Intelligence Report:
"By 2142, Cerbre Landing was the last EU stronghold on the European continent. The port served as the chief defensive hub for the EUs Northern Mediterranean operations. Tasked with seizing the harbor, PAC General Yuri Vladomirovic used commando units equipped with the new IT-33 Optical Camouflage to infiltrate the city. Once inside they sabotaged the defenses, allowing the General to land his forces in the main harbor. There they faced the Hell Brigade, the EUs premiere infantry unit, assigned to defend the city. The ensuing violence would establish Cerbre Landing as the most fierce and costly battle of the Cold War."

The opening gives much atmosphere towards the storyline: Cerbere is the last ground in Europe for EU.
Indeed you can feel the feeling of the EU troops as they make their last stand here in Europe, before retreating to Africa, abandoning their homelands.
I looked up cerbere is a city on the france spanish border. I wonder if the EU had a base on majorca.
+4T3hM4kr0n! The EU isn't a military organization. That goes to NATO. Since the United States doesn't appear in BF 2142, perhaps the EU replaced NATO as a military alliance.
4T3hM4kr0n! Chill out man. The EU is the European Union. The EU does provide a mutual defense plan, but it largely depends on France and Britain, who alone spend more than 50% of the EU's total defense budget.

well that makes sense since most of the levels are in france, africa and germany. Lets not forget that the EU characters all have british accents (except for the commander)
I think it is straight up stated in the game that the EU basically becomes a federal nation state in its own right. Things are heading in that direction at the minute anyway, by 2142 it may even be the case.
Wish I could still play this game with the 64p coop SP mod. I had fun modding the hell out of that mod. Things like Cerbere Landing and Gibraltar, sticking EU on attack, giving myself planes to fly to the rear of Gibraltar. Man, fun times.

But there is one interesting fact. In the Intro the EU wins the battle at Cerbere landing.

Yeah but I thought the storyline of BF2142 is there was some giant ice age thing, and the two forces, PAC and EU are fighting to control the last bits of land on Earth that are habitable. So... Falling back would be like sunbathing in the fridge/freezer.
Yes, true, but they wouldn't be fighting to get South if they could live sustainably in the IP.

I still don't get why they want Europe. It'd be like the island in Crysis 1 after the Ceph froze the place.
Guess they hoped to wipe out the EU forces on their own turf, without risking the damage of Africa's vital infrastructure.
