I agree, but it seems like Boeing is phasing the 747's out in general. I was an FO on our 747-200 (Lufthansa had several) and to me they represent not only a great era but my youth:-))
The last time I went to Paris it was on TWA flight 800 from JFK. A couple days after the same flight exploded over the ocean. My wife was worried we were flying the same exact flight. I reassured her that the odds that the same exact flight would meet the same fate was astronomical. "I'm glad it's the same flight number" I said. Just before boarding, they changed the flight number! Noooo! LOL. The replacement plane was chartered from Air France and was a plain white 747-200. I miss jet engines sounding like that. Great video.
The Boeing 747-200 of Kalitta (N793CK) has a new job :) The Cargo Company (TZS) from Georgia bought the B747 and is currently preparing the old lady for its new life. Great news in my opinion !!
I'm just a girl who LOVES planes, trains and automobiles, but I was awestruck at the sharp angle of ascent in that first take-off on a relatively short length of runway! wowsah . . . I used to lay on my back at YVR and watch the Jumbos come in right after the other, and was still amazed at how close they felt to me on the ground ~ all that immense weight seemingly hanging in space right over me before touching down! I realize I was not monitoring cargo aircraft with their immense payload.
My uncle, used to work as A&P mechanic for Connie "The Bounty Hunter" Kalitta at Willow Run Airport in Ypsilanti, MI years ago. Back before they moved most of the maintenance operations to the closed down Wurtsmith AFB in Oscoda, MI. Many times...I got to explore the 747's, DC-8's and DC-9's they maintained. It was also fun....getting VIP treatment at NHRA Drag Races with Team Kalitta years ago too.....
On its last leg, this plane came through my hometown of Seattle. I didn't know until she was halfway over the pacific flying away from me! God that almost made me cry
Awesome! It's kind of hard to forget the first time we see an airplane like the 747. The first time I saw one was in 1974, in the transit lounge waiting for another flight. This was a ground level room with a large glass wall and when I looked at it's direction, all I could initially see was the underside of the huge 747. My first impression was that its proportions were more like a ship's than an airplane's. I had to come really close to the large glass pane to see the entire 747. What a monster! More than 40 years later, the type still impresses me whenever I see it.
While it is sad to see the old birds grounded, they are giving way to cleaner, greener, quieter and an all round better generation of aircraft. We simply can't afford to keep polluting the planet like we have been. ✌
A fitting tribute to the 747-200 with Kalitta. You have some really nice footage here. I only ever managed to see them once at London Stansted. Well done on showcasing this Boeing classic in your end of era tribute. Enjoyed the sights and sounds.
saddest video I've seen in a while. I love the 742... such a beautiful plane. Hopefully the 747-8i will live up the the legacy created by those behind it. Not going too well so far... hope that it stabilizes and we get the 747 legacy back up and flying. So very sad to see them go.
Back in May 1975 when I was a 21 year old, I flew to England in a 747-200. I bugged the flight attendant (called a stewardess back then) to ask the captain for permission to see the flight deck (called a cockpit back then). She finally asked the captain and he said YES! He got out of his seat, and said "Don't touch anything - have a seat". I sat in the pilot's seat of a fully loaded 747-200 while it was in flight at cruise speed (900km/hour) above the Atlantic Ocean. There was a whole panorama of buttons and switches and meters and knobs and lights at desk level and all above the windshield. I touched nothing. I will be eternally grateful to that pilot for trusting me and letting me have that experience. That fond memory is a constant reminder to me that we now live in a totally different age. One would now be removed or arrested just for making the request, and understandably so, tragically. By the way, the view was AMAZING. We glided above the clouds and I had a 190 degree view.
ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC shots of this Iconic airplane . Thanks for sharing... I think the 747_200s were the basis of the E4B which are more Hardened against EMP than the successors.. They don't have glass cockpits.. I would prefer the dials and gauges anyday ... Newer isn't always better ...
Well.. Korean Air is not operating 747 classics now, but they are still storing 747-200 now in Jungseok Airport which is located in Jeju island, Korea. Its tail number is HL7463(Originally It was HL7410, but it was changed to HL7463 in 1981), and it was the first 747 in Korean Air. Its first flight was in 1973, so it is about 45 years old now. That 747 is not in service now, but I heard that the aircraft (including all four engines) are still able to use. Also cabin and cockpit is well preserved. I hope this will be a useful information for you :)
What is the limiting factor with regards to 747-200 operations? Are there no serviceable engines or is there a lack of some other spare parts? Airframe life? Fuel consumption?
When I worked for IAS at KIAH in 1999, one of our clients was Kalitta Air, but they only used their 727-200's. To my knowledge they never used the 747's to KIAH.
There's Caspian Airlines of Iran ; according to Wikipedia, it has a 747-200F for commercial operations (registered EP-CQA) ; the military 747-100 for Iran air force (also operated by Caspian) is registered EP-CQB
John Spadora Hey... No Wikipedia quotes. The 727 is used in many small airlines in Africa and 3rd world countries for cheap tickets and cheap running costs. Just not known as well.
No. They are highly modified 747-200B airplanes. The 400 has winglets, and neither one of the Air Force Ones have winglets. They went into service a year after the 400 went into service, but it takes years to get an Air Force One ready, and there wouldn't have been time between the 400's first flight and the introduction of the two current Air Force Ones.
Hey! This is late, but Caspian Airlines not only has a 747-200, they also still operate a 747-100! And I posted this comment almost a year after this video was released :D
considering the fact that the b747 was soon gonna be declared as the 2nd biggest passenger aircraft soon because of the Airbus 380 full double-decker jet, ill miss the b747, amazing jet ive been on flying overseas for a year-and-a-half :(
Mr. Bonnie140 the 748 is bigger in terms of length than the a380... and plus what do you know of aircraft? FIVE NIGHTS AT FREDDY'S is your Profile picture.
I love 747 but I'll admit this the only 747 I'm interested in are the 744s with British Airways especially from JFK and the 747-8 freighters and Lufthansa 747-8i
Donkey B Well, the 400's & -8's wouldn't exist if the 100's & 200's hadn't come first. They literally changed the world! And those P&W JT-9D engines were the first commercially successful high-bypass turbofan engines... now they all are high-bypass. I love the newer ones too... but I'd this is where they came from...
Randy She Who knows it may happen. If only the 747-8 had Carbon Fibre composite wings instead of the Advanced Aluminum Alloy wings, composite tail and some other tweaks we may have seen more improvements by at least 6%. But oh well I believe it just can't be economical enough
Dana Danarosana Very true. I've never been in a 747-100 but have been on a 747-200 retired Air France cockpit. Old analogue steam cockpit pilots would say but I learned how the original jumbo jet was created and how that lead to the 747 - 400 and 747-8, s huge step up from an old model to the new more modern one. Watching 747s never gets old
RACEBEAST 1999 Queen of the skies should never die!

The JT9D engines on this aircraft are amazing sounding!
Aaron Hilsz-Lothian Ah I'm going to miss that... I think we all will haha
Tehzerr sorry about the confusion, "Just Planes" makes aviation DVD's.
Sam Haddad yeah... I realized it after I sent the comment.
We will miss you Classic 747!
The Boeing 747-200 of Kalitta (N793CK) has a new job :) The Cargo Company (TZS) from Georgia bought the B747 and is currently preparing the old lady for its new life. Great news in my opinion !!
Cargospotter yeah and come often to the O’hare airport...
Like watching the old DC-3's. the Boeing 747 is just a pleasure to watch as it takes off and lands. No other aircraft quite look as graceful.
I'm just a girl who LOVES planes, trains and automobiles, but I was awestruck at the sharp angle of ascent in that first take-off on a relatively short length of runway! wowsah . . . warmlandlass1 that's so cool, YVR is so close to where my best friends live

She's a beautiful lady gracing the skies.
I love 747 Classics, amazing sound! Great video mate! Thumbs up!
That specific plane (N794CK) is just over 30 years old. Just amazing. And it's only in storage, not even scraped.
And keep it that way
Awesome! It's kind of hard to forget the first time we see an airplane like the 747. The first time I saw one was in 1974, in the transit lounge waiting for another flight. corisco tupi It sure was a pioneer of that era.
A beautiful iconic aircraft that will never be equalled. Long live the 747! 747-9 Intercontinental!
While it is sad to see the old birds grounded, they are giving way to cleaner, greener, quieter and an all round better generation of aircraft. We simply can't afford to keep polluting the planet like we have been. ✌
Just awesome man. Thanks so much for making this tribute.
A fitting tribute to the 747-200 with Kalitta. You have some really nice footage here. I only ever managed to see them once at London Stansted. Well done on showcasing this Boeing classic in your end of era tribute. Enjoyed the sights and sounds.
Awesome vid! The 200 series were and still are my favorite in the 747 lineage.
I'm near oscota and it's awesome to go there and see all the classics
A phenomenal aeroplane that served us well for decades.
saddest video I've seen in a while.
I love the 742... such a beautiful plane. Hopefully the 747-8i will live up the the legacy created by those behind it.
Not going too well so far... hope that it stabilizes and we get the 747 legacy back up and flying. So very sad to see them go.
What a beauty, the 200s will be missed!
A 742 (4L-GEN) just recently took to the skies again!
I filmed this Kalitta landing at Hong Kong recently in slow motion
Great shots of a legend! Rolls-Royce still operates a 747-200 as a testbed for the Trent 1000 engine at the Tucson, Arizona airport (KTUS).
PittsSZ you couldn't have said it better... there's only one word that describes this magnificent aircraft, legend
Thanks for the effort on all your videos

Awesome video , I love classic airliners like the 747-200 .
I work for UPS and we get this plane during our peak season (Thanksgiving-Xmas) so ive worked on this plane at least a dozen times - Matt
Sad to see this wonderful aircraft go, bye bye 747-200, you will be missed
ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC shots of this Iconic airplane . Thanks for sharing... I think the 747_200s were the basis of the E4B which are more Hardened against EMP than the successors.. They don't have glass cockpits.. I would prefer the dials and gauges anyday ... Newer isn't always better ...
Such a joy.
A sad ending. and very nice to see you captured them very well Thanks
Bye Bye 747-200! you were a big iconic giant!
Wish we had planes as rad and loud as these guys, someone conduct the 797 project and make a new classic
gone but will always be in our hearts and thoughts now and forever
Good bye, 747-200😭
Worked in 747-200 s owned by PIA . Loved them and miss them, but hey nothing is forever.
I flew in a 742 back in the day (LHR-ORD) and it was he best.. rest in plane heaven.
Great video as always! sad indeed that another classic aircraft has had its last flight.
Some very good footage there; excellent quality too! Well done. I enjoyed watching this :)

WOW! Saw one parked at Miami Airport last month.
What a beautiful bird
gorgeous!
Very nice video, excepting some of the wind sounds disturbances:-) Thanks for sharing!
Nice camera work. Thanks for posting.
Majestic!
lovely! grazie a te, Cargospotter. :)
yes the last of an era, although the 747-8 is continuing the tradition, which is now 50 years old
R.I.P Boeing 747-200
What is the limiting factor with regards to 747-200 operations? Are there no serviceable engines or is there a lack of some other spare parts? Airframe life? Fuel consumption?
All of the above
Ohhhhhhhhhh so sad seing an aircraft retire
Goodbye you beautiful 747s!
What a sad momment 😭and liked
When I worked for IAS at KIAH in 1999, one of our clients was Kalitta Air, but they only used their 727-200's. To my knowledge they never used the 747's to KIAH.
Tolle Aufnahmen von Dir!Daumen hoch!Gruss inselvideo!
I love how you can see wingtip vortices from the left side of the horizontal stabilizer at 1:25
Nope
Iran Air got 2 747-200‘s still in service. One for cargo and one for passenger flights. (I saw the description)
superb footage. engine 4 belching out fumes like theres no tomorrow on takeoff.
Nice Video
nice landing!
Very happy to see you caught it!! I wasn't able to come to AMS unfortunately :/ Well done mate!
There's Caspian Airlines of Iran ; according to Wikipedia, it has a 747-200F for commercial operations (registered EP-CQA) ; the military 747-100 for Iran air force (also operated by Caspian) is registered EP-CQB
747 200 😍😍😍👌
One used to operate every Sunday from CNX, but ceased a few years ago. Now I never hear that sound at 10am any more 😯
dav snow R.I.P
I know how you feel
it's like that with me and a340s.
dav snow its really sad now that you don’t have the 747 to help you wake up... I know you’re in pain 🙃
An Iranian Cargo airline "Fars Air Qeshm" is still operating a 747-200 for commercial cargo flights, registered as EP-FAA.
Btw Qeshm Fars air is a new 747-200F operator! :D They fly with EP-FAA.
The last classic piece of Joe Sutter's legacy...so long B742, she was the workhorse that never quit :'(
If I'm not mistaken, Kalitta Air also has a couple 727s, right?
John Spadora Hey... No Wikipedia quotes. The 727 is used in many small airlines in Africa and 3rd world countries for cheap tickets and cheap running costs. Just not known as well.
John Spadora
The 727 is a true classic.
Kalitta Air does the Tex Sutton race horse charters with a 727.
So sad we love 747x
Those classic engines though!
I think the two Air Force One airplanes flying now are 747-200s as well, so there are at least two still flying.
even the Air Force One 747 are on borrowed time they are supposed to be replaced by the 747-8i in the by 2025 i believe.
Shahrdad the two air force ones planes are 400 series. They will be replaced by the -8i in 2021
Any chance any of these will be preserved, or exhibited somewhere? It would be a real shame if they all just get scrapped.
😞i can't believe it. Well atleast if they will all be gone no aircraft will be the new queen of the skies. only the 747s
JT9D.. Smoke and loud. The end of an era.
rainha dos céus.
Where did the HF antennae go on 793 and 794CK?
That is sad to see the 747-200 go. :,(
Hey! This is late, but Caspian Airlines not only has a 747-200, they also still operate a 747-100! And I posted this comment almost a year after this video was released :D
is that the last 747-200 flight ever, or just with Kalitta?
Read description please.
And? Still not very clear. Why not just answer the question.
Nice!!! Wich cuting Programm do you use
I think NASA is operating two Boeing 747-200 to transport the space shuttle from Edwards AFB to Cape Canaveral
Viggo Edbom Those aren't 200's, those are 747 SCA's
Yeh, I looked in my Flight Book and it was two Boeing 747-100 SCA that they've converted
What Space shuttle, I thought the whole program was scrapped!
and then there's always Air Force One...even though they'll be replacing it with a 747-8I by 2023
Alon Alkalai Your comment doesn't make sense for some reason.
Way better than the A380
Also, is there any Boeing that have auto trim? I do not know that is why i ask?
Well, I never got to see her fly, but at least I got to see her :(
considering the fact that the b747 was soon gonna be declared as the 2nd biggest passenger aircraft soon because of the Airbus 380 full double-decker jet, ill miss the b747, amazing jet ive been on flying overseas for a year-and-a-half :(
Mr. Bonnie140 the 748 is bigger in terms of length than the a380... and plus what do you know of aircraft? FIVE NIGHTS AT FREDDY'S is your Profile picture.
Sad :( I was maintaining 742 (RB211-524) in 2005-6
i thought airforce 1 was a 747-200?
Good Bye , old lady xxx
I love 747 but I'll admit this the only 747 I'm interested in are the 744s with British Airways especially from JFK and the 747-8 freighters and Lufthansa 747-8i

I say I only bother with the 747-8 and 747-400 because there the only models I see often and having to chase for a classic doesn't make much sense for me. The 747 models look identical but just longer hump and new wings and engines but the fuselage scheme remains identical.
Sounds like you know a lot about the 747. Back in the mid 90's I flew on some United 747 SP ( Special Performance ) on the MIA-GIG route, I believe they were ex Pan Am frames, do you know if any SP is still flying anywhere today?

Bye bye 747-200 welcome 747-8i
Yeeeeesss!
CAL no longer operates the 742, but the 744, for few years now...
did you also filmed the British Airways 767 takingoff about 15 minutes earlier ? i was inside :D
I just adjusted the door yesterday. Rolls Royce using it to test their new engine.
I'm pretty sure KLM, British Airways, and Emirates SkyCargo still operate the 747-200...
A 742 JUST LANDED AT MY HOME AIRPORT! I've got a screenie it doesnt seem to have an airline
Gosh those PW engines sure are loud
Air force one is 747-200B and its still in use
