I hate when they call straight hair normal, having thick natural hair is normal! it makes me feel like they don't know anything about our hair, afraid to try
+Jordann Allen I have this brush, and from looking at the package, I don't think normal means straight. The options are fine hair, normal hair, and thick hair. Some people with natural hair have fine hair. But still, what is "normal?" Maybe medium would've made more sense.
I've never tried it but I hate the Michel Mercier brush commercial b/c they show a girl with natural hair & her natural hair texture BUT then her after pics clearly show her with flat ironed hair!! What is that?! Like we don't know the difference!!
That sound that the tangle teezer makes is the sound of the bristles slipping over your hair, not ripping through it. If you have the tangle teezer then you know how flexible those little teeth are and how easily they can bend for hair to slide right over them. If you simply run your fingers over the top of the brush you'll get that same sound. It's really not that cringe-worthy if you are patient and take your time.
Even so, you can tell the mercier was a lot harder to use and grip, and it was very awkward to hold. And because the bristles are so small, you constantly have to go through your hair to make sure you didn’t miss anything, and too much detangling like that causes breakage. And even if the sound isn’t what it seems, it’s very cringe and triggering a lot of people.
We are gathered here today in Memory of the Brave Hair Ends from Thelowerrightside of Naptural85's Head. We appreciate their Brave sacrifice to show us All that Denman is the King of ALL Brushes (and why I never go on sale:) and when a new brush says it has advance Brush "Technology" it really means a weird futuristic handle that is incompatible with any form of Moisture. It may seem that the ends where dumped out of the shower hair catcher Without Ceremony, But that is Untrue!! We all Cringed several times (1:33 POP) over and over I mean if I could take out those little alien spaceship's in Galaga like that brush going through those ends I would have made it past level 18. Uhmm what I mean is we are grateful for their service which saved our hair ends from an untimely trim. A moment of silence........ cuticle to cuticle, protein to protein.--
I personally love the tangle teezer. Its the best brush I ever used on my hair. The bristles on the tangle teezer are so flexible to the point it doesn't cause breakage because it doesn't force its way through the hair. I have the denmen brush as well, but the tangle teezer wins for me. its quick and I can detangle huge chunks of my waist length hair without worrying about breakage unlike the Denmen. Also I notice after using the denmen brush i'll still have shed hair, but with the tangle teezer I have way less shed hair.
Yea I bought the Denman brush after this review. I had to modify it but even after that I felt like it tears at my hair and the long bristles actually were the downside. The tangle teaser is just quicker, gentler, and smooths my hair better.
I just searched black people trying detangle brushes and honestly you were the first person to get straight to what I wanted to see. Another person just started to talk about why she liked the brush, I have thick hair that is very tangled/nappy I did not want to know why you like a brush. For making such an effective video I will watch more videos and I just subscribed!
Hey Guys!! Have you seen this at your local drugstore!?! Here's my thoughts on the Michel Mercier Detangling Brush vs. Denman Brush + Tangle Teezer! First Impression Review! Xo!
Hello again Whitney! I haven't been in a local drugstore in quite a while...online shopper! I'm scared of brushing my hair, I still haven't used my Denman D3 that I bought a year ago after watching your video on it! Yeah clear difference that "CRUNCH" noise the Michel Mercier is making, "Sa·cré bleu!" Oh my goodness the "Tangle Teaser" looks even worse for your hair! That's weird that it would work on dry hair vs soaking wet hair...interesting! You don't look that crazy, your twists are like FABULOUS ropes of hair! Great review, DENMAN WINS! I don't know when I'll even brush my hair again it's been over a good 2 years, but I appreciate the review anyways, always a job well done! Love the "Shout Outs!" Hey, you probably already know but you're video has 3 extra minutes remaining, I had to make sure you didn't have any surprise footage left...nope just blackness! It's important to watch until the end guys, so Whitney gets all her viewing points! Take care!
I really appreciate your honesty. I'm really happy to see you branching out more and doing more product reviews and things of that nature, because I feel like you're one of few beauty vloggers I can count on to still have integrity even if you got the product for free/are being compensated in some way (not in this case, just generally speaking). Keep up the great work :)
Making this video was a labor of love..... I watched with one eye opened and one eye closed... Thank you for doing a first impression on the Mercier Detangling brush.
I find myself cringing when I hear the Tangle Teezer and Michel Mercier brush. Still trying to figure out how to use a Denman Brush, Aah! For now, I will settle for good ol' fingers! LOL!
Me too, I feel the same way! Nay brush, YAY fingers! I haven't gotten any use out of my Denman but I sure did use it on my mom last week! She wanted a blowout for the 4th (hehe, perfect guinea pig to test out that brush!) just kidding, I care about my mom's hair too and handle it with care! But when I brushed her hair back into a ponytail, I noticed a smooth glide and no awful CRUNCH sound...and as the brush passed through each strand, I was like "Ah, I remembers those days!"
I just finished recovering from the holes/incomplete splits the tangle tamer gave me last year! SMH! I just have accepted the fact that my fingers are best if I want to keep my hair on my head lol.
NaturalMe4C Hey chica,I have to second that motion. The Michel Mercier did a very sly number on me about two years ago : yes, it detangled alright but then I was slammed with splits and holes a la mode. I have just given up trying to trim off the damage it did to a years' worth of length. I find that 4C hair just seems to prefer a low-tool or no-tool approach when it comes to getting out those tangles. A bottle of VO5 plus a wee bit of patience seems to be the rule of thumb for detangling hair like ours( oh, and thanks for alerting me to VO5 -it's been marvellous for my mane!).
NaturalMe4C Hello NaturalMeC! You ladies are scaring me about this tangle teaser, I didn't like that crunch crackle sound it was making when passing through Whitney's precious strands! I had no plans in buying it BUT know I REALLY have NO PLANS on buying it! YES fingers all the way, comb, brush, what's that?! I haven't used a comb in over a year and a brush in over 2 years, fingers are magical! Take care!
I don't know who thinks of the shapes for these detanglers! If you're using it with ANY product or your hands are wet, most of these brushes are hard to handle. When my hair was shorter I loved the Tangle Teaser, but kept dropping it constantly which was SOOOO annoying. I think those with normal brush handles are way easier to handle. I haven't tried this particular brush, but I have tried the other 2. I actually tried & prefer The Wet Brush. I have also tried finger detangling before, but I have NOOOO patience for it being the mom of 3 busy boys! lol
I've always wondered about that brush! While you were brushing your hair with the Michel Mercier brush, I was like "Oh no...OH NO... " lol that brush would terrify me! I'll probably give a Denman brush a chance a lot faster than that brush.
I'm 13 and I began transitioning in January because Seeing your hair just gave me hope and made me so excited for how healthy and long my hair could become by the time I'm a senior in high school! Ur the only channel on RUclips that gives me answers and amazing results❤️
jjleb85 lol it is thank you so much! I’m actually about to start my own natural hair channel bc my hair has grown so much and i get sooo many questions on the socials😂. Wish me luck!
I'm newly subscribed to your channel and just wanted to say I find your tips and info super helpful. My daughters are biracial and learning to manage their naturally curly hair has been challenging to say the least. I have learned much of what you discuss in your videos through trial and error over the years. However, the protective hairstyling tips and product recommendations you share are SO appreciated. I just cocooned by daughters hair yesterday after applying a bit of the aloe vera juice/water solution you recommended. Today the results were so great (shinier then it's ever been) she has been whipping her hair back and forth for the last hour. Thanks for sharing your experiences and looking forward to more great tips.
Ahh thanks so much my grandmother and I have so much trouble with my sisters hair I'm the only one brave enough to detangle at times and I saw the brush on TV and was questioning how good it was cuz the only sisters on the TV commercials had straight hair so I'm happy for your information about this thanks very much..
Your reviews are the best. You have such great detail and sincere input. I've been wanting the Mercier brush (on sale at Walgreens for $10.99), but I barely use my denman. I may give this a try...(I'm just a anything hair related junkie). 😔
Hi Whitney! I don't normally comment (not that I don't luv your videos, Because I Do!!!). But after reading an earlier comment about your lashes I had to go back and hit replay.! It's funny, because while watching your vid the 1st time, I said to myself "wow her eyes look stunning" lol. Great job!! Whitney, you have a beautiful personality and a beautiful family!! It's a pleasure watching your videos/vlogs on all your channels. Thanks for being you, God Bess!!!
Okay how about no michel Mercier detangling Brush, no Tangle Teezer. I will just stay with the denman brush and mostly finger detangling. if I were to use that Michel Mercier thing I would be bald headed!! Plus I am tender headed. Thank you for the review though. Be blessed
I was just looking at this brush on amazon and trying to go through all of the pages and search the word "natural" to see if I could use this for my hair. Thank you for having my back and reviewing this brush!
The main reason why the Mercier brush / tangle teezer seems to take a longer time to detangle is because it is very difficult to hold and get a good grip of so you have to keep passing it through the same section over again, so annoying! especially on even courser hair.
I love my Denman brush for detangling. So easy and it really clumps my curls. It feels so good on my scalp too. Oh and I love the music at 4:40. So relaxing.
This review is so timely. I've been hearing some talk about this brush and was wondering how that handle was going to work on wet/slippery hands. Great review and thanks Whitney.!
:) I wondered why my hair was falling apart and blamed it on bleach (which is still part of the problem, but my hair was still in pretty good condition) now I've got white spots in my hair where my hair is fragile from the michel mercier brush, such a shame because I paid $16 on sale and I hate spending money lol
Finally viewed your comparison of the denman brush, the tangle teaser, and the Michel Mercier detangling brush, great video, and great feedback. I loved the way the Michel Mercier detangling brush clumped your curls. Based on what I viewed, I will give it a try, since I have used the denman, I would like to see if I am in agreement with your tutorial. As always, your tutorials are very informative.
I bought the Michel marcier brush. I agree regarding the handle so I just wrapped a wash towel around the handle and it helped with the grip. When I use it dry I put about 3 large rubber bands around the handle and that works. Thanks for sharing!!💖💋
The plain fact of the matter is that that brush is NOT FOR OUR HAIR. Even look at the commercial, you DO NOT SEE WOMEN OF DIFFERENT ETHNICITY USING IT.....
DIY Princess They are both so you can't force them to acknowledge one side and not the other. By your logic they should be called white and you shouldn't have a problem with that. Smh
DIY Princess Okay, so she meant full blood. The fact of the matter is that she didn't have a hair texture in the 4's like a lot of full black woman so she doesn't count in this situation where they say 'our hair'.
The name sounds so elegant, probably the reason for the high price point... Good review, i usually just use a comb to detangle but if i ever decide to get a detangling brush, I'll go with the denman.
Welp that definitely helped me out lol! I've been looking into a finding a good detangling brush and heard about the Denman and saw ads for the Mercier brush.... now I know to go for that Denman lol, awesome review!!! :)
I'm 15 and I was mad at my mom for having me get straight hair (perm;-;) a while back I ended up taking my frustration out on my hair while I was in the shower brushing it harshly (I literally cried) I used a regular brush and tried to force it to work on my hair. I lost lots of hair from getting it permed and straightened and not proper care ❤, also the day I brushed it with a normal regular brush you would probably find people with straight hair using. I want an afro and my only support is RUclips. I hope I can wear my natural hair out this year. It won't be a New Year's Revolution because I never complete those 😂 last year's was learn Korean Language and I'm still just an English speaker
I feel like you're a good friend of mine, lol. I've been watching and loving you and your beautiful family for years. Love you, girl! Thanks for sharing!
You went over same section of hair with both brushes, how can you tell the Denman brush worked if you already detangled it with Michel Mercier Detangling Brush?
Hi Nap85, thanks for the review you just saved me some $. I was in Sally's the other day and I saw the brush and decided to wait to buy it. I was hesitant while in the store because of the length and thickness of the bristles. So thanks a bunch, you just prevented some of us from getting frustrated on wash day.
I have the Marcier brush and I hold it at the widest part. I have the normal one. I got it for $9.99 at my walgreens. I love it better than the modified denman for my hair. My daughter, who has thicker hair, has to use the modified denman brush. I quickly learned that you have to use whatever fits your hair and helps you reach your goals. Great video, Whitney. :)
My hair is wavy and curly, my daughter's hair is very curly with a lot of shrinkage. I bought a maxi glide flat iron and it came with a brush and I love it for tangles on our wet or dry hair. I will be trying both of these
There's the Tangle Tamer at Sally's!! It's basically a tangle teaser with a handle! A MUCH BETTER handle than the mercier. It grips perfectly in your hand and doesn't slip out of your hands. I love it.
great review! every time you went thought your hair with the detangling brush and it made that ripping sound i kept cringing! Im a denman brush girl myself gets through this mop on my head in minutes :D
I hate when they call straight hair normal, having thick natural hair is normal! it makes me feel like they don't know anything about our hair, afraid to try
I agree with you
+Jordann Allen I have this brush, and from looking at the package, I don't think normal means straight. The options are fine hair, normal hair, and thick hair. Some people with natural hair have fine hair. But still, what is "normal?" Maybe medium would've made more sense.
Not to mention the original hair of Homo Sapiens is Afro-textured hair. Straight hair is a more recent adaption.
I wouldn't consider any hairstyle "normal" everyone is different.
tbh the brush is amazing not alot of shed and it doesnt hurt
The tangle teezer price went up from $9 to $13. . .natural hair care isn't cheap anymore.
girl yes. with the price of these "hair specific" combs and brushes going up im just going to start detangling with a fork lol
lmao
jupiter sun If it worked for the little mermaid it can work for anyone rotfl. #TeamDinglehopper !!
alm0ndeyes
hahahahaha. that is too funny.
jupiter sun ROTFLLL!!
Denman brush for the win!

the michel mercier really seemed awkward while using
itsmytime123 It was!!

@@bigbean9480 - They were talking about the Tangle Teezer, not the Michele Mercier.
@@YourMajesty143 Im sure I know that because the tangle tweezer was what I was describing. I just made a typo lol
@@bigbean9480 - Oh ok, like I tell my favorite cleansing shampoo, thanks for clarifying! 😁
okay i hate the sound the tangle teaser makes, CRINGEEE! lol
oh my goodness >.
JourneyTo WaistLength love your channel
It's the bristles when they bend. It's not ripping the hair.
yeah I need to pick up a denman!

Lovely Redd Even the Goody version just rips out my hair. Smh.
just saved me some money thank you for the review on all the products, will stick to the denman brush.

The brushing does seem to make your curls pop though. But yeah, I'm always wary of anything other than my fingers and moderate to less combing.
I just finished recovering from the holes/incomplete splits the tangle tamer gave me last year! SMH! I just have accepted the fact that my fingers are best if I want to keep my hair on my head lol.
NaturalMe4C Hey chica,I have to second that motion. Your shrinkage is SO real. love your curls.
i found that if you hold the michel Mercier brush from the top and not the buttom it is so much easier
Thanks so much for this review! I've been questioning which brush to get and indeed the Denman brush, I'll be purchasing.
This brush was 14 dollars at Walmart i cant believe they want you to replace every six months 😂 lol
I'm soooooo happy you did this , I've been looking everywhere for a good rewiew on this brush!
LOL the creators of the Michel Mercier Detangling Brush are going to be like, why aren't these things selling??? Thanks Naps!
her hair is so beautiful !!!!
1:04 she said "start from the bottom"
Why did "started from the bottom" start playing in my head?
This review is so timely. I've been hearing some talk about this brush and was wondering how that handle was going to work on wet/slippery hands. Great review and thanks Whitney.!
Dear Naptural85, what Denman brush are you using in this video? Is it the d3 or d45/41? Thanks xx
Amazing review..... I agreed with your top 3 choices as if I held it myself, I was nodding my head when you counted 1-2-3 ranking!
xo
Michael mercier brush rips hair out and causes major split ends.you don't realise until its too late and have to take 4" off.
I love how u let us actually see u use each one and gave us an honest review. I think I'll be sticking to my denman brush while I transition lol
Can you do 100 pumps of conditioner
Finally viewed your comparison of the denman brush, the tangle teaser, and the Michel Mercier detangling brush, great video, and great feedback. I loved the way the Michel Mercier detangling brush clumped your curls. Based on what I viewed, I will give it a try, since I have used the denman, I would like to see if I am in agreement with your tutorial. As always, your tutorials are very informative.
That's a no for me. It doesn't seem to be ergonomic. I'll choose the Denman.
I bought the Michel marcier brush. I agree regarding the handle so I just wrapped a wash towel around the handle and it helped with the grip. When I use it dry I put about 3 large rubber bands around the handle and that works. Thanks for sharing!!💖💋
Yikes the Michelle Mercier brush had me wincing. It just doesn't look like it's meant for our hair texture. I'll be sticking to the Denman.
This brush isn't really meant for wet hair... It's for dry hair but you can use it in the shower if you want
mine said it would work on dry and wet hair but idl
*idk
your username is true😊
I disagree. It worked really well for me while wet
OMG!!! God bless you!!!! I've been seeking high and low for the comparison!!!
I think Whitney accidentally put random footage at the end of the video with a black screen lol :)
Ouch on the brushing... Yay on the Denman Brush! I don't use brushes much but I do own a black Denman Brush which I alternated the rows a bit...
I get nothing but a black screen, is anyone else having this issue?
I love how your hair is styled in this video!
The plain fact of the matter is that that brush is NOT FOR OUR HAIR. Even look at the commercial, you DO NOT SEE WOMEN OF DIFFERENT ETHNICITY USING IT.....
I only saw a mixed chick in the meircier commercial not a real black woman.
It's wrong to say that someone who is mixed isn't a real black person, they are just as black as they are white
DIY Princess They are both so you can't force them to acknowledge one side and not the other. By your logic they should be called white and you shouldn't have a problem with that. Smh
DIY Princess Okay, so she meant full blood. The fact of the matter is that she didn't have a hair texture in the 4's like a lot of full black woman so she doesn't count in this situation where they say 'our hair'.
ummm im black it works perfectly fine for me
The name sounds so elegant, probably the reason for the high price point... Good review, i usually just use a comb to detangle but if i ever decide to get a detangling brush, I'll go with the denman.
Lol Fine, "Normal", and Thick?
Welp that definitely helped me out lol! I've been looking into a finding a good detangling brush and heard about the Denman and saw ads for the Mercier brush.... now I know to go for that Denman lol, awesome review!!! :)
Not to mention I cringed every time you brushed your ends with the Mercier brush smh lol
I couldn't stop laughing at the face you made while using the Michel Mercier brush. You just looked like you were done with life.
@MutetheCity I noticed that too...she looked WAY irritated!! I'm glad she saved me from buying one
I love the Denim Brush. I remember you using it when you started youtube...and that inspired me to get one! Love it for my natural hair
I'm 15 and I was mad at my mom for having me get straight hair (perm;-;) a while back
I ended up taking my frustration out on my hair while I was in the shower brushing it harshly (I literally cried) I used a regular brush and tried to force it to work on my hair.
How did you modify your denman brush?
You can modify it by taking out every other row of bristles.
Really?!? I'll have to take a closer look at my denman brush and see if I can make some modifications of my own! Thanks girlie!
Fashionluva003 no problem, you just pull out the rubber part that the bristles are in and it opens up so you can remove them.
- She has a video on that :)
Thank you everyone...I had the same question! :-)
Whit I'd love to see a tutorial of how you styled your hair for that next day scene! Great review video!
You went over same section of hair with both brushes, how can you tell the Denman brush worked if you already detangled it with Michel Mercier Detangling Brush?
She didn't. She took more hair from above the previous part that was tested. Look carefully
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 your funny
Honey your hair is GORGEOUS !
Do you take any vitamins for your hair? +Naptural85
Hey Myrian Hale No vitamins!
Do you drink plenty of water daily? +Naptural85 I am trying to become more healthier.
Myrian Hale From what I've seen on her vlogs; it looks like she does drink plenty of water and eat plenty of fruits/vegetables.
Magnimazing thank you so much for the reply. I will give it a try.
I love the Tangle Teaser! Goes through my hair like butter. I laid down the Denman; it tore at my hair like crazy.
What in the farse is "normal" hair lmao 😂 as if every other hair is considered "abnormal" 🙄😒 smh
I think it means in between thin & thick. They should've just said medium.
Am I the only person who can't view this?
Your review helped me not waste money on the Michel Mercier brush. Thank you so much. Lawd bless your ends!
My hair did not like the tangle teezer but she loves the denman and finger detangling. Thanks for the review. Very detailed.
Thorough review. I liked the denman and tangle teazer and a good old shower comb
I will be trying both of these
Pleaase do a tutorial on how you achieved your wash and go. I love the volume and the way it looks.
using the michel mercer detangling brush, it always works better for me if you use it by brushing vertically (top to bottom).
looks like it will so a good job of detangling, but hard to grip. And you hair is gorgeous. I like your wash and goes!
I like my denman like brush as well as the tangle teaser, both work well for me,if it ain't broke don't fix it.
This is the best brow shape for you. They look awesome!
There's the Tangle Tamer at Sally's!! It's basically a tangle teaser with a handle! A MUCH BETTER handle than the mercier. It grips perfectly in your hand and doesn't slip out of your hands. I love it.
That ripping sound is like hearing a chalk board being scratched to me. Sends my heart to my stomach imaging my fine strands being broken off.
great review! every time you went thought your hair with the detangling brush and it made that ripping sound i kept cringing! Im a denman brush girl myself gets through this mop on my head in minutes :D
Thanks for the review. I wondered about MM brush. Between the tangle teaser and the denman, I agree the denman brush is great!
