 🥰
If you live by Atlanta, you probably live with air conditioning on much of the year. Could it be that the plant can't stand cold, dry air? Your pruning shears need sharpening. Mine too.
Hello niece I beat my name is Zinnia. I tried this is on my plants and it worked I was so happy I'm a new gardener and I know I have ways to go but cuz of y'all videos is teaching me a lot so thank you. P.S. Grow some zinnia"s lol I also have a new channel
I am new to your channel. I have some house plants. Seems like most of my house plants are not doing well and have stunted growth. It has been really cold winter here in Canada. Its March now . My money tree plant keeps getting yellow and falling leaves. Most of the yellow leaves I had to remove or fell on their own. I love this plant . Feel sad because now it's almost barren. Same thing happened with my Enterium plant I changed their potting soil . Still it did not help. I will try to water with hydrogen peroxide and see it that helps. Thank you for sharing the helpful suggestions . Do you have any suggestions for my dying plants?
I add 2 oz. per quart for all my tomato and cucumber plants. I use to use copper sulfate on my outdoor plats, but I found that the hydrogen peroxide does a much better job, and its a lot safer than using many of the dangerous chemicals used in many of the big boxed stores. I found that hydrogen peroxide is all I need to get rid of the blights on many of my outside food crops. I think your a little light on the peroxide to water ratio!!
Since this was way back in 2019 I know you have solved this and moved on. However, it really looked like overwatering. Try a moisture meter because it will show you moisture levels deeper than the normal 4 to 6 inches that feeling the soil will show. Hydrogen Peroxide is excellent for plants so you had it going right there too........:)
Hi. New to your channel. Love peace lily plants. In the fall can you do a video on transitioning plants from the outside? I removed a plant from the outside pot. Blanched, sprayed, and repotted it. Still had knat-like bugs into February.

Asiyah's Plant Life Thank you and God Bless🙏
I watched your channel and I tried this on my peace lily an they turned black & yellow. Did I killed them?
Very informative video. I have two plants that aren't thriving, I think I may have over watered. I'm going to try this and see if it helps.
Teresa C Overwatering is def tough to gauge with some plants. Try this method and see if it helps. Good luck 😊
Have you fertilized? There are some discolorations that are called iron cholrosus.. (msp) like yellowing. It was quick but there are other causes. You can calla garden center and they may help you.
Thanks. Plant is much better now.
Hi,greeting from the Philippines..Thanks for sharing.☺️
Hello in the Philippines! Thanks for watching🥰
Gonna try this cuz my plants do not have bugs and the leaves are brown so I am gonna ty this ! Thanks
Yay! I hope it works for you.
So SOOOO happy you made this video!! My peace lily has been doing the same thing... Do you have updates on how this plant is doing?
Thanks for watching. Take a look at the update ruclips.net/video/0Rno-bB9NXA/видео.html
Thank you. I've repotted Miriam (larger plant) and she is doing well. Here is a video update: ruclips.net/video/0Rno-bB9NXA/видео.html
Thank you, I’ll have to try it because I have the same problem with a peace Lilly the previous owner of our home gave me when we closed on our house 2 yrs ago. Stay safe
You stay safe as well. I hope your plant baby gets better soon.🌿
My peace lilys did the same thing. They also have horrible white mushrooms growing in them. Did the peroxide eventually work?
Hello.IT's noted peace lillies life is only 3 yrs.Yet I'v seen this one of papa's and orhers .Also have u considered repoting papa's P Lillie. It's size is @ it's level and if he haz roots outside his pot think about it and add some fresh soil to him.😊😊😊
Thanks. She’s doing much better now. Check out the update!🙌🏾
Yasssss queen, new subscriber 👑 thanks for the informative vid 🌿🌱💕
This plant needs a larger pot and a reasonably humid environment without too much direct sunlight.
Issues resolved. Thank you.
I keep my plants outsides in the summer should I change soil before bringing inside and adding peroxide mixture?
I’d first check the soil thoroughly. If it’s all good, then the plant will be fine. Repotting too often can harm the plants roots, so only do so when absolutely necessary. After summer it’s not uncommon for little critters to make a home in the soil. H2O2 can help or some other treatments for bugs in the soil. Hope this helps🤗
Thank you very much for your response my peace lily has never been repotted it was from my móms funeral last year I think it needs to be repotted. I think it's pot bound.
Do you think it’s that peace lilies are sensitive to tap water? I can’t give my spider plants tap water, but my other plants are fine.
Great question! Certainly a possibility given what’s been known to be in tap water in some places. Maybe try a filter on your faucet or use distilled water if an option for you?
Thank you! But when you say your grandpa had a spotlight on the peace lily do you mean like to grow cannabis or just a regular light on it?
Hey!🤗 He had a regular LED bulb on it. For a while after bringing it here I had a grow light on it. Now she gets regular daylight from a north facing window.
@@AsiyahsPlantLife thank you. I only have a lemongrass plant and citronella. Im getting pathos this week though.
Drying/withering leaves is normal stage in plant's life. The first leaves areval set to dry up. So there must really be regular clean up/pruning plus regular watering for space to grow and show its beauty.
H2O2+H2O treatment is for worst case maybe and is for the soil not the plants?
**are all set
Thanks! The treatment worked just fine and the plant is thriving.
You are doing great. Good job.
Can I use this method on my knockout rose bush that’s outside?
I don’t see why you can’t. Have you tried compost tea or epsom salt?
Guess what, I use the hydrogen peroxide on a angel wing begonia that all of sudden was plagued with mildew. My plant is presently clear since 4 days now. I'm considering using the treatment with the next watering. What do you suggest?
Safia McCants That’s great news! I suggest using the treatment every other watering as you don’t want to overwhelm the plant. How often do you water your begonia?
I watered my begonia some time every 7 to 10 days depending if the soil is dry.
She will thrive beautifully
🥰
Thank you🥰
Do you need to let them dry completely before starting the water/hydrogen peroxide treatment? 💜
Yes! Absolutely!👊🏾
Is there holes in the bottom os your brown pot?
Yes
Thanks for this video, where to buy it from?
You’re welcome. You can by H2O2 from any drug store, pharmacy, Dollar Tree, Walmart, Target, etc. Pretty much anywhere!🙌🏾
Very same thing happrning to my plants right now. Super thanks sweet heart ❤️❤️❤️
Thanks for watching 👍🏾
WOW! Bless You! I needed too know this... Thanks allot for sharing!
Thanks for watching. Be well🙏🏾
So if I have white fungus on a rose bush in planter I can spray leaves with this mixture?
Yes! I learned about this treatment from an outdoor gardener. Try it and see how your plants respond. 😊
Good video 👍
Thank you!😊
Please show us the update of the Peroxide treatment! Thank you!
Here’s the update! Thanks for watching 🥰 ruclips.net/video/0Rno-bB9NXA/видео.html
I’ll be trying this soon. Update to come
This is interesting. Do you always remove dead leaves, or do you let them provide nitrogen back to the soil?
Hi! Yes! I remove them. They’re great for compost but for this video I removed them and moved forward with the treatment, they weren’t composted.
So glad I found your channel! Great info!
Thanks! Glad you’re here!🤗
If you live by Atlanta, you probably live with air conditioning on much of the year. Could it be that the plant can't stand cold, dry air? Your pruning shears need sharpening. Mine too.
Thanks. We’re no longer in Atlanta and the plant is doing beautifully! 🌿
Hello niece I beat my name is Zinnia. I tried this is on my plants and it worked I was so happy I'm a new gardener and I know I have ways to go but cuz of y'all videos is teaching me a lot so thank you. P.S. Grow some zinnia"s lol I also have a new channel
zinnia young Hey welcome! Thanks for sharing! Glad your plant baby is feeling better! 😍
Asiyah's Plant Life hello. I’m new to ur video. I love ur knowledge and voice. I’ll be watching u now!!
Awesome thanks
May I ask which ratio did you use?
Does this work for root rot?
No!
Root rot? Or did you check?
Since this was way back in 2019 I know you have solved this and moved on. However, it really looked like overwatering. Try a moisture meter because it will show you moisture levels deeper than the normal 4 to 6 inches that feeling the soil will show. Hydrogen Peroxide is excellent for plants so you had it going right there too........:)
Thanks! Problem solved.
Hi. New to your channel. Love peace lily plants. In the fall can you do a video on transitioning plants from the outside? I removed a plant from the outside pot. Blanched, sprayed, and repotted it. Still had knat-like bugs into February.
Welcome and thank you!🤗 I certainly will. Placing a layer of small rocks on top of the soil will help get rid of the gnats.
