I'm sure you did better than you thought. You're a very smart, studious, driven, and hard-working woman. There's absolutely nothing you can do about it and you did the absolute best that you could do. Just clear your head, forget about it, and just enjoy the rest of your summer. You've earned it and deserve a much-needed break before school starts again. You're amazing Sabrina!

I just have to comment and congratulate you on taking the MCAT a second time. It takes a lot of courage and dedication to get through it, believe me, I have taken the test three times. After receiving my score the first two times I was absolutely heartbroken. In my case, third time was a charm and I'm finally starting medical school next week. Believe me, you will get there. So many times I've wanted to throw in the towel but if you never give up it WILL happen! Stay positive and it will come!

Hey, Sabrina! I've watched a couple of your MCAT vids, and they definitely kept me inspired to continue prepping for the exam every time I became tired of doing so. Shortly after signing up for the July 22nd test date, I saw that you had too! While watching this video update, I realized, "Gee, I'm not the only one who felt iffy about the Physics/Chem and Bio/Biochem sections?" I agree that the CARS was easy (especially compared to the NextStep practice ones) and that the Behavioral Sciences wasn't too bad either. But all the same, we've still got until Aug. 23rd before knowing how well it went. Judging from your other vids, you seem to be a diligent worker, so stay up! God crowns the efforts of those who put him first! -Proverbs 3:6
-And have a blessed time in England!

Sabrina, please don't worry too much about the MCAT or getting into medical school this year. At the same time, I know how easy it is to say that versus actually doing it. Just know that I did 10 points better on my MCAT retake than the first time I took it even though I didn't feel that much different afterwards. You never really know what's going to happen. But at the same time, after watching your other videos, I really implore you to look into taking a gap year. I know you want to go straight into med school if possible, but I believe it will do you a world of good. This application cycle will mark the start of my third gap year (I graduated undergrad in 2014). And I will be the first person to admit that I never planned on taking so much time off, but it gave me so much more confidence and reassurance that healthcare was the field I truly wanted to pursue. I worked in a large medical facility during this time, did a lot of traveling, and explored other things I didn't have time to as a student. Medical school marks the beginning of a very long journey ahead. The current medical field has many flaws that many students don't realize until they are face to face with them. And I've met several outstanding physicians who would not encourage their own children to go down this path. I really encourage you to spend a little more time finding your own strengths in medicine (not just academically), and from that you will find your voice as a future healthcare leader. I believe that you will get there, just make sure you don't rush through anything. If you ever want to talk about any experiences (MCAT, applications, gap years, life in general, etc), I'm always here.

Never give up on your dream, you're so capable, and you'll do great things outside of the MCAT ^.^

So proud of your hard work Sabrina. I hope you succeed in your adventure, and whether or not med school is the answer, you KNOW that you worked so hard for it. Spend this time relaxing. You've worked hard and sometimes luck may or may not fall into our hands. Also--not sure if you're considering DO school, but that might be an option for you. It is medical school, just you will be earning the title as a doctor of osteopathic medicine (DO), instead of medical doctor (MD). Good luck and be sure to keep us updated! Love you! I've been watching your videos for years now....remembering the good days of the NYX awards and all, haha. Take some time off to cool down and just enjoy life. You've got a long way and you don't have to over stress yourself. Sending lots of love

I wrote Saturday, and everything you described was my exact experience--especially the not sleeping part and the poorer performance on the B/B and C/P. I always feel like everyone else writing has a much stronger hard-science understanding than me and that I'm just so much slower getting through those parts.

Hey, you are going to get the score you need! I took the 4/1 exam this year and felt very similar to you. My B/B section was outlandishly hard and I thought I did the worst on it. Turns out it was my highest score! Conversely, I thought I rocked CARS... but it turned out to be my lowest.
If you were scoring between 505-511 on practice tests you can be assured that you scored near that!

Don't worry too much about chem/phys. If you take a look at the June 18, 2016 MCAT Reddit thread, we were losing our minds over chem/phys and bio/biochem, too. AAMC curves chem/phys the best, so the Scalian Gods will most likely curve to your advantage haha

    • @luckyhour3858

+thestick ofthruth Yes there is. Otherwise you would get your score immediately after you finished. There would be no need for a month long delay if they don't use some kind of curve scoring system.

Took the July 22nd test. I can relate to bio section. My C/P had a lot of physics too which sucks because I wasn't prepared to tackle those calculation questions. CARS is usually my worst and psych section is usually average. So we will see how we did on Aug 23rd. Hopefully we did good and can apply this cycle.

Hi. I am messaging you because I need help with the CARS section of the MCAT. My exam is coming up and I don't really know where I'm at with the Verbal section. I have been practicing 6 days/week and average about 60% correct on the passages I do, timed. I can't seem to improve and I really want to. I have been using Next Step and Princeton Review passages. Do you know which test I can use to get a good idea of where I'm at in terms of just CARS? I don't want to use the AAMC full length's just yet.

I gave my med school entrance exam yesterday, I think you and I are in pretty much the same position... I usually find biology section easy but this time sadly it wasn't since there were a lot of questions which weren't in my practice books, I studied a lot of Chem before test 'cause I find it more scoring than physics but it didn't seem like that in the exam plus I made a lot of silly mistakes which I insanely regret right now, lastly physics has always been tough I couldn't complete the entire section in time 😭😭😭 I literally just don't feel like talking to anyone right now 'cause I really put a lot of belief and hard work into this but it didn't go as expected

I feel like you know your stuff, obviously, you studied for two months straight. But listening to what you say makes me think that all the anxiety you create around the exam is what works against you.
You need to have confidence as someone who has studied for two months, and you need to have your sleep before the exam, you need a rested brain.
When you get to med school (because you will get there) you need to have confidence as well. It's not just about knowing the material but knowing how to apply it right.

It doesn't seem to me that your knowledge base is the problem. From listening to your comments the format of the test seems to be the issue. If the questions are written in an experimental mode versus a straightforward mode you have to change your approach. If you could give us more details on the specific ways in which these questions are worded we might be able to offer some suggestions.
I also think your problem may lie in your lacking an analytical approach. You can learn this. You must focus on the structure of the test. It's not a question of taking and retaking exams. It's a question of metacognition. Thinking about your thinking. You state the wording of the questions is the problem. Could you begin to analyze the ways you react to the questions themselves? This could be an area of personal research for you.

    • @failyourwaytothetop
      @failyourwaytothetop 8 лет назад +1

+sooutstanding31 I'm also doing a career change. I currently work as a math high school teacher. I am ready for this change now. I think often on these tests and realize those that score in the 99th percentile connect with the test in a way that goes beyond mere book knowledge. It has to do with metacognition or thinking about your thinking. The questions are being asked in a way that is not resonating with the way some think. It's as if the frequencies are off. As static during a call many are not in tune with the test. That has to be addressed and repaired. Uselessly studying more and more information yet the score is not increasing means that an area is not being adressed. It has to be the format of the test itself and how the test taker is reacting to this form. Bridging the gap between the two may be a good starting point to remedy the problem. It may be a misalignment issue between the two - the test taker and the test.

+Sine Analysis Dental admission test (Dat) I'm a shipyard pipefitter. I'm going back to college next month part-time and would have to do a post baccalaureate because of my gpa, and i need more science classes. i believe most dental programs are willing to accept a dat score up to 3 years after the exam and med schools up to 2 years. The dat can only be taken 3 times. I'm in my early 30s, most people would be done with med or dental school by my age. a lot of doctors wonder if the grass is greener on the other side. at least i explored other jobs first. Good luck on your career change as well.

You'll make an interesting story once you become a doctor. From pipefitter to MD. You'll score high on your medical school interviews because you are a unique case. You can bring a unique perspective to medicine given your background. Non-trads are sought after because we already have the discipline and maturity to deal with patients.
