In this episode, Kreuza shares her journey through the challenging landscape of insomnia and somniphobia - a fear of sleep. Initially, she found Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I) techniques helpful. However, when sleep problems returned as somniphobia, the same techniques faltered. Feeling isolated in her struggle, Kreuza realized that implementing rules around sleep was not helping her.
A turning point came when she embraced a more flexible, compassionate approach to sleep. She began to practice accepting her thoughts and feelings without resistance. She practiced being kind to herself when things felt really difficult. And she engaged in activities that mattered to her, even after difficult nights.
Kreuza’s story is a testament to the possibility and power of patient and kind practice of acceptance as a way to deal with deep-seated fears. It also highlights that moving past sleep struggles is often a journey of ongoing action and practice - and setbacks - rather than quick fixes.

Your podcast has taught me not to be scared of my thoughts at bedtime. It also taught me that I'm not alone and that this is something everyone experiences, and for that I thank you.

Thank you so much, both of you. For taking the time to really dive deep into this. Kreuza you’re so brave! This was so incredibly helpful. Just the validation of hearing someone else with similar experiences handling somniaphobia, the set backs and then the gradual success really gives me hope.
I developed somniaphobia during 2020. It just started with one little thought of what if I can’t sleep and I get sick? And it snowballed. I’ve been struggling on and off ever since.
Thank you for sharing this, Martin!

@@InsomniaCoach Her fear of something bad happening if she fell asleep. This was a light bulb moment for me. I had not realized before that I have that fear too for different reasons. Also- how oftentimes- the rigidity of sleep rules can cause more anxiety......making them counterproductive. I find your videos very helpful and would sign up for your program if I had any extra money. Unfortunately- I live below the poverty line. I appreciate just being able to watch your videos. Thank you.

I have suffered with insomnia for over 20 years and I’m sorry a true insomniac would definitely not be able to climb any mountain. I have tried absolutely everything in the book but to no avail. That young lady doesn’t look sleep deprived to me. I had to stop watching the video as it bored me to tears😫.
So yes you are right. A load of babble.

@@amandabayley2249 Things sound really difficult for you Amanda. I'm sorry that you are going through all that.
I wonder how many people without insomnia could climb a mountain? I suspect that for many people such a lofty goal would be intimidating and might not be realistic without plenty of preparation.
It might need to be broken down into smaller goals that get us moving toward that bigger goal. And, like any progress toward a goal, there will be ups and downs along the way.
I remember when I ran the London Marathon - that was a few hours of running/jogging and *ahem* walking. Yet, preparation and practice started a long time before the event itself. And that preparation wasn't easy and there were lots of setbacks and very often it felt as though I wasn't making any progress.
I wish you all the best, Amanda. You are not alone.
