What an absolute treasure! Prime time capture of a legendary groiup of ferocious young men dealing out verbal gymnastics over solid/purposeful beats...taking no prisoners...making history...creating magic
For the people asking about the beats... these are classic samples that were used by all sorts of groups in the late 80s and early 90s. Ced-Gee was the main producer for a lot of the early Ultramagnetic MCs stuff.
@@Roscoe.P.Coldchain You are out of your mind if you believe they weren't using the same beats/samples as others and people only started using such beats/samples only after they used them.
NK true I was listening to hip hop back then and when critical beatdown dropped it was like no other style , your deluded and obviously young and wasn’t around at the time..If you were then u wouldn’t post such twoddle... Jogg on pipsqueek...!!
Still killin it in 2023.....wauw what a show......I was in Rotterdam that time late 80's beginning 90's and was with some dope shows of BDP, PE, Ice T Cube Jungle Brothers Gangstarr in Rotterdam and Amsterdam....
The Album was called Critical Beatdown. I have the 12in vinyl. One of the greatest! Laid the foundation. Also Ced Gee was a major producer for KRS on Criminal Minded.
You just can't bring this era back, it was a certain scene at a certain time, a vibe that is not gonna be replicated in 2013 by nostalgic 40-50 somethings. Lets just remember what a great time it was back then and what a priveledge to be a hip hop head in those incredible days. I never made it to this jam, but it still brings memories of Hip Hop back then and the vibe before it went soft and lost it's edge.
I remember seeing these guys in July 92' at Linford Street Studios. Classic gig! I'd love to see that on here. I always remember Keith performing Poppa Large wearing a straight jacket.
Classic night, I took my little sister and her friend to this session and we was at the front then the side door got bum rush and our front position we ended up near the back...lol....then a few week later same venue I came to check you Westwood for a copy of the video and I’ve still got it to this day 😜
to be fair they were a full fledged radio program not just one person and their job was to select up and coming music to promote and play . Not exactly a Pioneer of anything.
Did STEZO do his own set at this gig? I was there to record the Ultramagnetics but didn't get there early enough to tape anyone else. But someone told me later on that STEZO had actually did a set earlier in the night and that really pissed me off as I loved STEZO.
I think I was at this show. They killed at the Fridge in Brixton. I met one of the most incredible women that I ended up dating for two years at this show. All in all an amazing night! Ultra!!!!
Shiiiit!!! Memories. I was at this with my crew. Excellent show from my favourite ever Hip Hop group. ...and correction. It wasn't Outlaw Posse that opened it was Uncle B-Nice.
PrAnG2000 Thanks for the correction i am the F9's Dj Mr Islam i am pissed of every time people say it was Outlaw Posse because we actually performed twice one in 1989 when the doors was bum rushed and the one above 1990 that night had Double Trouble promoting there "Dub Be Good To Me"
riza tatlici I don't even know why I said Outlaw, cos I've never seen them live. Lol I remember you guys album. You guys were chopping samples like crazy.
+riza tatlici Whoa,Mr.Islam!!..I picked up the f9s lp for my birthday and it blew me away!..Im Clear is my shit!!.."Mr.Islam,do you really wanna hear a record that you cant hear"..I went on to record with DJ Leader One on Music of Life(unreleased) and years later when signed to Zebra Traffic performed at a anti bullying gig in Stoke Newington school and saw a set by a guy called Lyrical..I said "Man,your UB Nice"!..I was geeked man...Your shit was unique!..Big Respect!
Someone told me that STEZO played at this gig earlier in the night, and I've been pissed off ever since I heard that, as I was at this gig with a Sony Professional Walkman to record the Ultramagnetics, and always thought I'd missed the opportunity to record STEZO as well, by not getting there earlier enough!
I always come back to this it brings back so many memories of my first boyfriend and I , he absolutely loved them 🤎 I wish I still had their tape it's about to be 2023 happy new years too the one that made it this far ,God loves us 🤎 that's in Jesus name 💯

I was there with my dudes from Harrow & Wembley aged 18. The Ultras played at the weekend & Monday. Tim Westwood might be a jerk to many but he was pivotal in bringing groups over from NYC to London between 1987 to 1997 ⏰⏰⏰⏰⏰
I was there Dingwalls Camden Town, and they had the 🤖Cylon Battlestar galactica RED L.E.D shades😎 on with the red dot tracing back and forth...FIRE🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥big up Westwood!!

I remember them threatening to have Westwood clipped for serious cos he didnt play their tunes enough! And BTW who was that kid in the Adidas jacket head nodding HARD? Looking like a young Chuck D?

That’s where you are wrong, nobody was using the same beats as ultra back then, as they were completely original, others used them after...
Nautilus?
