AR tech is advancing very quickly and if you think that the same people getting addicted to video games or social media apps wouldn't cross over into a 'full world' of those things whereby you can instantaneously pick and choose between what you want next, then you're either ignorant or stupid.
Not only would people never need to move, but they would have INFINITE number of different artificial pleasures to consume. Combine that with instant(!) access to your favourite games, movies, music...
We want and need real connection. We have already taken "social" media too far in a direction that has become self destructive. People feel that.

I totally agree with his statement. I play shooting games all day long but there’s something different about firing a real gun. Anyone can buy a racing game and drive a Ferrari but driving a Ferrari in real life is a lot more fun. You can have a delicious meal in Red dead redemption but you’re still going to go to McDonald’s later. Real life will always be better than anything digital. Because real suffering is better than fake joy.

You can ruin your perfectly good eyesight if you stare at your phone screen all day. This thing is just not designed to be used that way. And metaverse is about gluing a screen and your eyes together - nobody will do it unless you want to receive some pension for becoming legally blind.

Obviously sleeping, eating, etc can’t happen in the metaverse, but unlike VR chat they want to have legitimate schools, calls, and such.
VR chat is the bottom of the barrel when it comes to what they want to do.

If I had billions I'd also say "fvck the metaverse" and go travel, eat expensive foods, buy a nice house, buy a motorbike, get pets, stay at 5 star hotels, go mountain climbing etc. But not all of us have billions to afford such life. So we stay at home, watch movies, play games, scroll through shorts, watch famous people' drama, study, work from home, etc.

I don’t think this is ever going to be something you just wear all day. It will be something to have experiences with from time to time. Watching movies, using your computer, games, online dating, virtual meeting, etc.

I don't think they were too late. I think they were too early. The technology isn't ready yet and you need a lot of casual users to really populate it and create a diverse group of communities. But with how uncomfortable and expensive VR technology is right now I don't see a lot of people, even well off people, willing to put the money down to try this when they don't know if they'll like it.
I think they also got greedy. They need a lot of help with a lot of businesses buying in to create a smorgasbord like the internet. They saw the potential and then are trying to do a one-man investment build up but it is like a single company building the internet. It would have gone better if they built alliances and invested together with other companies bringing their customer bases too.
Actually people will go to the metaverse as they go through the real world. It's only in its infancy but it will get bigger and better through time

A couple decades ago, if people were told that they'd be carrying small portable devices wherever they went and that they would stare at those said devices for the majority of their lives, people would scoff at the idea. They'd probably say things like, who would want to stare at a screen all day? Won't that make your eyes go bad? Won't it be an inconvenience to carry said devices everywhere you go? People have a life to live instead of just staring at the said devices.... So don't just scoff at new innovations and inventions even if someone smart tells you otherwise. The smartest people in the world were sure Google would just flop, that the internet was a phase that would die out. Even the smartest human in the world can be wrong when change catches up to them so don't believe them unconditionally, they're humans too afterall.

I couldn't imagine a day where people were walking in a park, yet staring at a computer screen the whole time. And yet that is exactly what people already do. Having it on your head instead of looking down on your phone, no longer seems unreasonable. Sad, but that's the world we live in now.
In the future they will be contact lenses, used mostly for AR and replacing smartphones. VR to play games, teleconference and consume media.

@Nindo Because actual education is a process. It involves you taking in new knowledge, then actually applying it to something (like a problem). That's why you have problem sets in math class. Because THAT'S where the actual learning happens. That's where you assimilate the new information into your knowledge base. Just watching videos unless you're actually applying any of the stuff you're watching, is nothing more than entertainment disguised as education. People think they're learning and making themselves better, but at best they're just going to repeat the information to someone else without actually understanding it or having tested or assimilated it into who they are. They become meme repeaters.

It’s crazy because you can still tell it’s a video game in certain spots but some spots my mind is like 😮 “I can’t tell the difference!” Unreal 7 or 8 will really be the metaverse level material.
We are human beings last I checked, we need to struggle and strain our intellect as we do our bodies to maintain strength and resilience, bloated sponges bobbing around in the metaverse is quite possibly the worst thing we could do. Go out and build something, ride something, and explore your world while you have the strength to do it

I think VR will be for gaming and AR will be more real world or easier integrable to our phones and stuff. It would be more practical to have contacts that you could replace your phone with, than to completely block out the world to play with animated people.
Beyond the virtual aspect, he makes a good point of the physical discomfort. Even with hard-core gamers, they can at least move around. With VR glasses, you're literally trapped with no option to navigate around your space without a possible accident. Especially if the goal is to spend a good amount of time in the metaverse

I like living in the universe. I sure that's so people would like living in the meta verse all day but you forget the night. It easier saying life a big joke. We live in the matrix.

Or if there is like a pod bed that can be utilised while sleeping (without affecting rest) where you live in be for those “lost” hours of sleep.
We've already rejected people wearing bluetooth headsets. VR just adds a new dimension to it
