Great reel!! I have seven of them for about five years now as well, I have one 30 ,four 40b and two 55b, I've got tons of fish on all of them with zero issues and zero failures mostly freshwater blue cats and channel catfish and plenty of nice stripers I have them all paired with ugly stick catfish rods just can't beat them as an incredible combo!!
I have an Okuma ABF-65 (6500 size reel) that needs a new rod for it. What rod in the 10.6' - 11' Medium Heavy/Fast Action range would you recommend for it? I'm targeting large striped bass and bluefish in NY Harbor, Raritan Bay, Sandy Hook, and either shore of Long Island. Since this is a budget class reel, I was thinking an Ugly Stik Big Water or Penn Prevail. I think the $200 - $300 class of rods like the Tsunami SaltX and Airwave; the lower end Lamis (Insane and Carbon Surf); Penn Carnage II, and the Tica Dolphins are a bit overkill for this reel. I'd put a Penn Slammer on one of those more costly rods.
Yah, I think the ugly Stiks or Penns would work great! We don’t have bluefish where I’m from, but for the striper I would definitely focus on what kind of fishing your doing. If your throwing bait, then use a little more moderate action rod. If your throwing big plugs then I’d want something a little faster. Check out the Bass Pro Offshore angler Breakwater rods as well, those r prices well and work awesome. I have a review of those on my channel as well. Hope this helps🤟🏽
Yah, it will work for sure. Like I said however, the salt has had a decent amount of corrosion in the reel, so wash them out thoroughly after each use!
How's the anti-reverse feature on the real? The reason I ask is everybody always spends the handle during the review with that turned off. Does this have a dead stop anti-reverse like for example; Shimano?
The anti-reverse is a continuous spin, and from I'm seeing right now the reel does not engage the bite and run feature when flipped to it. Not beneficial at all, but honestly the anti-reverse is slowly being phased out by many reel companies so I wouldn't be surprised to see the next model (whenever it comes out) to not include one. Hope this helps!
Just ordered a 40 size off Amazon for $40! It’s replacing a sharky 111 bait feeder that sheared off half the reel handle lugs after 3 weeks of use and 15 small freshwater drum.
@@humbugvideos Received it last night. It’s leaps and bounds better in quality than the sharky bait runner mechanically. The sharky looked a lot nicer cosmetically and wound smoother. The sharky reminded me of all my old girlfriends…judged a book by its cover. All the skeletons come out of the closet quickly on the Sharky. Lol. Looks like a super model on the outside and crappy on the inside.
The 4000 would work for sure, especially with like some 30lb braid. For bread are u talking about bait? I prefer fresh cut bait, especially if it’s the same baitfish that are in that body of water!
Wonderful presentation skills for a young man! I see a successful career ahead of you in whatever field you choose. In terms of gear, for overall build quality and durability would you recommend Avenger or Ceymar?
@@humbugvideos I fish mainly for carp. What I did today was just adjust my drag and that worked fine. I thought in one of your comments you alluded to Ceymar being built better? Also any thoughts of Ceymar vs Shimano Sienna 4000?
@@gerryb8879 Not a fan of the sienna, the avenger and Ceymar are both built well tho. For carp that bite and run would work wayyy better. I would also check out the Diawa regal, that’s a popular carp reel too.
@@humbugvideos haha, I actually have the Regal but in 2500. Its a smooth reel. I'm just getting into fishing and am looking for another budget reel. So far it's between Avenger and Ceymar. Thanks! Just found your channel today- I'll sub
On the surf for striper there’s a whole variety of stuff to use. I’d start out with a big plug (diawa sp minnow, Lucky craft, etc.) then switch to bait (sand crabs, pile worms, sand shrimp) if the bites tough. Hope this helps!
@@lincolnjohnson5129 I’m not sure off the top of my head, but anytime u need line capacity specs just go on their website. U can find model, size, and exactly how much it can hold to the feet. Plus they give weight, gear ratio, and a whole bunch of other stuff
@@humbugvideos couldn't find anything but I determined that since 20lb braid is pretty much the same diameter as 8lb mono, I found that I could put about 285 of braid on it Thanks for the help though
I just picked up a ABF 6000 series for my 7' medium heavy pole. Switched from a 3000 series penn reel. Those bat rays destroyed that reel so its time to upgrade.
It would work, but it’s mainly for fish that need to hold onto the bait for awhile, thus the bite and run feature. I’d go with something more along the lines of an Okuma Ceymar or a Shimano Sedona in this price range👍🏽
Great bait runner reels it's too bad the handles bend on any striper over 40 inches. Drag seems amazing for the price and smooth but they need to hold up to big fish.
The okuma Coronado is better actually better quality then shimano for way less trust I love my shimanos that’s all I own but when I look at a Coronado I’m like babe you looking sexy
Thanks for explaining the details of these reels and how they're used. Good video

They go so well with ugly sticks!
Just bought the 65b and a 10' Big water ugly stick can't wait to take it out. Sweet review brother 👍👍
Go catch some big boys with it!
@DaddyDog How has it gone with the rod and reel combo?? I just bought an 8ft catfish pole and am considering the 65b.
Is this good for float fishing? Would it be a small enough resistance for the drag from the bobber to take it downstream?
@@LightSpinAngler It would be good, but I’d get a normal reel if u don’t need the dual drag
This reel was suggested to me for a heavy duty catfish reel, glad to see this video (60/65 size)

Think this reel in the 55 or 65 size will handle a good sized live sardine for bigger saltwater fish?
Yah, it will work for sure. Like I said however, the salt has had a decent amount of corrosion in the reel, so wash them out thoroughly after each use!

I’ve heard iffy reviews on that sharky reel, typically stay with the big brands. You’ll love this one!
