Donating to the W.H.O. is a terrible idea. I respect your intentions but they are responsible for far greater loss of life through this pandemic.
Their spread of misinformation was a result of their corruption from the Chinese authorities. They claimed for a while that humans could not even spread the disease by droplets despite the evidence.

WHO seems to be controlled by China and the controversy they made is just outrageous, i would indeed not donate to the WHO after finding out what they did earlier this year, not to mention dodging the question of Chinas involvement with them. Cool and entertaining vid tho.

I had convinced my sister to join me in the game at that time. I had not played for a couple of weeks and uh ... was largely unaware of what had happened. I had exams at the time so I never checked out the new patch before trying to bring my sister in.
We both made level 1 characters to level together but uh ... that ... happened. So naturally I booted the lvl 60 warrior to check out what the devil was that about and then realized the large scale of the issue.
My sister always has been lucky when trying video games. Back in the NES era, she managed to get Zelda II and Castlevania games that actually were flawed and impossible to finish. Her first Wii never worked. So forth.
I don't know what's up with her really. Every time she touches something electronic it mysteriously starts to fail. Which is why I never allowed her to touch my rig.
I ain't superstitious about anything. Except her ability to render electronic stuff non working in a record time.
She ain't getting anywhere near my rig, ever.

@@valan2736 My first and main character at the time was a paladin, and I hit 60 right before corrupted blood. The paladins on my server organized a server-wide chat, we set up coordinated aid stations in high-traffic areas and near flight masters, and ran them in shifts 24/7. We even went so far as to organize healer raids into the cities for players to do their banking, auctioning, and questing. My most vivid memories of WoW at the time were bubbling to run into auction houses and banks, throwing out as many heals as I could, and running out before DS wore off.
I went straight from level 55-60 greens/blues to Freethinker's and Judgment, thanks to corrupted blood. Several guilds on my server stopped progression and suspended DKP to organize tier 0-2 raids specifically to gear up healers to help in the overworld. I never even got my banana suit until Cataclysm. Getting my charger at this time is my all-time favorite WoW memory.
There were a few of us in the chat who hadn't gotten our chargers yet, and the raiders were having NONE of it. Their guilds chipped in and got us the arcanite, diamonds, and arthas' tears, and we organized this blowout server all-star paladin raid. Out of ten paladins, one had Thunderfury (the only one on the server at the time), another had Sulfuras, and three grand marshals were in this raid. That's how high-octane this raid was, and we spent the whopping twenty minutes it took to full-clear Scholo with mass pulls pissing ourselves with laughter on Ventrilo. After working nonstop for weeks together to put a dent in that shitshow, I think we all needed the catharsis.

Players who got the plague died after a while. Paladins could trigger the death with their bubble. NPCs were also affected by the plague.
The plague was pretty harmless in the beginning and got stronger after a few days. To the point where you couldn't dispel it, high possibility that you get infected and stronger ghouls that exploded. You also died after 2-3 minutes and turned into a ghoul.
Blizzard had to stop the event because people killed essential NPCs with the plague.

@@grimmdul9808 Not entirely true. The plague was always planned to be a 5 day event. You would always turn into a ghoul when the timer reached zero. Day one the timer was 5 minutes and on the last day it was just a minute. The forums never saw so much crying. It was immense. There were people in my guild just horrified at those of us that were enjoying it and vehemently arguing with us in a desperate attempt to prove that this was bad for the game. Seriously, I don't understand why the people who hated it needed to push that on others instead of just chill for 5 days, but I digress. The plague was always dispellable by paladins and priests. The forum QQ caused Blizzard to add in Argent Dawn NPC's near the AH and banks of major cities that would automatically cleanse anyone with the disease who came near them.
I remember having so much fun with this. Lower city in Shatt was just over run with ghouls all thanks to me. Wanted to see the tailoring trainer or the lower city quartermaster? Too bad. Priest and paladin trainers in SW cathedral...nope. Not when I was online anyways. 😃 I'm a dick, and proud of it.

The Corrupted Blood plague is one of the most fascinating moments in MMORPG history for me. The fact that it came about naturally, and spread essentially as a real pandemic would; that players created quarantines and enforced social distancing and that medics literally tried to heal the sick. It feels like an event that would happen in a real, living world. It also fascinates me that apparently the plague was even studied by epidemiologists in order to gain some understanding about the spread and control of real pandemics.

    • @billytringuyen1

Another funny thing is the fact that people were intentionally spreading it or completely disregarding all instructions to stay in quarantine which are both extremely common real world circumstances and the #1 and #2 major problems with real world epidemics. No joke. Doesn't matter how effective treatments are if people aren't even getting them, haha. XD

    • @Ashtari
      @Ashtari 11 месяцев назад

@@jamesofallthings3684 Vaccines are vaccines if they reduce both the chance of catching the illness and the severity of the illness. Not every virus is the same, some are very much the "get it once and never again" virus (measles, chicken pox, polio), and those respond to vaccines the way you think they should. Other viruses are repeat offenders (influenza, covid, pneumonia), so vaccines don't work as well for prevention BUT do reduce the chance you'll get them by preparing your immune system early. This also means that if you do catch them, the illness won't be as severe because your immune system will already be prepared to fight it off.
