With this cold air from north, lake-effect snowfall have developed in between the cold front off of Lake Huron and Georgian Bay. As much as 15 cm of snow expected in the heaviest snow bands off of the lakes. There were very wind gust like blizzard and fast accumulation of snow. The weather was changing really fast. This is the first big snowstorm of 2023 - 2024 winter season.
Lake-effect snow is produced during cooler atmospheric conditions when a cold air mass moves across long expanses of warmer lake water. The lower layer of air, heated by the lake water, picks up water vapor from the lake and rises through colder air. The vapor then freezes and is deposited on the leeward shores.

Well done. For those thinking this would just get worse; most of that snow was gone a couple of days later. We've had more since, but that's already melting and temps on the plus side the rest of this week. Still, nicely done and there'll be more for sure.

I month later, Jan.27, and there is barely any snow on the ground. Temps supposed to remain at, or above, freezing well into next week. This is about as close as we got to typical winter weather so far.
Love the snow, Scotland doesn't get enough.

I was just watching a report on the new york storm with crashes and stuff. I commented that people in America should come learn our game "guess where the road is" before you get a licence in the states. What an opposite polar.
Canada is famous for it's snow. That is why the middle part of their flag is white.
