Thanks so much was having an antifreeze leak and added more and was making sure it didn’t overheat again 🙏 gonna have to try this today when we fix it 🎉
That’s for posting this up. Just had a overheat incident on my E60. Got the fan replaced. I’m curious what would be the max temp to trigger the overtemp warning/fault? I’m paranoid now so I will be driving with this coolant temp up. Thanks again from the Bay Area CA🤙🏽
I have a S85 and I’m pretty sure the thermostat needs to be done. I tried your secret menu trick to monitor the temp while I was driving and it was going from 71c up to 79c. I also have a check engine light that keeps coming on saying increased emissions but when I scan it the code says P0128 Coolant thermostat (coolant temp below thermostat regulating temperature) I was thinking to replace the sensor first cause that’s super easy to get at and then if it persists do the thermostat as well. Thank you for the video it was very easy and informative.
Thanks for confirming my suspicions. I’m change out the thermostat then. I just hate pulling the plenums especially since I just had it apart for the idler actuators and throttle body’s. Round two lol
I have a 2011 X3/F25 30d with the 5.7" TFT display in the instrument panel. This car has six digits at the end of the VIN code. Do I have to make a sum of these six digits in this case? Unfortunately I couldn't find any video with this 5.7" TFT display built in the instrument panel. I learned yesterday that there is such a display partly "behind" the "analog" rev gauge. I have had the car for more than eight months... Maybe it's time to learn the most(?!) essential things about the car... In this menu you can also read the fault codes! I have to look at this "a little bit closer" in the next future.
Hello George, thanks for the upload. However, can you tell me what is the operating temp on your bmw, mines going to 97 and than the fan engages and it goes down to 95 and this is going in circle again. Do you think its normal for this n47 engine? Regards
Nice one George but also you can get carly software and dangle and you will have hassle free readings from every corner of ur car. Cheers for your effort 👍🏻😎🤪
To be honest I’m using Carly for 5 years if not longer and never had a single problem. But that wasn’t my point. What I meant rather go trough this stupid procedure you can get any dangle from eBay and free software for ur mobile to check basic parameters like temp etc
Mine shows +16.5°c but that can't be correct as the engine feels very hot on touch. Is that the outside temperature it shows me or the coolant temperature??
Hey George , 1 question , my hidden menu when engine fully warmed up shows 54-56 degrees and stays that way regardless if i use heating in cab or not. Now my question is does that hidden menu display coolant radiator OUTLET temp or does it show actual coolant temp because usually OBD reader shows two temperatures , if outlet is 56 degrees then coolant would be around 93 degrees , im confused ,just want to know if my thermostat is stuck open or its fine .if that hidden menu shows radiator OUTLET temp then my coolant temp should be around 93 C ????? I also have 520d e60 just want to compare it to your reading on hidden menu when engine fully warmed . Thanks
I tried to check mine just to see how fast it warms up or if it I should expect it to put out heat. Strange it doesn't have the option on the left stalk but guess it doesn't need one.
@@bryanlima3639 250 f and go all way to 350 if going fast but 350 could put it into limp mode 121 c to 176 c , the idle temperture should be between 230f 250 f 110 c to 121c
I’ve been looking for a way to unlock this feature but thanks to you this video helped me out

Probably comes on a couple degrees over fan switching on temp
I was one day testing an uphill full stress the engine and never gone more than 98C. Vent working of course. 320D m47
Great tip, just used this after replacing my coolant to ensure all was ok.
Thanks again George
Great stuff!
Very helpful video.
Just quick question on what temperature it's running 40d ? Thanks
I have a 2011 X3/F25 30d and Bimmerlink shows 91°C (at least) for coolant. I'm not sure if that is the highest value it can reach.
any idea on how to show the temps in metric, trying to change it from C to F in my car.
Thanks!,having an e70 with n63 has been a terrible nightmare without having a temp gauge

How BMW do that checking of the coolant temperature is really bullshit 🙄 instead of display all the time on the screen!
Agreed.. they should have left that in instead of the MPG meter
Well BMW are lease cars.... they want to overheat so you BMW lovers can get rid of that car and get a new BMW
For real
Thats is the dumbest bs ever, all that to see if your car’s overheating smh

normal operating temperature!
Normal temperature for bmw 528i e60 2010 90-110 or to hi ?
Very cool! Who would have guessed. Any other secrets? Thank You!
Lots of other secrets my friend!

I would rather use BMW software than Carly etc as they can fry your modules

520D thermomstat opens at 87 degrees and mine shows 87-90
@@GeorgeAusters my one never reaches more than 56 C so i guess its stuck on open as my heating in cab isnt too great . Cherrs for reply 👍👊
That’s it mate
At the end , what made you go to number 7? Unclear what you did.
I do like in video but dosent show temperature why? Bmw e87
I got to much head when the engine is on.
What’s the problem?
Thanks
how much the normal engine temperature for a BMW engine?
For this one here it’s 95 to 97
Cool indeed
Why ?? Could be so much easier lol
Sweet and shory I love it 💜 good 👍🏼 video
#bringthatlovenotthathurt
Only BMW would make it complicated, why??? Thanks much needed
Thanks mate
What do you do for a 2018 x3 30i?
I’m going to just try the steps and comment back
Are you telling me there is no temperature gauge on this bmw? What a RIP off!
I know right I own 1 and never checked it 😂
I tried to check mine just to see how fast it warms up or if it I should expect it to put out heat. Strange it doesn't have the option on the left stalk but guess it doesn't need one.
It does have it, just most people dont know about it,
Its placed on the right side of the rpm cluster
Obviously that last comment was trolling
Don’t need it, the cars reliable
Hey mate what is your normal running temperature
N47 is 87-92
What is a good coolant temp ?
same i need help wit that idk what’s normal coolant temperature for. 2007 335i

What is the normal temperature for x5 2008 3.0d ?
Around 100

What temperature should it stay at?
95 to 97
Thanks❤
Didn’t work for my 2009 x5 e70
Ohhh I forgot about the secret menu haven’t tried this yet
Wow so easy!!!
Easy ? BMW should be ashamed of themselves by putting the useless instant MPG instead of a more important temp gauge on dash.
Nice indeed ! Butt i got an obd 2 reader from ali express for 5 euros and also does the trick ;)
Nice idea!
I would never plug a 5 euro code reader into a bmw..
Doesn’t work for me, 2011 325d N57.
Same 06 bmw 330i m sport
What if you can’t get to the number that ads up to?
What’s your number then?
Just saying....mine ads up to 27....and the menu doesn’t get there?
@@GeorgeAusters LZ16839
You're not trying to get to menu 27... 27 is your unlock code on menu 19
@@GeorgeAusters thanks....I’ll try again in the morning (late here in Oz). I was sure I did exactly as you described.
Mine only went to 9 but added up to 22 ..why ?
Seems crazy...😂
The code is the last 5 digits added up.. which is actually your VIN......
Thanks, I've been adding them all up and scratching my head 😂
Many thanks.....
Instant mpg what a waste of space!! 🤦♂️
Damn thats so extra
What is the normal working temp ?for mine most of the time 99 c
Depends on the engine
55°c after 20 min drive... I think I need some Thermostats
Nah, thanks.
I’d go with coolant temp instead of instant gas.
doesn’t work for my 2011 328i
Try again
@@GeorgeAusters i tried it 5 times and everything works besides when i get to the 7 and it doesn’t show anything

I cannot be bothered lmao
what a reficulasly stupid setup !!
eh george that wasnt personal to you of coarse !!
All good Brian!
useful but absolute garbage that this is so ridiculously complex thanks to BMW
Lol dont waste your time doing this Konami cheat code to see temp gauge and just get a civic. Your future self will thank you
Doesn’t work on a 2012 X5 e70 40d
It should do
Well cuz this guy isn't explaining it correctly or clearly. It's simply the last 5 numbers on your VIN. Add it up
