I was at strensall in the 90s as an instructor,we had Light infantry with us ,I honestly wished I learned there drill and passed out on there parade ,this is really a regret and one I can't take back

So pomp and circumstance!Imagine that, marching into battle like that with the Officer up front with his cane as if he’s walking down Oxford Street in the 1800s! “Just walking into the napoleonic war, no fucks given keep the tea pot hot!” Must have mentally messed up the enemy! Of course the rifles being an amalgamation of multiple units including the Bucks and predominately the Green Jackets!
The rgj was made up of the rifle brigade the ox and bucks who in their own right took pegasus bridge in ww2 and held it untill relieved and the 2nd battalion which was originally the American rifles such a famous regiment like all those in the British army and I quote Scottish Irish and Welsh regiments gone destroyed by their own government

The history of the British Light Infantry goes back further to 1758 and were formed to tackle the unorthodox way of fighting ... so white belts were changed to black ,red tunics to green and a bugle to sound orders instead of a drum ... they were marksmen and skirmishers a tradition of moving at a faster pace that is still to this day what sets them apart from other non light Infantry regiments

@@danielw5850 I don't think he was at Quebec... he was at Halifax though and saw some action there against the Americans maybe that was where his thoughts came from .... I'm sure it was seeing how American militia fought and also the native american warriors who as you know,depending on which tribe fought on both sides . Ahead of his time for sure ....also the Germans had Jager sharpshooter who also wore green I'm sure that was also a influence .... I'd done my training at Sir John Moor Barracks Shrewsbury. That looks like "Rifles March" pace. Basically, double-time with the rifles carried at their side instead of on the shoulder. One of their ancestor regiments was the Rifle Brigade and I read somewhere (can't find it at the moment) that the Rifle Brigade had 2 speeds: slow and fast (not the right terms). The 'fast' pace is 140 pages/minute while the regular army is 120 paces/minute. Historically, the Rifles were the advance guard and flankers so they needed to move fast. From what I can tell, they never march slow these days.

Many a time I used to go and watch them parade with the band. Their music is just amazing. I recommend listening to their High on the Hill
@@nutterbirdy1983 hi from an ex royal green jacket both the rgj and the light infantry made up the light division now as you say part of the rifles which I dnt agree with both are famous in their own right the government should have left them alone I did ten years in the green jackets miss it every day

The Rifles are probably the only regiment I have seen march in time with Zorba's Dance from start to finish.
