OMG, I was in high school and studying for my midterms when this originally aired. My cool Dad said, “Take a little break and watch this with me.” He made me a cup of hot chocolate with marshmallows and we laughed our asses off! I have never seen my father laugh so hard in my entire life. Ah, the good old days, I miss you Dad.

Bob Mackie is an absolute genius when it comes to costumes. Harvey's fairygodmother,Tim's Elfin John not to mention Carol's outfit which channels Cher . The outfits that come out of his imagination are fabulous.
My best friend and I saw the Pointer sisters at the Barn in Lucerne in St.Louis.MO.It was GREAT to see them in person. We had a Fantastic time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Let's take a moment and remember that this cast through this together inside of a week. So much talent on one stage. It's 2023 and I am still watching Carol Burnett. There's nothing on these days that even interests me. 😍👏👏👏👏⭐⭐⭐🕺
I'm 13 and I'm so glad my parents introduced me to older shows like this. It's clean, it's witty, and It's completely hilarious! and I just adore Tim Conway's acting!
Good for you. My adoptive mother who raised me was 45 years old when I was born. Consequently, I was exposed to a multi-generational gamut of talent from the early 1900s basically and on through the rest of the century. My absolutely favorite decades for literature, music, TV and film are the 60s, 70s, and some of the 80s. Most of the stuff made since the turn of the recent century leaves me cold, although there are rare exceptions. I just don't like the gratuitous profanity and overall video game CGI. I see a decline of the imagination and originality that concerns me for the future of our culture, not to mention a loss of entertainment.
I loved the whole thing with Harvey in that blue frock, but the Pointer Sisters, I was flabbergasted, and they sang so smoothly, OMG, so slim and tall! Suddenly, I remembered we used to say : “Give me 5, on the Black hand side!” ( I know, I know, but it was cool then) But can you dig it? I knew you could!
Used to be one of my favorite shows in the 70's. Have you watched "I love Lucy'? That's another hilarious "oldie" (a lot older than these shows but really good).
Hahah I did TTOOOOOOOOOO i was thinking hey EJ was never on Carol,, then Tim did his noted "schoolboy stare" and I knew right away it was Tim Conway,, lol hagd
From the look on Carol's face, I am not sure if she knew what Harvey was going to look like. This skit brought out the talents of all of the cast. And those behind the scenes.
Amazing how comfortable everyone seems to be walkin' around on VERY high heeled platforms! Even Tim Conway -- no hint of wobbly ankles or instability! At the time this hit the airwaves, Elton John was fresh from his Pinball Wizard role in the movie "Tommy" and was the hottrst guy alive. The colors and fashions shown here were right on the money. I remember it all ... becsuse my family and I went to the taping of this show. I was 13.
Mother Marcus always had me rolling on the floor! The Pointer Sisters were a special treat here too! And all that dancing and singing and Viki's role was hilarious!!!
Absolutely Broadway-quality, Bob Mackie´s costume designs, the choreography, the adaptation, the acting and singing, everything on point, with class and charm.
LoL! The first line that made me laugh was "three funky daughters by her first stud". I'm cracking up!!! this whole skit was groovy man! I'm a 70s baby living in an 80s body
This is what kept us home on Saturday nights. Then we looked forward to Monday so we could recall the fun in school. Carol Burnett has stated that these performances wouldn't be done today because it would be too expensive. Imagine just the costumes, wigs, shoes for the entire cast. The feather boas and trimmings. They all needed salaries including the the staff of designer and the seamsters. This they did each week for each TV season. Wow.
Troy C. Jones 81 I thought you were going to say this couldn't be done today because it's borderline offensive, politically incorrect, the PC police would show and not be somewhat wrong.
The greatest part of this show was when they couldn't get through their lines without laughing... Tim Conway and Harvey Korman were notorious for this😂
There’s another, earlier skit on RUclips that had Harvey in drag for a talent show type thing within the skit, and both Carol and Vicki have FULL PERMISSION, within the confines of the skit, to just die at his entrance. Their authentic laughter is everythinggggggggg
It is amazing how much talent went into that skit. From all of the talent behind the scenes to all of the talent on stage. It is just amazing for one skit.
It wasn't a broadway revival, they were in a touring production that never reached Broadway. It's essentially a jukebox musical, doesn't require much in the way of acting.
So cool to see this. Those Bob Mackie costumes are amazing...and, coincidentally, I believe Mackie also did costumes for Cher and Tina Turner at this time.
Funny you mention that ... I was thinking it but then again I came here from that old reality show Project Runway (I'm in season 2). I'd never watched it before but now I am addicted to "fashion" watching LOL.
I looked and looked and finally figured it out,, as I thought it WAS Elton at first,, then the campy,, look up like a child stare, and I knew it was Tim llol
I am so glad there is video proof of how awesome things used too be lol. I have been binge watching old TV shows from the 70's and 80's all day. There used to be a reason to own a TV. Not so much any more.
I watched this clip again today (03-30-20) and once again it made me laugh, even though at this time we are all going through an extremely scary period in history. Bless you Carol and Vicki. RIP Harvey, Tim, Lyle and June (Pointer). The seventies now seem like a relatively innocent decade.
Their show was theater-quality every week. Great casting, writing, lots of money to do it right. Thank goodness for networks like MeTV, youtube and other classic TV networks who have introduced new generations of people to what we loved when we were growing up. I didn't fully appreciate just how satirical Green Acres was until I got older.
The 70s had Nixon, Pol Pot, Idi Amin, oil shortages, oil shortages, inflation, recession, stagflation, the Iranian Hostage crisis (as well as MANY other high profile acts of terrorism, over 100 plane hijackings in that decade), MUCH higher levels of crime & violence, major air pollution, a truly mind boggling number of serial killers, the Cold War & living under the threat of nuclear annihilation, and shocking levels of child abuse (and molestion), domestic violence, and rape…you may wanna reassess that “truly innocent” comment.
Now that is what I call ENTERTAINMENT! This is the first time I've seen this skit. It rocked the house out! I love Carol Burnett but now I have even more love for her and her show after seeing this eye-popping performance. All the characters were played to overdone PERFECTION. I loved Vicki Lawrence's high pitched note, the women of color stole the show and the half dressed male dancer looked like he would one day join a group that would be called The Village People!...Rock Out With Your Songs Out Carol Burnett!
She should have been a hundred times more famous and she was. Vicki Lawrence s could sing . beautiful voices notes are amazing that she just did in this skit.
I remember staying up late as a little girl to watch The Carol Burnett Show. Wow what a cast full of true talent! Never gets old, so glad to find it on here!!
ELI NEFF He's going to be reprising his role of Edna Turnblad. Also in the cast are Jennifer Hudson as Maybelle, Martin Short as Wilbur, Derek Hough as Corny Collins, Ariana Grande as Penny, Kristin Chenoweth as Velma, her Descendants co-star Dove Cameron as Amber, Garret Clayton as Link, Sean Hayes as Mr. Pinky, Andrea Martin as Prudy, Rosie O Donnel as the Gym Teacher, special appearances by former Tracys Ricki Lake & Marissa Jaret Winokur and introducing Maddie Ballio as Tracy. Hairspray LIVE will air December 7th
It's called "Talent"...it transcends time. I remember actually watching this when it first aired; the only thing that comes close and is relatively recent is the Tracy Ullman Show, but Carol was first, and I think, best. If you want to see more actual sketch comedy, try "Went With The Wind", with the infamous curtain rod dress...
@@johnwclick I also would watch that show every week and my favorite was always the gone with the wind spoof, to this day whenever I see her walking down the stairs with that curtain rod I lose it! Another skit for the younger generation to check out is when she plays Queen Elizabeth with Harvey Korman as Prince Phillips and a young Maggie Smith as Tim Conway's "girlfriend"
Forget the high notes... Carol B’s low notes are amazing!! Wow. This was a great sketch. Lmao the fairy g-dmother 😂 🤣. The Pointer Sisters were awesome.
Wow! Vicki Lawrence had a killer figure. Loved the outfits, & the singing! Great cast & writers on this show. And, no one screaming "cultural appropriation" back then, or getting offended. Loved the 70's! Send me back, Fairy Godmother!
@Bob Anderson, back when it was safe to walk and bicycle everywhere. I bought a red backpack at The Bay especially to wear when bicycling around P.A. and out to Little Red River Park.

When I say there's NEVER been another cast of actors that could ever have the chemistry that this cast had.
Well, maybe Clue the movie...
Pointer Sisters and Vicki Lawrence KILLED THIS!!!!! This piece won an Emmy, and rightfully so. #TALENT

I loved Vicki's song at the end.

Bob Mackie is an absolute genius when it comes to costumes. Harvey's fairygodmother,Tim's Elfin John not to mention Carol's outfit which channels Cher . The outfits that come out of his imagination are fabulous.
Those ain't cheap either! Top quality supplies and detailed HAND work!
Love Mackie!!!
I love it!
I love it when anyone calls attention to the costume designer. What a genius!
He also designed Cher's outfits on Sonny and Cher show
Mackie must work with a team. One man could do all of it.
The Pointer Sisters are great. They should have been given their own variety show.

Wow! Vicki Lawrence had a killer figure. Loved the outfits, & the singing! Great cast & writers on this show. And, no one screaming "cultural appropriation" back then, or getting offended. Loved the 70's! Send me back, Fairy Godmother!
Vicki and the Pointer Sisters dancing in those shoes was the most incredible thing about this whole incredible production.
The Ernie Flatt Dancers added so much to this show! They were always over-the-top excellent!
Bravo! Bravo! A thousand rounds of applause! That was fabulous! 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Anyone else watching this in 2020 while stuck at home during the Covid-19 Epidemic?

Ain't it the truth lol.
@Bob Anderson, back when it was safe to walk and bicycle everywhere. I bought a red backpack at The Bay especially to wear when bicycling around P.A. and out to Little Red River Park.
Its chemicals in our food and water. Bc when I go to Sicily I loose weight fast. And 4 months back into the US I'm big again. Trust me , its the food.
Sure you ain’t also suffering from ‘they only hired skinny people’ bias? Not like fat people didn’t exist until the 21 century.
Carol Burnett was thin, She is one person.
This is one of my favorite mini musical skits! I know all the dialogue and songs!💜😁👍
I'm almost totally off book for the whole thing 😆
I think we just found the inspiration for Shrek's fairy godmother.
You mean Evil Fairy Godmother
+Manuel Orozco ur cute.
Lol if you watch the show AbFab (absolutely fabulous) you’ll see where they got the character from. Edina Monsoon :)
