I am not an expert in Snooker or Cues, but I just love to watch the game. I have often wondered if ever, it was possible to use a ferrule with a tip, that could be just screwed on and off to the cue, so that in times of a crucial match event, if ever the tip gets damaged, one could just replace the tip with the ferrule in no time. Just expressing a possibility, as I said I am no expert to judge what the result would be on the cue and striking and its working feasibility. Also not sure why players of the caliber of Neil and Ronnie wouldn't have extra cues with them in a crucial match. Agreed there might also be a possibility to have a cue of sentimental value to play, but having spares could be better. Depending only on one, and causing to lose because of that, is a pity. Saying this because I have seen other sports players carry multiple gear with them, like tennis rackets, or crickets bats and so forth. Can screwable ferrules be a workaround? A ferrule screwed to a wooden stick would loosen over time as its job is to absorb the impact of shots. Besides, the problem is the unfamiliar new tip itself, not the time it takes to replace it. No two cue sticks are the same. Read this intro quote: ruclips.net/video/NlzDTaVwYvw/видео.html

I have heard that top professional snooker players should have an identical snooker cue available for just these circumstances of when there tip breaks, and it's not as if they can not afford a spare cue.
I think it could be complicated. They may have a similar external shape, but different distributed weight or flexibilty since they are made of wood (and by hand). Also, the tip becomes increasingly rigid with use, affecting the spin excerted to the cue ball. Although it may be achievable, I think the few chances of cue damage wouldn't be worth it. Players use their same cues for many years.

Late reply, but since no one has answered your question I will. In snooker, the sticks they play with are called "cues". All cues are unique and ard special to their owner. Snooker players use the same cue both in practice and during professional matches. This matters as the composition of the cue affects the player's playstyle and comfort level. Snooker players have a strong attachment to their cue, and often refuse to play with other cues, as no two cues feel and play alike. Given that the chances of tip damage are very low other cues aren't really provided, and most players would rather play with their own cue.
Robertson breaks the top off of his cue and they take a 15 minute break to repair it? Then it hampers him again later? Can't he afford a second cue? They should have 5 minimum!
