Hi Lynda I stopped using my Denman because it was taking out my hair. I was informed that a Denman brush is a styling brush not a detangling brush which is why the Denman pops your curls like that. The tangle teaser actually detangle- I know...mind blown :)
I don't use any brushes on my natural hair. Brushes take out my hair. I use a wide tooth comb primarily. Sometimes I use a rattail comb for my edges and the very tips of my ends. I detangle dry to damp (spray) with apple cider vinegar and spring water mixture. Thereafter, 4 parts and detangle each section with widetooth comb.
Because the bristles are closer together and at different lengths, it will pull or collect more of your fallen hair much easier while detangling... I love your hair! ❤️

My wash day is 1-2 months. I retain so much length when I learned this. I used to get matting every 5 days. Now I just don't get it. At all. shed hair slides out. And it looks white when I apply it, but the next day its not, nor does it feel greasy. Also my 4c hair coils from the scalp to the tip and my edges have filled in. I band my hair in 4 sections, secure the back 2 sections in onthemselves into 2 mini buns. Then attatch the two front sections to the back. Result is 2 fake cornrolls. Then silk durag and wig cap and wig. I retain tons of length this way.
Girl I told my hair stylist, which was the first one I ever went to, I used a demman brush to detangle my dry hair. She almost passed out. She said that’s why I have hair loss. When I would detangle, I would lose so much hair. She showed me the proper way to do it which is soaking wet and being very gentle.
Nooooo! Pre-combing with the Tangle Teezer is essential! After you get the big kinks out, it works best for finishing the job. Also, I recommend holding the base of your hair as you comb it so you won't feel pain as you work.
I always thought that the Denman brush was more of a styling brush, meant to be used after detangling anyway. As you mentioned, it's really good at clumping curls for wash-n-go.
I threw my Denman brush in the trash three years ago. Darn thing ripped my hair out! The Tangle Teaser is a DREAM COME TRUE!!! It's all I've been using ever since.
I loooove this brush. It makes detangling any texture hair so much easier. I thought it was an overpriced piece of plastic until a hairdresser used it on me. My friend with hair texture like yours thought it wouldn't work on her hair since it's for hair like mine (super straight, super long) and it went through her afro like butter. Fantastic invention.
I've been using the tangle geezer on my 4c hair for about 6 years and it's been a godsend. I've never experienced damage or split ends with it. Just be reasonably gentle, finger detangle lightly first and do not use on completely dry hair. I recently made a video about how I modify my tangle teezer to make it even more gentler- check out my channel x
You shoul detangle w the teaser then use the demon brush for definition💗The teaser detangles but lacks definition and the demon brush defines but lacks the ability to detangle
Lord have mercy chile! This was painful to watch. The reason you're losing so much hair is because you're supposed to comb it first! Honestly speaking, neither one of those tools is appropriate for 4c hair. You need the kind of Denman brush that has balls on the tip of the bristles to smooth and detangle. I bought one from the Dollar Tree and had it for years. And instead of yanking it through from the root, use a gentler touch and smaller strokes when you feel resistance.
Natiya Cisse OHH HELL NAW.... wet brushes and paddle brushes with the balls on the tip. are BAD for kinky hair, well at least imo and other peoples.... the balls on the tips, rip off a lot of hair off and gets tangled up easy in our kinky hair ( ironically) lol
The one I was talking about is called a vent brush. It's not that different from a Denman. The balls help it slide through wet hair. Technique is everything. Others have commented how her hair is not fully saturated and she even said "I'm used to the pain"
I’ve been using the Tangle Teezer for years and it works really well for styling and detangling . I used the denman on my hair as a kid and ooo girl I can already feel my eyes watering from the pain. I think people forget the denman is no joke and you actually have to use it *properly* to get the best results. For me personally I just wanna detangle my hair and live my life. Ain’t nobody got time to *learn* how to use a brush lol. I’ll leave that to the stylists.
I appreciate this. I've never liked the denman brush despite how much some seem to rave about it. I find the denman may only be good if your curl pattern is more lose or if you have straight hair. For years I've stuck with a good ol' pick. Not the cheap metal ones but investing in one is a better alternative to all these other combing products.

I’m on my third denman brush and was thinking my hair isn’t feeling it anymore but was trying to convince myself I was trippen but this upload is great. I know what I’m getting next!
Girl, I have been natural since 2009 and when I first started my journey, I was using the tangle teezer on wet hair without any kind of butter or detangling product and my hair was thriving. Then I started watching all those natural hair care videos saying that we should finger detangle and use the denman brush and I just stopped using the tangle teezer and even forgot I had it. Now a few years later, I realized that my hair was soooo better off when I was just using the tangle teezer and all this finger detangling did nothing for my hair but making it less detangled and thus proned to single strand knots etc. I'm going back to using the teezer now! (I'm a 4c natural)
Yeah I detangle in smaller sections too with my wide teeth comb, then define the curls with my favorite product using the denman brush. If the brush doesn't go through, I don't force it at all. I just use my fingers lol.
little tip: always start detangling your hair with your fingers first. THEN you can move on with any brush that works best for you. Also dont be afraid to use more products or drench your hair, the more slip the better.
I'm white, I have curly hair, not like your curls of course, but it's curly, so it took me about 40 minutes every wash day to detangle, and I struggled sooo much and sooo long till my mom got me tangle teaser, not original, but the same bristles and all, and it saved my hair, my time, and it saved me from the paaain, I can't tell you how much I love it, but I'm glad you now know it 😁 and I don't have denman brush, but I've hears from other curly youtubers that with the denman brush you have to detangle in the way that the brush is vertically if you know what I mean, they say it's easier that way, and I've also heard that the denman brush is more for definiton than for detangling
@Episode Interactive No no, I'm not crazy 😁 I said every wash day, of course I don't wash it every day, I wash it every week, because my hair doesn't get greasy fast
Bernardica Vučić Zgb Yeah omg so when I tell like people who have straight hair that I wash my hair every week they look at me weird and they're all like "omg eww.." and I swear I wanna backhand them so bad. Also when I tell them its an hour to wash my hair they look at me as if I am lying or crazy...Lmao. They're like "really??" Im like "yeah..."
@@youneedbleach1984 I know the feeling, but I love to pick people's brain sometimes when they're rude, so I say I sometimes wash it every two weeks, I love seeing their confused faces 😂 and it's almost the truth, I do sometimes wash it after a week and a half, I refresh so it doesn't smell, and it's like I washed it few days ago, poor straight hair people, they have to wash it almost every day 😜

Tangle teaser damages your hair over time... 4c hair shouldn't be detangled while it's dry... Saturate your hair with a cheap conditioner and or oil then detangle...
I agree. I've used the tangle teezer from 2013-2017 and have noticed damage over time. When I first used it, it seemed to work great (easy to detangle, fast, convenient, etc.) and my hair looked perfectly fine, but over time, I began to notice that the condition of my hair was starting to take a nose dive. I somehow retained quite a bit of length, but about 4-6 in. of my ends were shredded and see-through (possibly also due to my iron deficiency anemia). In 2018, I decided to go back to using the old-school wide-tooth comb and occasional finger detangling. I will never use detangling brushes again!
I know girl! I'm 6 years into this natural hair journey, and I'm just trying the tangle teaser 2 washes ago. SMH! I actually bought one a couple of years ago. I looked at all those bristles, punked out, and gave it away without ever using it. All this time, I've been spending an hour finger detangling in the shower and suffocating in the steam! To experiment, I tried finger detangling 1 section. I stopped when I came across a really tangled area that would have taken me a long time to finger detangle strand-by-strand (very frequent with my 4b/c hair). I switched to the tangle teaser, and I never found that tangled area again. It was just gone. What had been an obstacle for my gentle fingers was a non-MFing factor for the tangle teaser! I've been a believer ever since. The only thing I still finger detangle are the very ends of my hair because I noticed a little snagging when I started at the very end with the tangle teaser.
Your hair is so beautuful. This is only the second video I watched of yours. But I subscribed during the first video -didn't even wait until the end. But anyway.... I used the tangle teezer when I first went natural. I stopped using it. Then I started using it again a few years later. Each time I found that this brush SHREDDED my ends. I had to trim so often. It was butter. Then I got to the ends and it just ripped through them. I just wanted to warn you so that you can watch for it and be aware as you use the brush. Maybe I was doing something wrong. That was years ago. So maybe I was. But I think that it's good to be aware of possible damage so that you can watch for it. Keep up the awesome work. I can't wait to watch more of your videos!
Well first off I'd like to say thank for having this channel in the first place it helps a lot of people. I feel when I say this I am having an unbiased opinion because I have never used either. I personally have to say that from what I see I can't really decide which is better. 1. I don't think you wet your hair as much for the Denman brush as for the tangle teaser the second one. 2. You used a bigger section for the Denman brush which means more tangles which also means more hair is gonna come out. 3. I do not know how long you've had you Denman brush but if you have had it for a while it gets that natural wear and tear. So that means when you use it, it isn't going to be as good as when you first bought it compared to the tangle teaser which you literally just got.
So interesting to watch videos like this with people with 4c hair. I have 3a/b hair and I bought the tangle teezer years ago. Initially I was quite impressed but after a while I started to really dislike it. I have quite thick hair and I felt that I never quite reached the roots of my hair with it. Been detangling with a wide toothed comb for the past years but I just bought a denman, mainly because I'm curious to try styling my hair with it and see if it adds definition. However, I can totally see why you would prefer the tangle teezer. Detangling 4c hair looks like a (painful) adventure for sure.
We gotta remember our curly - coily hair is def different! Use your fingers to detangle with conditioner or oil in it. I took my hair down yesterday DID NOT DETANGLE just used pre poo (coconut oil & peppermint oil). Then used my fingers after it sat on my hair for a bit. I then just detangled gently, washed with a detangling shampoo & conditioner and then and only then did I use the denman brush. I had little to no hair sedding or loss. Most of the products they do not make for afro centric hair so please keep that in mind. That is a lot of hair 👑. Great video new subscribet

Then silk durag and wig cap and wig. I retain tons of length this way.
Nikita Scott I love love love my Felicia Leatherwood brush. I’ve had it for years. 💁🏾♀️
tsuyu asui it’s $14
Yessss !!!!! Completely agreee
Your hair in the intro Is everything!!😍😍🤩🤩😭😭😭😭😭😭Tutorial!!
Nooooo! Pre-combing with the Tangle Teezer is essential! After you get the big kinks out, it works best for finishing the job. Also, I recommend holding the base of your hair as you comb it so you won't feel pain as you work.
Your sacrifice is appreciated. I cant lose anymore.
I always thought that the Denman brush was more of a styling brush, meant to be used after detangling anyway. As you mentioned, it's really good at clumping curls for wash-n-go.
You can use the Red by Kiss Professional Easy Grip Detangle Brush. It's just like the Tangle Teezer but a lot bigger
Sis your hair is sooo long and absolutely gorgeous. Keep it up.
I threw my Denman brush in the trash three years ago. Darn thing ripped my hair out! The Tangle Teaser is a DREAM COME TRUE!!! It's all I've been using ever since.
Why are you so pretty omg 😩❤️
I loooove this brush. It makes detangling any texture hair so much easier. I thought it was an overpriced piece of plastic until a hairdresser used it on me. My friend with hair texture like yours thought it wouldn't work on her hair since it's for hair like mine (super straight, super long) and it went through her afro like butter. Fantastic invention.
i ditched any type of comb/brush and stick to finger detailing. takes longer but definitely not ripping out any unnecessary hairs
Beautiful hair and skin. You are stunning !!!
“4c girls can’t grow their hair” um what? This is just another example that uh YES THEY CAN. Your hair is gorgeous ugh❤️❤️
The denman is a styling brush. It should be used after your hair is detangled to create defined curls.
What's your name are you Channel please
Natiya Cisse 🤦🏽♀️
You mean a paddle brush?
Actually, I think it's called a vent brush.
16:57, you're welcome.
“Saving edges”, “saving hair”, “saving lives” I can’t with you 😂
Girl as soon as you pulled out the elastaQP I subscribed. That moisturizer CHANGED MY HAIR. Idgaf what people say about "products don't matter" ERRKSS this one does. Haha just had to let my fellow 4C hair sis know the plug
When i see a black sister with natural hair and proud of it , i feel like; 👍👌👏👏👏👏 its Gorgeous !
I’m on my third denman brush and was thinking my hair isn’t feeling it anymore but was trying to convince myself I was trippen but this upload is great. I know what I’m getting next!
"Saving Lives," I had to smile.
Yasssss you Haitian I needed a Haitian beauty RUclipsr💖💖🇭🇹🇭🇹
Omg you are sooooo pretty
Bro your intro is everything🤩
Girrrrl! You should never have PAIN just detangling your hair! Try smaller sections and don't force it! Sheeeesh😮
Your skin is amazing 😍😍😍😍 beautiful woman ( dark skin Ashanti )
I identify with you and the detangling struggle. Your expression at 13:49 is me so much. Excellent video!
You're stunning omg 😍
BEAUTIFUL HAIR!
MY STANDARDS OF BEAUTY!😍
@@youneedbleach1984 I know the feeling, but I love to pick people's brain sometimes when they're rude, so I say I sometimes wash it every two weeks, I love seeing their confused faces 😂 and it's almost the truth, I do sometimes wash it after a week and a half, I refresh so it doesn't smell, and it's like I washed it few days ago, poor straight hair people, they have to wash it almost every day 😜
You Need Bleach I’m and everyday/every other day washer because I have naturally oily skin. My wow always notates aw and jealousy that you don’t have to wash everyday!
You Need Bleach I’m one of those people with naturally straight hair, typical Scandinavian blonde actually, but it’s really thick compared to a lot of my friends hair. I only wash it once per week and it takes about an hour for me as well. None of My swedish friends understand this because their hair is so thin and fine compared to mine and they react the exact same way when I say it! It’s because the are jealous though.. 😂
I love the Tangle Teezer! No matter how I try to detangle or style my hair with the Denman Brush it rips my hair out!
Yeah I’m not in love with my denman brush neither
You have the MOST beautiful hair EVER!!
Try Snappee hair ties. I use smaller sections when I detangle with the denman brush to prevent breakage.
This is my favorite video in a minute! !!! Absolutely ordering this TODAY from amazon for my daughter! Super pumped. So happy you found a product that worked:). Saving edges, saving hair, saving lives. ...lol
Combing through your hair with a wide tooth comb, might help before going straight in with a brush
Smaller sections and maybe try the one made for Thick, Curly, Coarse hair. It has thicker and longer bristles.
Get a 5 row den brush or remove every other row your loosing too much hair from both spritz hair with Aloe vera juice to use as a detangler and you won’t lose as much hair you probably won’t lose any
shouts to you for being vulnerable. id be TIGHT!
Haha I just lost my denman brush and was considering getting a new one or tangle teaser. Timely video 👍
Kaci Richards How is that funny thou?!
"Out here saving edges! Saving lives!" 😂😂😂
lmao! "Sis get you a tangle teaser"!
You're so gorgeous 😫😭😍😍✨
Don't you just love how people try to give tips on how to deal with hair like all hair is the same.
North Pittman tell me about it 🤦🏿♀️
You are absolutely gorgeous, and so is your hair. I’m praying my hair get as long as yours I’m a 4c I believe
Your skin is so pretty ! You kind of look like Ashanti to me.🙂
your hair is so beautiful!!!
You are gorgeous 😍 the camera definitely loves you! You are giving face yassss huntey beautiful!
Nigeria squad 🇳🇬
👇🏾
Thank you for sacrificing your scalp and edges for our education
I love your intro!!
I had the same exact reaction 😂. I was out here loosing hair for no reason 😭😂
You’re so freaking prettttty ❤️ gurrrlllll
u're so pretty.
Sis ur beautiful 😍
Can you try the Felicia leatherwood brush pls ? 😘
You bought the wrong tangle teaser. There is a version for afro hair.
