    I’m glad you have mentioned about the starting chains shrinking up once the stitch is worked. It’s a super helpful tip for beginners to know.
    Lots of beginner tutorials don’t mention about the fact that chaining in your multiples doesn’t guarantee your work to be that width once the stitches are worked depending on the stitches.
    I remember when I started years and years ago doing a chevron blanket and it turned out so much smaller. I wasn’t told the peaks and valleys would change the end result. I was so upset. I didn’t let it go to waste though, I turned it into a pillow for my daughter to take camping lol 😂
    Great video.

    Another interesting effect in making this particular Jacob's Ladder pattern: first make sure you plan for an odd number of vertical columns. Work the body of the fabric in the same way as the instructions. However then...
    1) loop and twist the odd-numbered columns from bottom to top
    2) loop and twist the even-numbered columns from top to bottom
    3) complete the top and bottom "border" rows, alternating the manner in which the loops are anchored
    The color interest is that the loops change direction every other row.

    I watched my mom crochet a big white blanket with faux cables and Jacob's ladders when I was seven. I was so sad this last year when i found out she didn't have it anymore. I guess a twenty three year old white blanket might not be so white anymore.

    I want to know if I may ask your advice. I'm busy with a scarf and I want to know how long is the standard size for a scarf. I always make it to short or to long. I'm very sorry if I over step to ask you this but I straggled with the length. Thank you for helping and hope I don't over step. ❤🧡💛💚💙💜🦴🦴

    • @AlisonRussellsCrochetChannel
      @AlisonRussellsCrochetChannel  3 года назад

      course your not overstepping do the chain bit TWICE as wide as you need it. The length is not affected just the width it starts out and how much it pulls in when finished so if you want a scarf 10inches wide do your ladder part 20 inches wide it should be around the 10 inch when all looped up. As for the length try googling average scarf length and work your to that length that should give you a length you would buy in the shops and should not be too long or too short.

      its much quicker with both you still have to loop the loops so doing a chain is much quicker to crochet then just twist and loop together, i did it slower to show beginners how to loop them, when your on your own you can really do this quick.
