The antspur rapier with blood afinity is the better weapon for this build as you can have up to 117 bleed and 50 scarlet rot buildup so bosses get even further shredded with more max health D.O.T. damage from rot while getting max health bleed dmg as well. Definitely much better
I think my toxic trait is instead of challanging myself and beating the game normally. I search for goofy op builds, and then giggle for 15 minutes after i beat the really hard fight 😂. Thank you for this build 🙏

I just want to point out that, altenatively, you can use Spiked Spear instead of Naginata. If you are going for a Fingerprint Stoneshield or Verdigris, you'll get more benefits from using Spiked Spear as it has a higher strength scaling than Naginata which will put all the 48 str stat to good use, on top of that it also has a bleed passive just like Naginata.
@@jimatchoo370 Naginata should be a tiny bit stronger on other upgrade affinities. But if you'll be using cold affinity on a spear poker build with the verdigris or fingerprint shield that has a big strength requirement, the C scaling on strength for the spiked spear would be much better than a D strength scaling Naginata
Tried this build on Messmer and it works great, until the buffs wear off and you will never have the time to rebuff again cause they take 3-5 business day to go off. Not sure how I'm supposed to deal with rebuffing both shield and naginata mid fight, doesnt seem possible to me.

Your lack of endurance makes this build extremely unfun to play when not in boss fights. Are you just running around naked and fat rolling for the 85% of time you aren't in a boss arena? Are you returning to a site of grace ever 3 minutes to use a flask again? This build does not make any sense with its stat allotment.
It's mostly that 3m are often enough due to how many shortcuts/Graces there are around, but there are alternatives to alleviate this issue: 1. You can use Great Jar Arsenal & Erdtree's Favor Talismans when exploring for higher Equip Load 2. You can use Light and/or Medium Armor or even go "naked" this way since Shields easily block any enemy even on the DLC, and common enemies won't deal as much damage as bosses. 3. For overworld, you can ride the Horse and still remain at Overloaded to conserve Winged Crystal Tear duration.
THANK YOU!!!!! I did most most of this other than the buffs, and I FINALLY got the win over the final boss. Still took me a few times to learn what I could and couldn’t get away with, but it ended up being a fun and satisfying win. On a fight like this, I have no problem running a “cheese” build like this.

Smithscript shield is lowkey amazing. Throw only costs 3fp and a little stam, locks on and redirects to whatever you throw at it (can even throw it behind someone and have it come back boomerang style and hit them), and pretty decent strength scaling. Easily hitting mobs at 8-1200 a throw, and more resistant bosses only a little less. Makes dragon headshots a breeze while they do their bullshit
There is no need to equip bull-goats set, much less fingerprint shield. Just put 34 strength and fully upgrade a golden greatshield and slap on barricade ash of war, it will get you the most bang for your buck and any armor you like the look of as long as it gets you above 50 poise. 38 endurance for medium rolls with this setup.
Do you perhaps have a different build that doesn't revolve around a 3 minute physick where without it, I'd be a slow AF potato-man? It's good and all, but I tend to act more cautious and patient when turtling and having a timer kinda stresses me out and forces me to act quicker, resulting in deaths.
Looks like it's using the Physick, so you can only really fully use the build with it up. I guess you got to walk around naked/lightly armoured otherwise.

cRPG bro follwing the kiss (keep it simple, stupid!) rule. Powergaming isnt always about building a complex machine of moving pieces and intricate arcane (no pun intended) mechanics. Sometimes powergaming is just about eliminating potential pitfalls and sources of player error. The iron trutle does a splendid job doing exactly just that.
It looks like I build I will jump into only to deal with the most annoying bosses and go back to my usual build afterwards. It's a practical build to deal with some of the bs that game can throw at you.
@@chillax319 one if the, if not the most annoying things are bosses with movesets like Margit: Nearly identicalv windup animations for three similar attacks that all have different delays to catch you in a roll. The only thing you can really do about that is turtle up and poke.
How is your equip load so high but your endurance is so low? Im at 55 endruance with equip load boosting talismans and i cant get even close to your equip load
IMO, Fingerprint > Verdigris at max level. Fingerprint can use barricade AoW and Verdigris cannot. Fingerprint with barricade skill up has as much stamina defense as Verdigris. Other stamina defense boosts are available on both shields and stack multiplicatively. The only downside to fingerprint/barricade is the FP cost needed to keep barricade up. At max level, FP cost is not a problem and thus Verdigris loses its only real advantage against Fingerprint. I will admit that Verdigris is useful when mind isn't leveled up and FP costs matter. It also looks nicer if you're wearing the rest of the Verdigris set.
Yesterday I reached the final boss of the dlc. I was obliterated, of course. Since I didn't want to spend days learning his moveset (I had enough of that with Malenia for my taste 😂) I changed my build to something very similar. I ended up using the new swordspear with blood affinity, which has 120 bleed build up. And I used the golden vow consumable and this farmable consumable "sacred bloody flesh". I should have used cragblade as an aow but only realized that was an option after I beat the final dlc boss on the first try 😂 Oh and I didn't even use heavy armor, I had varre mask and Raksasha set. Less tanky of course but it trivialized the game with surprisingly huge dps despite being unoptomized. Maybe this helps someone :)
This is THE build if you want to have fun and feel immortal in this game. Amazing how good this simple concept is, I've first tried like 90% of the DLC bosses including the final boss! I've also went out and got 99 Endurance since I'm lvl 270 anyway, making it so I don't have to swap armor between bosses and exploration :)
hmm, i build this today and i am getting constantly hit by unblockable (?) attacks even from standard mobs. stamina is full/even full but i am taking damage while blocking nevertheless. why?

why not go with mogh spear? usually I can fill in an entire 3 combo chain in between some boss phases (especially with summons) and this triggers extra bleed
Build got me the win against the final boss. I don't like I had to drop my old build but the attacks are endless, near no opening without taking a hit, even the mimic tear does not last long or even keep attention for much. I did nearly do it, literally the health bar was so low you could not even tell it was there, but I could not get in that last hit. Thanks for this. DLC is finished
It can help but it's better for blocking with weapons rather than Shield, since for a build like this because you are always holding Block, it won't count as a "spontaneous reflect" for the Tear purposes.
What method are you using to get ultrawide in the game? It made me really angry that the developers essentially locked it out. Currently I have to use Flawless Widescreen and make a copy of the game, but this leaves me unable to play online at all.
I usually play a DEX build and I cleared the whole DLC with it using claws or backhandblades, great katanas are also nice. But Radahn forces me to go turtle 😂 No chance. Thanks for the build, it will help. I think it makes me a Ninja Turtle. 🤔

Guard boost is increasable actually, it's just multiplicative now and dont show values in the arsenal. You could also use Barricade Shield ash of war, to further raise your guard boost, while gain Hardness4, which means even some bosses fill flinch attacking you. Haligtrree crest shield is comparable to Fingerprint with barricate, but easier to meet prerequisites
Barricade Shield on +10 Brass Shield can allow even a non-tanky character to actually freaking tank that Twin Moons spell from Rellana. I'm pretty sure it can tank even the third pulse of that spell, though I could not try it out again since work came calling(and I died due to having little hp to begin with when she started the spell and ran out of last remains of stamina I had at the second pulse). Barricade shield is great for blocking heavy hitting enemies and counter attacking them. Good way to trigger critical strikes on humanoid bosses/enemies in the base game.
Noob question: how are you using rallying standard buff and seppuku while shield is being held? R1 to apply the shield buff, but what after that? L2 makes me charge forward with the shield.
i dont think that tear is needed for equip load. You dont need to roll as a tank shield spec. also how do you switch ashes of war so the weapon one is equipped? mine is showing shield bash. Also trying this build against undead and wow it sucks , i do like no damage. Maybe its cuz im on ng+4 in dlc
Yep, it's still a great choice until you can get Fingerprint Shield, which only comes much later assuming you're still at the early game! However, if you're already at late game or DLC, Fingerprint or Verdigris is the way to go.
tysm my kind sir, by (mostly) following ur guide i've finally managed to beat the final boss of the DLC the main changes i did were having my main weapon be the rot rapier with bleed, i used the golden vow and protection of the erdtree as my support spells (i still used the schollar's shield), and i had as many npc friends as possible :D both of the lore guys + a mimic with a repeating bow that could fire either bleed or rot bolts and a frenzied flame seal, having access to all of my previously mentioned spells + erdtree heal, black blade, black flame and scarlet aeonia (tho i haven't seen him using anything offensive other than scalet aeonia). oh and he also had access to a single hefty rot pot because might as well

It is only worth using occult infusion at 32 arc upwards, but ideally effective to go up to 40-45, and then when ur done levelling up other stuff end on maybe 50 or 60 arc. 45 is a soft cap though
@@piotrekf943 a soft cap is a good point to stop levelling because after that level you don’t get as much benefit. 45 arc and then 60 arc after are soft caps for when you want to apply status effects like bleed poison sleep from ur weapons
What I dont understand is the equip load. Doesn't make sense lol. I get that the physick will buff you up to carry more & when fighting but when exploring are you running around naked to move lighter? Btw what ash of war does the fingerprint stone shield have.?
It's from the Winged Crystal Tear, when exploring you can for example add Great Jar Arsenal for higher equip load, and you don't really need full Heavy Armor set for exploration, as enemies are easily handled by just blocking & poking with Shield, so you can equip other armor for at least Medium Load!

Godrick's Great Rune for a +5 to everything! If you have high STR you can also use Grafted Blade Greatsword for +5 to all for 1m before boss battles as a way of prebuffing.
Winged Crystal Tear for boss battles. For normal exploration you can rely on Light/Medium Armor since Shield Blocking & Poke makes it a breeze anyways.
I get having range in your pokes in nice but I feel for bosses barring dragons and other oversized bosses, the cleanrot knight sword is a such a good choice. This one has the highest poke range and some of the highest scaling of its archetype while draining half the stamina and receiving the same scaling in blood build up as naginata. Please tell me if I’m wrong tho. Edit: I thought the benefits of Greatshield talisman were minimal (I.e. non existent) for higher guard boost shields?
the talisman is basically useless yes. It only saves like 2-4% of stamina loss you're better off just using a stamina increasing talisman or a damage/defense buff
Not really, since the idea is to block everything with the Shield. The armors with highest Poise however also tend to have high Damage Negation which can help if you lose too much Stamina and end up taking a hit without your shield.

Overall scholar's shield is better I believe. I can't remember why exactly, but Rusty talks about it when he ranks all the sorceries.

how do you have 254 equip load? I followed this guide and have 83 as my max, even dumped more points into endurance?

I'm not dismissing the Cross Naginata, but I REALLY like the bloodfiend fork for a more arcane oriented poke build.
What do you mean I cant combine the second greatshield scholar shield with seppuku? Cant I just put it away for a second?
For the record, at least the dragon halberd R1 works with shield pokes. Can’t recall if I’ve notice any others but def that one does
I think Lance (Blood affinity) is also good because it’s a great spear with decent poise dmg that can stagger enemies

I usually play a DEX build and I cleared the whole DLC with it using claws or backhandblades, great katanas are also nice. But Radahn forces me to go turtle 😂 No chance. Thanks for the build, it will help.

You dont need to use scholar shield, only use the shield grease
Guard boost is increasable actually, it's just multiplicative now and dont show values in the arsenal.
You could also use Barricade Shield ash of war, to further raise your guard boost, while gain Hardness4, which means even some bosses fill flinch attacking you. Haligtrree crest shield is comparable to Fingerprint with barricate, but easier to meet prerequisites
Barricade Shield on +10 Brass Shield can allow even a non-tanky character to actually freaking tank that Twin Moons spell from Rellana. I'm pretty sure it can tank even the third pulse of that spell, though I could not try it out again since work came calling(and I died due to having little hp to begin with when she started the spell and ran out of last remains of stamina I had at the second pulse). Barricade shield is great for blocking heavy hitting enemies and counter attacking them. Good way to trigger critical strikes on humanoid bosses/enemies in the base game.
Noob question: how are you using rallying standard buff and seppuku while shield is being held? R1 to apply the shield buff, but what after that? L2 makes me charge forward with the shield.

Y + RB or Triangle + R1, so the Shield Ash of War won't trigger, then return to Shield.
i dont think that tear is needed for equip load. You dont need to roll as a tank shield spec. also how do you switch ashes of war so the weapon one is equipped? mine is showing shield bash. Also trying this build against undead and wow it sucks , i do like no damage. Maybe its cuz im on ng+4 in dlc
if you put the no skill - ash of war on your shield, you only have the weapon ability to use

Yep, it's still a great choice until you can get Fingerprint Shield, which only comes much later assuming you're still at the early game!
However, if you're already at late game or DLC, Fingerprint or Verdigris is the way to go.
It doesn't block messmers grab attack btw

tysm my kind sir, by (mostly) following ur guide i've finally managed to beat the final boss of the DLC
the main changes i did were having my main weapon be the rot rapier with bleed, i used the golden vow and protection of the erdtree as my support spells (i still used the schollar's shield), and i had as many npc friends as possible :D both of the lore guys + a mimic with a repeating bow that could fire either bleed or rot bolts and a frenzied flame seal, having access to all of my previously mentioned spells + erdtree heal, black blade, black flame and scarlet aeonia (tho i haven't seen him using anything offensive other than scalet aeonia). oh and he also had access to a single hefty rot pot because might as well

It can help, but I find Elemental Damage is often very low when blocking already.

My occult cross naginata +19 is only 48 blood loss buildup, it goes to 98 when +25 ?
How high is your ARC? It's very important for higher bleed build up.
It is only worth using occult infusion at 32 arc upwards, but ideally effective to go up to 40-45, and then when ur done levelling up other stuff end on maybe 50 or 60 arc. 45 is a soft cap though

@@piotrekf943 a soft cap is a good point to stop levelling because after that level you don’t get as much benefit. 45 arc and then 60 arc after are soft caps for when you want to apply status effects like bleed poison sleep from ur weapons

What I dont understand is the equip load. Doesn't make sense lol. I get that the physick will buff you up to carry more & when fighting but when exploring are you running around naked to move lighter?

It's from the Winged Crystal Tear, when exploring you can for example add Great Jar Arsenal for higher equip load, and you don't really need full Heavy Armor set for exploration, as enemies are easily handled by just blocking & poking with Shield, so you can equip other armor for at least Medium Load!

Godrick's Great Rune for a +5 to everything!
If you have high STR you can also use Grafted Blade Greatsword for +5 to all for 1m before boss battles as a way of prebuffing.

For normal exploration you can rely on Light/Medium Armor since Shield Blocking & Poke makes it a breeze anyways.

I get having range in your pokes in nice but I feel for bosses barring dragons and other oversized bosses, the cleanrot knight sword is a such a good choice. This one has the highest poke range and some of the highest scaling of its archetype while draining half the stamina and receiving the same scaling in blood build up as naginata. Please tell me if I’m wrong tho.
Edit: I thought the benefits of Greatshield talisman were minimal (I.e. non existent) for higher guard boost shields?
the talisman is basically useless yes. It only saves like 2-4% of stamina loss you're better off just using a stamina increasing talisman or a damage/defense buff
Cleanrot knight sword got no aracane scaling. So arcane wont scale your bleeding with this

Not really, since the idea is to block everything with the Shield.
The armors with highest Poise however also tend to have high Damage Negation which can help if you lose too much Stamina and end up taking a hit without your shield.
