A great short section full of slot canyons and narrows. The drop down into Round Valley Draw slot canyon was gnarly but I did it! I later learned that most of the other Haydukers did the alternate down into the slot to avoid the drop. Once the canyon opened up into Hackberry Canyon I followed the creek to the road. I was reunited with the Paria River which I have a history with (got caught in a flash flood while hiking Wire Pass to White House through Buckskin Gulch and up Paria Canyon in 2015! Video here- • PARIA CANYON FLASH FLO... ) and enjoyed walking in the creamsicle-colored water. I met a day hiker in Willis Creek and hiked with her to the trailhead. She drove me to pick up my food cache, camped together, and drove me into Tropic the next day. And guess what?! We're still friends a year later and I've gotten to meet up with her in Colorado and camp with her in Arizona! We were destined to meet!
Path for this section: Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument-Walk Cottonwood Canyon dirt road from near Grosvenor Arch to Round Valley Draw and drop into slot canyon that turns into Hackberry Canyon. Follow Hackberry Canyon till it hits Cottonwood Canyon Rd further South and then turn North up the Paria River. Follow Paria to Sheep Creek to Willis Creek to the trailhead at Skutumpah Rd. Hitch into Tropic.

I've been making up this radical nontraditional lifestyle as I go for over a decade, which has led me all across the world and over 10,000 miles traversed by human-power. I never know what my year will bring and I wouldn't want it any other way. Follow along while I figure it out!
