    I am going for rainbows on a small glacial pothole lake on Saturday. Where I am going the rainbows are stocked. I have tried several times to locate them ice fishing and cannot seem to even see any on the camera. The lake is not very big, it is one of those glacial pothole lakes so it gets pretty deep, almost 70'. Around the whole perimeter it drops off about 10 from the shore except for the back NW corner, there it is a little more gradual.. almost basin like. Would you have any tips on trying to locate these elusive son of a guns??? I do have an aquavu cam and an ibobber so i got the electronics.. any tips are appreciated! much love brother!

    • @darylgilbertoutdoors
      @darylgilbertoutdoors  Год назад

      That nw corner would be where I would be trying for sure. 3-9ft deep if I could find it. If they’re not there try and find a point adjacent to deep water that is shallow that same 3-9ft and you should find some there aswell. They have to be coming up shallow and cruising!

    usually you pin the jaw jacker to the size of the rod and not leaving it sliding all over that way you get consistent hook sets and don't break rods. but with rods that light I doubt it matters.

    • @darylgilbertoutdoors
      @darylgilbertoutdoors  2 года назад +1

      They are pinned to the length of the rod, the one may have fallen out at one point but was put back in

    • @darylgilbertoutdoors
      @darylgilbertoutdoors  2 года назад

      They also slide freely when pinned they just stop at the length you choose to put the pin in place

    • @darylgilbertoutdoors
      @darylgilbertoutdoors  2 года назад +1

      Thanks, any coulee or main lake point will hold them. There’s really no special location that holds more than the others. Depth I would sit around 3-8 for sure. You should see some whitefish also cruising and possibly some pike.

    Awesome video man those trout were huge! What test line did you use for those trout?

    • @darylgilbertoutdoors
      @darylgilbertoutdoors  2 года назад +2

      Thanks!. 8lb fluoro to 10lb mainline. There are 8lb fish in that lake. I always use the best option for line that is good for the fish as I always catch and release the Trout but light enough that you can still catch them. You could use lighter but then you play out the fish longer and that can cause problems for them

    A man with his dog and a day of fishing-it doesn't get much better than that! Are the rainbows getting ready to spawn this early? The hens looked like they are filling with eggs and that one male squirted his milt pretty easily. Give Deek a good ear rub for me :)
