There is no "old school Eminem". "Old school rap" is the term for REALLY old rap music from the late 70s and very early 80s. It has a distinctive flow, which was much simpler, than anything that came later. Also the styles of the different MCs from that early era of rap music were very similiar to each other. Eminem is from the late phase of the so called "golden age" of rap (late 80 to early 2000s). So there is nothing "old school" about Eminem, as there have been rap records for about 20 years already, when he released his first album. Everyone at school listened to him. and when my mom heard the lyrics she was just like oh.. you probably shouldn’t hear that but too late now lol she heard mockingbird first and thought it was okay
No one else can ever do what this man has done, serious or comical. He said it best in the song Rain Man: "I ain't even gotta make no GD sense, I just did a whole song and I didn't say s**t"
This came out when I was in middle school, and yes, every single parent alive at the time despised Eminem lol. Everything was all about protecting the kids was "inappropriate" music. He was seen as this absolutely terrible influence, CDs confiscated, videos banned. So of course, all us kids loved him. Everyone loves to root for a nuisance :)
It made sense at the time that they tried to sensor him. When he came out he attacked everyone that was big at the time, Britney, Christina, Limp bizkit, Everlast, politicians. Talked about killing, homosexuality, all the opposite of what anyone was writing. Rappers were all about money, clothing and chicks at that time. Manson was getting huge for how off the wall he was but he was mainly anti-religious and not near as big of a genre that what Eminem was in. Times changed fast when Em came out.
That's Eminem in the wig dressed as his mom and his half brother next to him. His brother appeared in a few of his videos. Em crazy funny man. Big fan of him. I love that he's always acting in his videos.
Without trying to get TOO DEEP ~ Em chose to rap with very little ego and comedy to replace it(plus he's got natural poet talent). People appreciate the clown/the fool because they aren't trying to impress with bullshit - they are clever & mischievous - relatable; Em is The Loki of Rap.
Yo I listen to rap threw out my 90’s. I was born in 81’. Eminem came out I was like hell yeah 👍. I worked in a food distribution warehouse. I was a truck loader when this came out. I was rocking to this one night when Sid came up on his forklift. He looked at me (350+black friend) and started doing the head Node I smiled and jumped in. Just like this video 👍👍👍🔥👍👍
I was 200 or so built from loading trucks and working out to. He needed to move one time. Just one story. He came to me and then 3 others. We all show up. The 3 others were we drinking having fun. Did and I were loading stuff. FYI. Sid never should’ve turned the tv on
Born in 81 here too. Crazy haha. I miss nothing more than the 90s. I was more into rock and everything but honestly loved hip hop in the 90s too man. Everything was better. Everything
I never thought about the camera angle in the car - hilarious! lol A great observation! "He's a fool" truth- fool in the vein of the zero of the Tarot.
It’s amazing that Dre saw past him being white, a white rapper was unheard of. Even more today, many people wouldn’t look past his color and would just want to cancel him for “cultural appropriation” if he didn’t already cement himself as a legend.
People been trying to cancel em since his first album. "Have you ever been hated and discriminated against? I have, I've been protested and demonstrated against. Pickett signs for the wicked rhymes.." he had every group in america coming after him lol Edit: watch the video for White America, he talks about how he came onto the scene in that song
Loved ems early songs and videos, he was so funny and it was good to see an artist not take himself too seriously!!!! The Osama bit was hilarious, love your laugh Asia, great reaction guys.
Utter brilliance that's still funny and witty today. The whole comic book visual style of the clip is a riff on the '60s comedy TV show Batman, which itself had a comic book visual style . He's dressed as Batman's sidekick Robin, the Boy Wonder, kind of a reference to the way he was perceived at the time. The whole tv show was high camp with lots of guest appearances/cameos from big stars of the day. He even does a little musical reference to the Batman theme when he sings " n.a. n.a. n.a. n.a. n.a. n.a. n.a. n.a...." One of the catch phrases in the tv series, which he references a number of times, is " ...this looks like a job for Batman..." Much of the action in the TV series features the Batmobile. In the clip he and Dre are like Batman and Robin in the Batmobile. Do yourself a favour and watch the TV series. It was groundbreaking at the time with the high camp humour and Pop Art/comic book aesthetic.

The “other guy” was Obie Trice. Another Detroit artists one of my favorites. That’s why he says Moby you could get stomped by Obie .
He explains it in a line he says in "white america", why it became such a problem suddenly when he starting saying outlandish stuff
He would sit & read the dictionary to load his mind with as many words as possible, he’s said in an interview
The guy is such a genius! Em is beyond legendary.
This song is so smart, funny, and original.
Eminem's mom went on a tv show and talked some shit about him way back when. Also 2002 Kianna Dior with Jenna Jameson is awesome.
If you want to hear Em talk real talk about how he came up, watch Mike Tyson's Hotboxing interview with Eminem
OMG You 2 look absolutely amazing. And paired with this song reaction it's perfect!
Listen to "Legacy" to understand where Em comes from
This came out when I was in middle school, and yes, every single parent alive at the time despised Eminem lol. Everything was all about protecting the kids was "inappropriate" music. He was seen as this absolutely terrible influence, CDs confiscated, videos banned.
So of course, all us kids loved him. Everyone loves to root for a nuisance :)
The best part is that like, half the people he takes aim at in these songs are irrelevant, and borderline unknown nowadays, and Em is still king
I miss that Em but the one today is fire. Peace
You’re reactions are awesome! Y’all good humans! Keep it up!
He didn't just appear out of thin air he worked at it, that's why he will always be great.
Love from Poland- Eminem is the greatest poet and philosopher of our generation :)
That's just fucking ignorant and downright stupid
That's Eminem in the wig dressed as his mom and his half brother next to him. His brother appeared in a few of his videos. Em crazy funny man. Big fan of him. I love that he's always acting in his videos.
The two give cool, neutral but objective reactions, serious and fun at the same time. Keep on like that.
Jus poppin in to say I love yall. Been withya for a while now. Keep watchin the same reactions cuz I dig y'alls vibe. Much love. From Tampa
Eminem dress like Robin and Dr Dre Dress like Batman
Without trying to get TOO DEEP ~ Em chose to rap with very little ego and comedy to replace it(plus he's got natural poet talent). People appreciate the clown/the fool because they aren't trying to impress with bullshit - they are clever & mischievous - relatable; Em is The Loki of Rap.
@Long Legged Larry He's not what?
Sounds like tech N9ne the clown the poet and the prophets 😂
From back when Eminem gave the finger to the system, wish he would go back to this.
And two years later, your wish came true !
"How was he doing that WAY BACK THEN?!"
Ok...I officially feel old. Lol
Eminem was the reason for all the parental stickers on cd back then people forget that
We need more fun Eminem, these days he's to serious, being hungry up on top is good, but very lonely.
Yeah man!
It’s amazing that Dre saw past him being white, a white rapper was unheard of. Even more today, many people wouldn’t look past his color and would just want to cancel him for “cultural appropriation” if he didn’t already cement himself as a legend.
the spark in asia eyes when she watch em says it all !!
Absolutely loved this reaction 🔥
well this is also my first time hearing this song and OMG he is SO GOOD! new fan of his now
Personally this song and Just Lose It is may all time favorites. I like the goofy style of Em back in the day.
This song is the best or one of his best. I loved it when it came out and still do. I AM 59 yrs old :) Cheers you two!
I never realized the parental advisory part until BJ mentioned it. Nice.
People been trying to cancel em since his first album. "Have you ever been hated and discriminated against? I have, I've been protested and demonstrated against. Pickett signs for the wicked rhymes.." he had every group in america coming after him lol
Edit: watch the video for White America, he talks about how he came onto the scene in that song
A couple of years ago my 64 year old sister went to his concert in Wellington , New Zealand ... so there.....
My guy looks like no life shaq's sibling😂😂.....great reaction 💯
Real enjoyable react, Em is a legend, creative and extremely different because he’s never afraid to do or say things other rappers would be ver try
Loved ems early songs and videos, he was so funny and it was good to see an artist not take himself too seriously!!!! The Osama bit was hilarious, love your laugh Asia, great reaction guys.
Lmao I remember when this actually came out... and Moby ...lol
That fool so crazy, HE IS BRILLIANT
Utter brilliance that's still funny and witty today.
The whole comic book visual style of the clip is a riff on the '60s comedy TV show Batman, which itself had a comic book visual style . He's dressed as Batman's sidekick Robin, the Boy Wonder, kind of a reference to the way he was perceived at the time.
The whole tv show was high camp with lots of guest appearances/cameos from big stars of the day. He even does a little musical reference to the Batman theme when he sings " n.a. n.a. n.a. n.a. n.a. n.a. n.a. n.a...."
One of the catch phrases in the tv series, which he references a number of times, is " ...this looks like a job for Batman..." Much of the action in the TV series features the Batmobile. In the clip he and Dre are like Batman and Robin in the Batmobile.
Do yourself a favour and watch the TV series. It was groundbreaking at the time with the high camp humour and Pop Art/comic book aesthetic.
Great Reaction. If Asia hasn't yet seen his 'Lose it' vid then you gotta check it out. Without a doubt the strangest, funniest Eminem tune.
