Those first diabolical hunters back in the day who experimented with hiding their pet after infection deserve a server first achievement and title "Plague Bringer"
The Corrupted Blood plague is one of the most fascinating moments in MMORPG history for me. The fact that it came about naturally, and spread essentially as a real pandemic would; that players created quarantines and enforced social distancing and that medics literally tried to heal the sick. It feels like an event that would happen in a real, living world. It also fascinates me that apparently the plague was even studied by epidemiologists in order to gain some understanding about the spread and control of real pandemics.
Another funny thing is the fact that people were intentionally spreading it or completely disregarding all instructions to stay in quarantine which are both extremely common real world circumstances and the #1 and #2 major problems with real world epidemics. No joke. Doesn't matter how effective treatments are if people aren't even getting them, haha. XD
@@spankyjeffro5320 And what are those effective treatments you're referring to? I can only assume. Vaccines aren't vaccines if you can still catch the thing you're vaccinated from.
@@jamesofallthings3684 Vaccines are vaccines if they reduce both the chance of catching the illness and the severity of the illness. Not every virus is the same, some are very much the "get it once and never again" virus (measles, chicken pox, polio), and those respond to vaccines the way you think they should. Other viruses are repeat offenders (influenza, covid, pneumonia), so vaccines don't work as well for prevention BUT do reduce the chance you'll get them by preparing your immune system early. This also means that if you do catch them, the illness won't be as severe because your immune system will already be prepared to fight it off.

I am prob too late to the party but just wanted to add a mini-fact, the first hunter player that caused Blood Plague to spread to outside world didnt do it on purpose he simply wanted to save his pet from dying during the boss fight so you could say that road to hell is paved with good intentions :)
@@EnderGoku9001 Why would he abandon the pet when he had no idea what was about to happen because of it? I am pretty attached to some of the pets on my hunter and I would be pretty hesitant to abandon them.

8:45 - "Hakkar is confirmed to have a presence in the Shadowlands, so maybe we will get another mass extinction very soon". Fast forward to year and a half later... Oh boy.
I'm firmly in the camp of missing the zombie plague. That was a ton of fun It would be awesome if a future zone had some kind of similar event, even limited to that zone, so you could go and enjoy it over there
Playing FFXIV this is like the equivalent of if you put the Burr burrow debuff in every town and city.... OUTSIDE OF A DUNGEON, and it constantly kept going up and never ended.
One thing you forgot to mention is that there was some discussion about studying the player's responses to the plague since they seemed to mirror what we have seen of some smaller outbreaks beforehand. It was thought that the players were too reckless because they could always resurrect. Covid proved that not only was the estimation of people's survival instincts wrong, it also showed there were a lot more griefers IRL than in game.
Ah one of the best chapters in the history of hunters. I always love to come and listen to our stories and remember our great comrades who carried out the sacred duty of every hunter: “Yes, this is indeed a hunter weapon”
I heard this plaque was so realistic in showing how people reacted to its effects and spread, that a group of scientists even studied it to find how better to deal with real life virus outbreaks in future.
I remember seeing that whole thing unfold as it happened. Archimonde was my home server and the entire situation was absolutely hilarious 😂😂. One of my favorite WoW memories back then.
I remember when this happened in game... bones as far as the eye could see in Orgrimar and Ironforge. Fortunately I was maining a holy priest at the time and already used to healing people through that. I remember trying to save people from the plague.
*everybody is freaking dying* "I have this weird feeling that something bad is happening. "Oh yeah? What makes you say that" *drops dead* "Oh, I dunno."

A well edited, well explained and of course, absolutely hilarious video. Idk how but the random Nelf dances, silly dialogues, all toon faces & expressions make me laugh throughout the video.😆 Great video mate. ❤️
I helped spread this back in the day. Good times! Not as a hunter though. I regret not doing it more as it was the one a lifetime event where everything just aligned for it not to just be a bug but so much more.
I love watching videos about older WoW since i’m 19 and couldn’t play then, and i’ve watched serval videos about the plague but this one was top tier, 100% the best i’ve seen.
I loved that jab at "girl" players. Most of the times if a "girl" was dancing on a mailbox for money, it was a G.I.R.L, Guy in real life, behind it. XD
Never understood the obsession with the players gender. why care? yes some minority of players ARE female in real life but many of them are much less likely to "dance on a mailbox for money" as I at least hope most women have self respect.
I didn't get in on the first one, but I was a brand new baby player when the WoTLK one happened. I had NO idea what was happening and I kept dying. Called my adult kids who had gifted me the game and said "Okay, what am I doing wrong here?" They laughed, got on the game, and picked up the virus and then hugged me. Yeah, my kids were that kind of people (still are). I do have fond memories of that, though, and I wish they would do something similar in-game in the future.
I remember this when I was playing Vanilla. It was actually quite fun for me since I was one of the assholes trying to spread it intentionally. lol good times.

It literally would not be a more perfect time for Blizz to bring this plague back for a little while
imagine wow coming back from self destruct mode by the power of CORONAAAAA!
@@zeehero7280 it did make a return, Valdrakken was on fire with it a while back
"Man, would it be cool to rip off Pokemon in WoW one day, like pets battling or something, No, no, no, that sounds pretty dumb"
Burn, oof
Hunters got told Zin'rokh, Destroyer of Worlds was on res for warriors so they released the plague upon Azeroth.
It also fascinates me that apparently the plague was even studied by epidemiologists in order to gain some understanding about the spread and control of real pandemics.
so epidemiologists have to use video games to learn how to control disease? lol sound fake as fuck
XD
Spread as a real pandemic would? I don't hide in corners waiting to cough on people as they walk by when I have the flu.
I love that wow advertisements play before this every single time I come to watch it again.
I am prob too late to the party but just wanted to add a mini-fact, the first hunter player that caused Blood Plague to spread to outside world didnt do it on purpose he simply wanted to save his pet from dying during the boss fight so you could say that road to hell is paved with good intentions :)
weird idea but what if he abandoned that pet and replaces it with another from the pet trainer? Surely a hunter like him has more than one
EnderGoku9001 He probably loved his pet and cared about it and didn’t want it to die
@@EnderGoku9001 Why would he abandon the pet when he had no idea what was about to happen because of it? I am pretty attached to some of the pets on my hunter and I would be pretty hesitant to abandon them.
@@EnderGoku9001 believe it or not
But main reason i Play Bm hunter is to Rp..
I take good cares of my pets ^^
5:10 made me shed tears... so touching :'(
It was, but then I laughed when the scene ended ubruptly
the quality was orgasmic
Heard this story so many times from different RUclipsrs. This was the best delivery.
Here before Withered Jim reacts.
actually bald
@J M asmongold
LOL!!! That is the best nickname for Asmobald I've heard yet. Bravo Sir!!

I still remember me and my wife guarding the entrance to northshire abbey to protest the new players.
We did the same during the undead event.
Good times
The guy banging his head repeatedly on a boulder is such a mood for 2020
That’s the tank lol
8:45 - "Hakkar is confirmed to have a presence in the Shadowlands, so maybe we will get another mass extinction very soon".
Fast forward to year and a half later... Oh boy.
OMG the boar coughing at the beginning just CRACKED me up for some reason.
When Nurgle decides to unleash a daemonic plague upon Azeroth:
Two years later and even the thought of the scene with the pig's first cough makes me burst into laughs xD
I’ll never forget the clip of the plague spreading set to the “everyone has aids” song from Team America World Police…
I'm firmly in the camp of missing the zombie plague. That was a ton of fun
It would be awesome if a future zone had some kind of similar event, even limited to that zone, so you could go and enjoy it over there
Playing FFXIV this is like the equivalent of if you put the Burr burrow debuff in every town and city.... OUTSIDE OF A DUNGEON, and it constantly kept going up and never ended.
Aurum Vale Savage: Eorzea Edition.... oh god xD
That boar coughing has got me laughing like hell
I would definitely say yes to more history videos like this, coupled with your amazing editing, this was very entertaining
This is the best editing for wow I’ve ever seen
And you still checks comments from a vid 3 years ago sub earned
Ah one of the best chapters in the history of hunters.
I always love to come and listen to our stories and remember our great comrades who carried out the sacred duty of every hunter:
“Yes, this is indeed a hunter weapon”
"Maybe we'll get *ANOTHER* mass extinction"
FFXIV: "You have *NO* idea
I heard this plaque was so realistic in showing how people reacted to its effects and spread, that a group of scientists even studied it to find how better to deal with real life virus outbreaks in future.
This was the best so far! Excellent showing, let's all hope for more blood! :D
This sounds freaking hilarious. Must have been a joy playing back then.
This was so amazingly edited, amazing job man!
I'm flattered! Thanks i appreciate it :)
I spat out my food when I heard the headless horseman laugh.
dude I love this video. I would love to see more documentary style things like this
Thanks! It means a lot
*everybody is freaking dying*
"I have this weird feeling that something bad is happening.
"Oh yeah? What makes you say that" *drops dead*
"Oh, I dunno."
OMG this so amazingly well done. Thank you so much this made my day.
Glad you liked it Yazan, much appreciated :)
damn i lost my breathe when the boar coughed near the start, from then on i knew id love this video
Yesssss a new Captain Grim video!! Great way to start the day. Thank you brother!
Thanks for stopping by :)
I would take shifts curing infected people who ran in to the auction house with the intent to spread it to everyone who was there trying to shop - good times.
I really hoped that the bug would be back in Classic WoW too :(
I love it that the raiders are the same as your previous video, I hope they become recurring characters.
A well edited, well explained and of course, absolutely hilarious video. Idk how but the random Nelf dances, silly dialogues, all toon faces & expressions make me laugh throughout the video.😆
Great video mate. ❤️
I helped spread this back in the day. Good times! Not as a hunter though. I regret not doing it more as it was the one a lifetime event where everything just aligned for it not to just be a bug but so much more.
The appropriate use of “somethings not quite right..” here killed me
didnt they actually use this to get some data about spreading and stuff?!
yep! there was some research around this, but it's been covered so much in every other corrupted blood video, so I thought I'd skip it :)
@@CaptainGrim ofc, nice vid as always!
Yes and it may have helped scientist build an hypothesis on how Corona would spread. But people are dumb and it spread like wildfire anyway.
@@dinovoldo544 0,04% death rate from covid-19 for people from age 0-60. :)

Once again, hilarious! 🤣🤣 I wasn’t playing WOW at the time this happened, but I’ve heard about it plenty of times.
A pleasure as always, thanks again Grim **cheers**
Happy to hear it! And thanks for dropping by
You forgot to add that doctors and health groups actually studied this event as a example of how plagues spread
After I heard you're donating the revenue I went and turned off the adblock just for this video. great thing you're doing!
Well, I do main a hunter. So it's time for me to go out there and spread the corona further. It's my hunter duty.
All part of the Jailer's master plan.
I see Captain Grim's video in notification, I click, I smash like, then I watch :3
I love watching videos about older WoW since i’m 19 and couldn’t play then, and i’ve watched serval videos about the plague but this one was top tier, 100% the best i’ve seen.
Love your work man. Always funny. This event was hilarious at the time, I also remember the baron bomb terrorists blowing up the auction house.
This is much different than your other videos, but I absolutely loved watching the whole thing. So nostalgic.
What about that one time warlocks released a living bomb at the auction house ? 🙃
The difference is comparing apples to jet fighters.
Living bomb was a non transmissible one time thing, the plague was self replicating.
A good bomb does help keep the Auction Bots twitchy.
this video is soo good! Thanks for taking me back!
@@zeehero7280 >women
>self-respect

i really love the healthy boar changing to a decaying boar
This video is gold..
The orc speaking with his pet holy shit this made my day
I didn't get in on the first one, but I was a brand new baby player when the WoTLK one happened.
I love it! Thanks for the glorious video! As always :)
