Dre and Em met at exactly when they were supposed. 🔥

It’s always interesting to hear Dre talk about signing Eminem & how many people tried to talk him out of it because of skin color. I think it was in Defiant Ones he said he didn’t realize how many people around him were racist until then. It ended up saving Dre’s career and struggling label though.
Also, to this day 🖕 Lynne Cheney & Tipper Gore. I won’t forgive or forget their censorship crusade.

It’s not that he “saved” Dre’s career (they both uplifted each other) it was Dre’s ability to look outside of what was “acceptable “ at the time. Em helped Dre’s career and Dre DEFINITELY MADE ems career. Don’t get it twisted little homie

@@mookiestewart3776 it’s Dre’s own words. He was about to lose his label that he poured all his money and resources into due to a lack of success for his releases. It is you that has it twisted, homie.

@@iamangee citation needed homie . And even on this song em STATES that they both uplifted each other like I said, so even if you have a citation (which I know you don’t) I ALSO have a citation (AKA this song) that goes against the narrative you’re attempting to spin currently. Both em and Dre helped each other but neither “saved” each other and if anyone did it was Dre who was already successful that saved em since Dre would have been respected and Rick for his entire life even if em NEVER came along. YOU are the one that has it twisted homie

5:34 and this is coming from him…he flunked math…more than once. He was very good at English. Lit etc. (gee, how surprising haha). So, he gets it. No need to do annoying math. He gets it. XD
5:02 he has said that Dre saved his life. I remember hearing from friends who were very into battle rap about this white guy in Detroit especially after a guy who I am good friends with to this day transferred when he came here to Jersey to live with his granny). This was in middle school, in 98, and the next year in Jan he dropped My Name Is.
I truly do NOT think others would have signed him. ESPECIALLY given how um…vocal he is about stuff haha. If they had, he’d not have Dre as a producer and likely he’d have a VERY different relationship with the label (Aftermath seems to not be quite like the other labels out there.) And having Dre co-sign him played a big part and even he says so. They’d likely have dropped him after September 11 if he was still being as open about how he felt (who knows if he’d have done it. He felt free to with Dre but that’s because he had his back.)
In turn, this not only would have had a very different outlook on his fate but would have a domino effect on music and culture. Smaller things like the word Stan? Would not be in our lexicon. Bigger things like how he helped and continues to help Detroit, the state of MI etc would also likely not exist.
And of course, the next question…would anyone else have signed 50? He signed onto Shady records first, I may be wrong. But that’s a WHOLE nother can of worms”what ifs”
7:41 exactly. And this is what I mean about if he had NOT been signed by Dre things would be so different. He brought “these words” into suburban homes. Now a whole new, previously little tapped audience was right there and they, kids of the 90s …in suburbs …sure different problems but with rising internal conflict (just a reminder that these were kids struggling with stuff that at that time wasn’t “the usual”. Columbine had happened and left everyone shaken especially in suburbia…in 97. We soon had another punch in the gut with 9/11. There was no social media to get onto to vent or get our views out. We were limited to maybe a blog site. RUclips only would come in 2005.
So it was a perfect storm scenario. You had all these elements that would have been sizeable just alone but mix them together? BOOM.
As for him being a school flunkie…this a prime example of why in many cases, a diploma does not mean you’re any better than the flunkie. He is very obviously a genius with words (I mean that literally. I wouldn’t doubt he does have a high IQ at least with language, comprehension , just words and such.)

Such a good song, and pointed out how politicians and activists didn't care for black ppl, Eminem was angry bc nobody batted an eye if the songs were talking about drugs, guns and gangbanging, "its just black kids listening to that music" but when a white rapper reached white kids, now suddenly it is a problem to be worried about and Eminem had to face the government in court for his lyrics, which were actually tame compared to other rappers, that's why he was so mad and lined Cheney and Gore with the Divided States of Embarrassment bar
