I can't help but feel as it the NYMBISM is responsible for a lot of this.
We're not ALL meant to live the same mind numbingly dull life that is American suburbia and yet we're all trying to be forced into this one dimensional box (and made to feel guilty, alien, stupid, immoral if we want something else). You see it as early as kindergarten for the kids. If a child isn't capable of sitting silently for 7 hours straight they are immediately diagnosed with a fake disorder (ADHD, Autism, you name it) and put on drugs (speed).
The drugs start in elementary school. The speed, the anti depressants, all these weird cognitive drugs. Then we wonder why they start injecting needles into their arms and popping pills on the side of the road when they grow up. They were already addicts before, the prescription meds were their gateway drugs.
My brother was a heroin addict (now recovering). His drug addiction started at the age of 9 when teachers forced him on Ritalin. Teachers couldn't deal with him because he couldn't sit still. He was just a different kid and not meant to be stuck at a desk all day. He was clever, loved to explore, and take things apart. But our society believes he should sit at an office desk all day and become a mindless robot.
Watching our society destroy perfectly capable, creative, and intelligent human beings is soul crushing.
These people who created these dwellings have an enormous amount of resourcefulness and creativity that is going completely ignored by this stupid community. They painted art on the walls for Christ's sake....
Listening to them babble on about how we need to "invest in homelessness" whatever the F that means (what an empty, hollow statement).
Some of these people will try to say that we need to invest in mental health and yet no one knows where the "mental health problems' are coming from. It's like they think the mental health issue just spontaneously came out of thin air or they were just "born that way."
No one in the US ever asks "why" and because we don't, we never solve problems. We just want to hide away in our giant isolated castles and pretend like we don't see pain or suffering. We plug our ears as we drive through our mechanical strip mall society and pretend we don't hear the anguish of others.
We exist, but no one really lives.

Look up what happened in New Orleans when the levee broke since you don’t remember. Levees are for when the water is high and uncontrollable… when the water goes in that it going to break and people will die. But I guess you don’t care about regular people who work and pay bills so their kids can go to school. Those regulars are horrible people for trying to live productive life huh? Such horrible people aren’t they, trying to put their kids through school.

Imagine having little as is-no shelter, no respect or dignity from society, no secure food-and you make yourself something out of nothing. You make what is clearly a home. And you come back one day to see it all “cleaned up” by “concerned volunteers” who have no intention of returning what few belongings you have, no intention of feeding or clothing or sheltering you. You found yourself in an unclimbable hole, made it livable, and they take even that from you. Curse those who see housing, food, and water as privileges instead of human rights.

Slides up around the belly, face down on the mattress

And you hold me, and we are broken
Still it's all that I wanna do, just a little now
Feel myself, heading off the ground
I'm scared, I'm not coming down
      No, no
And I won't run for my life
She's got her jaws now locked down in a smile
      But nothing is alright, alright

A levee is designed to hold back flood water. When it floods you think the safety wall is going to work with a big ass hole in it? The city should let them ba I in and charge them rent even if it's $5 a month just saying. Did you know that if you own land and it's burned down due to natural or unnatural causes, the gov won't let you put up a tent and live on the land you own!!! I wonder how many were home owners lost to fires n such. California has had a tough few years with natural disasters. Where the disaster money go?
