Greatly appreciate your videos. I took my son to Cozumel in March for Spring Break and we used the tips from your video. I was thrilled to see a video about San Pedro hubby and I are going in May! Thanks
Hi There Pierce! Really appreciate your feedback! Great to hear you’ve appreciated our video guides for multiple places now. 😀🌈. Hope you have subscribed. FYI. We have two more top rated videos for Playa Del Carmen just across the water from Cozumel, and, San Ignacio area which is the mainland side of Belize where many excursions are done from San Pedro (as well as a couple excursion videos there). You should find them helpful - Have you seen those?
Love Ambergris Caye! The north end of the island is an adventure! Solitary, quiet, beautiful! The people are fun, friendly and helpful. The Truck Stop is an absolute MUST!! We were there on Family Feud Night. GREAT fun!! Such a great place! And grab a coffee and breakfast bagel at Marbuck's Coffee House. Fresh, delicious, delightful.
Great video. I am using this to plan out my 1 week dive trip in June. Tons of great information. The golf carts, the flight/ferry options, food, and lodging. All seem very very helpful. Thank you!
Thanks for the video. My first trip was with my father (who owned, with partners, the dive shop at Ramons Reef Resort in the early 80's). I loved seeing the ring toss game, as I remember that Ramon's had the same (way back when) and Ramon would laughingly say, "If I play one of my staff members and lose, I know they haven't been working...they've been playing this game." RIP Ramon, and we'll see you again soon "La Isla Bonita"! (Lafayette, LA)
I've never been to Belize. But on New Years eve of 2022, I'm moving to Ambergris Caye. I haven't watched many videos on the place, this is the first one I've watched. Now, I'm excited. This place is just what Dr. Jim has in mind for a remedy.
How exciting for you, Belize is such a beautiful country. We also did a couple of videos on San Ignacio, Xunantunich and exploring crystal caves. So many adventures in Belize, have a wonderful life there!!!!
I def felt underwhelmed returning from vacationing in Belize. Disappointed that Ambergris Caye is so dilapidated and many of the restaurant prices are California prices.
I enjoyed watching your video, so I subscribed and put notifications on. We are considering a trip down there. I hope to see more to do and where to stay videos soon. Are you guys from Arizona? Your vid was very helpful and encouraging. Thank you for sharing.
Great video, we just got back from San Pedro and stayed at Ramon's Dive Village, it was great but the dinner menu wasn't. We loved going snorkeling, we use Belizecatamaran from the Palapa dock. The did a full day trip which hit Hol Chan & Shark Alley, then went to The Split at Caye Caulker for 40 mins. The Truck stop was a great place to eat, we hit that twice and hit Blue Bayou as well. 2 weeks before we got there, a US tourist was shot & killed at Jaguars. Caught in the crossfire betwen 2 gangs, heavy police activity when we went down there. My sons (21 & 19) went there and even the locals told him it wasn't a smart move. Our biggest take away was how nice the residents are, my 2 boys hung out with 2 workers from Ramon's. My wife would recommend a food tour, we met a local at the San Pedro sign and she brought us to 5 local restaurants to try Belize food. My kids and wife liked it a lot, I was sick and a picky eater, but it was just nice talking to the people there.
Thank you for the recommendations in the comments. Belize is so beautiful!!!! Sounds like you had an incredible vacation. We also went to San Ignacio, really quite different than Ambergris we did some tubing through crystal caves and swam through the ATM cave- super incredible. If you head back to Belize check out those as well. We have a couple of videos that we put out on those trips. Thanks again for watching we really appreciate it!
We did the tour from Mahogany Bay Resort, they pick you up on their dock to take you out. Sorry can't remember the name of the company but if you search Mahogany Bay Resort you will find it.
Do you have to book the flight to the island prior? Or do they take you right away from the airport without booking in advance? Great video! Thanks for sharing!
I would definitely recommend booking ahead of time because the plane holds such a small amount of passengers. Depending on the season the flight could get booked up quickly. Thanks for watching the video, hope you have an amazing time!!!! We also went to San Ignacio, we have a dedicated video to that as well. Adventures everywhere in Belize : )
If you still haven't gone, google Maya Air or Tropic Air and search flights from Belize International to San Pedro, those are the two main airlines, round trip flight should cost 85-90USD, the flight is about 15 minutes long. It is definitely separate from your international flight and should be booked in advance. You can also take a ferry from the airport but its more of a headache, have to get a ride to the ferry terminal and the ferry ride is about two hours (and you're saving only 20-40$).
Any beach volleyball courts? I didn't see any in the video, hoping you might have noticed in your travels. Heading to San Pedro hopefully this winter 😊
Hi Kristine. Thanks for watching. Be sure to check out our other videos for the mainland side of Belize - San Ignacio, river caving, and Xunantunich. I doubt there is much beach volleyball on Ambergris as there really aren’t many beaches and they are quite small. I would guess your best bet might be out in the Secret Beach area.
Great video. I'm now planning a trip there. What airline or travel site do you use/recommend for booking? I can't seem to find good options out of the Phoenix area.
Hi Tommy. We sure are. We are producing our videos for the San Ignacio area now (check them out) then next up will be the PV area of Mexico. After that will be Hilo, Hawaii. We try to post a new video every week or so. If you enjoy our informative travel videos, please subscribe.
@@scottsdaletravelchick That's unreal! Subscribed just there! I'm currently in Guatemala and heading through Central America into South America. I'm making vlog style vids also. I'd love if you'd check them out also :)
Hi Jenna, they don’t really have taxis on the island. You have to rent a golf cart. www.viator.com/tours/Ambergris-Caye/Golf-Cart-Rentals/d5072-180178P2?pid=P00152352&uid=U00443667&mcid=58086¤cy=USD
Did you have any issues bringing your drone through the airport? I heard they have some strict rules with drones? Also, I read something about showing the border agent poof that you had $60/person per day in cash? Is that a thing? Anyways, great video! Thanks!
Do people have to spend $75 each time they want to get to the mainland from San Pedro by air? Even local people have to spend a couple of hundred US dollars? it doesn't sound like an easy place to retire or even vacation.
I agree with @mikestzder i was at ambergris cayes ok a long time ago but i left n finished my holiday in st lucia! Ambergris was cold! Windy windy windy! Which made me feel cold all the time and when the sun did come out for five mins (literally) it jys burned ur skin off u cdnt sit in it if u had any sense! I found tge people very short mexican like high pitched unfriendly ppl. The food wasnt great n i just did not like the place or the ppl. The golf carts were all old n the roads so bad ud fly out of the cart. It seemed like a load of dusty raggedy hippy happy go luckiers if u ask me. Wasnt for me at all.
I just returned from Ambergris Caye. I was pretty disappointed. It's nothing like how social media perceives it to be. The awful smell around the island is so offputting (not sure if it's the Sargassum) but it smells like horrible sewer/sulfur. Then the restaurant service is nothing like other places south of the border like Mexico where you are greeted with a smile and the service staff are grateful you are there patronizing their business. Nobody seems to smile much in Belize ( I was in San Ignacio, Caye Caulker, Ambergris Caye). I was staying North of San Pedro and I will say I as a male did not feel safe walking alone as it becomes less populated and not very safe feeling. Lastly, I will say that if one goes to Ambergris Caye they are in for a rude awakening as it is very shantytown-like in many places and not very many white sand beaches. Lots of pollution plastic waste around the island. Sad that the locals don't take pride in their island.
This time of year might be the sargassum coming in- we were recently in Tulum & Cancun area they are having a huge problem with that as well. And yes super stinky especially if it just sits on the beaches. We dedicated a video just recently to that exact issue.
Yeah the place (it's not an island) does smell but at no time did I feel threatened. In fact getting robbed was the last thing on my mind. Not sure what he is talking about unfriendly people, I was in Belize City, Caye Caulker and San Pedro Ave generally everyone was nice and friendly. Their economy depends on tourism
Noisy as hell! Golf carts everywhere. Only one beach on the whole island, and that one is located 45 minutes(with a golf cart) away from down town San Pedro. Not an island you go to if you like to relax on the beach. Because there are no beaches... The whole east coast is covered with sargasso weed.
ambergris is an aweful place, cars and golf carts trying to kill you everywhere. its small dirty and noisy. guys pee in the street and its all just kind of disgusting. when you cross the bridge look left and see one of the worst slums anywhere. if you go north of town, past the bridge, its not so bad but you can get beautiful beaches lots of places.
Great tips! Thank you

We never stayed in Caye Caulker, we really enjoyed ambergris
wow!! 7:10-8:10 shark time!! where did you catch the tour from and what's the name of the tour company that took you snorkelling?

All of Nature Wild and free this is where I long to be,Love that song❤
San Pedro has 16,000 full-time residents.
I am one of them.
Hi Robert.
Thanks for the correction. Sounds more like it.
do you know a good travel agent who does trips to Belize routinely?
Tipped lobster great food
Nice video, did you use a GoPro for underwater footage?
Yes we purchased the GoPro 9 for our footage
Great
How do you get these “taxis”? It seems so expensive to use tourist chauffeurs!

Hi Nora.
Yes they have had a curfew for some time but is, step by step, being relaxed. It was 10pm when we were there.
I was also wondering about the mask situation are they hard core or seem to be relaxing about wearing the mask?
I was also wondering about the mask situation are they hard-core or seem to be relaxing about wearing the mask?
What camera do you use for underwater?
Up above a few comments someone asked and they said they got a Go Pro 9, I believe.
Been there several times. Will return when they lift the vax mandate for restaurants.
Or you can get vaccinated like a normal person instead of being an anti vax MAGA dweeb
I bought land in a community up there call Punta Azul community I bought my land because it was near the new Margaritaville Jimmy Buffett area

Depends on the country but most are relaxing requirements. But, unfortunately, you still need a negative test to come back into the US.
