In California, some people wanted to help by building tiny homes ($1200 each) so homeless could get in out of the weather.
The government, who were doing very little to help, said you can't do that, collected up the tiny homes and destroyed them, leaving the people out in the weather again.
Government officials care only for their own "version of the truth" and have no respect for the property of the people.

It happened to my dad... he worked his entire life as a laborer as well as a painter. He got injured and lost his means to work and his apartment... he slept at the LA rescue mission for almost over a year while waiting for his disability income to come thru. He said it was ROUGH.. Some people are already one last charge to a maxed out credit card from homelessness but will not admit it. Looking wealthy is a huge problem for many people in the USA. You see it on a daily basis from fancy cars, designer clothes with the a big logo, golden teeth, big chains and sending little Susie to a private school. Most wealthy people are quiet and do not draw attention to themselves because they don’t want family or friends asking for money… 😂

I stay in one of these currently in Cali and it definitely gives you privacy unlike the usual shelter. I also stay at a low barrier shelter and so I don't have curfews and no phone rules either. The downside is pallets have no plugs/outlets, bathroom, ventilation(so the walls get wet and your blakets and stuff will grow toxic black mold), heat or air.
It's basically like being in a tent made of metal. Some ppl here still get their pallets robbed. I would say a pallet is good if you don't currently have a tent or for when your tent floods or you can't find a good spot. It does protect you from rain but there are many openings in the walls due to how They're made, so some ppl's pallets leak and bugs can get in.

When you've been living on the street for a while, getting back into a home -- while a good thing -- can be a jarring experience, and it takes adjusting. Small steps to reacclimate/reenter the world, then you move on into something bigger...

In December 2013, a tiny home development called Quixote Village was completed in Olympia, WA. It has 30 tiny cottages, with their own 1/2 bath, for homeless adults. The 2-acre development also has a large common area with a kitchen, bath/shower rooms, and 2 multi-purpose rooms. This is believed to be the first publically-subsidized community of its kind in the country. Yay for the Evergreen State. There are many other such developments in our state now.

I think this is fantastic! I hope when these mini communities are built they always include a common kitchen and laundry facility as well as a full bathroom. These would be places for those that can help, to deliver blankets, warm clothing, pillows, toiletries, food, laundry supplies, offer hair cuts etc as well as a centre for them to gather, play board games, watch tv or a movie, and to receive info on available community services and potential jobs etc. A telephone that can be used by all when going on job interviews for potential employers to reach them, or to leave a message for the particular candidate. This is a "hand up" rather than a "hand out". This goes a long way in not only providing warmth, but a sense of still feeling human and cared about no matter what situation has brought them to this point. Build them in every city in the amounts that reflect the numbers of those in need, but perhaps make several smaller communities, rather than huge ones, in each city. This is truly awesome!!!! Thanks to those that provide this very much needed service...EVERYWHERE! ❤❤❤ GOD BLESS

Yet everywhere we look we can find abandoned houses, strip malls, and other buildings that would be FAR more environmentally-conscious to make available for the unhoused. Greensboro tax payers really need to consider the impact of what they're funding here.

This doesn't include the cost of utilities or the cost to the city of taking them down in March, storing them, and putting them back up in the fall. They're cheaply built and will look like crap in a couple of years. The only "society" being helped here is some contractor buddy of one of the Greensboro politicians, because this is NOT helping the homeless. It IS helping the tax paying citizens to go broke and join the ranks of the homeless, though.

I moved to a colder climate in my early 20's, coming from a situation where I had been homeless for 2 months before I was given an opportunity to straighten my life up. I lived in San Diego, where it is comfortable enough to sleep outside, even on a really cold night. Just have to protect your feet, first and foremost. They get cold easily even with a light breeze at night.
I can't imagine how much scarier it would be to have to deal with subzero temps. People steal propane to try to stay warm at night in a tent, which is incredibly dangerous. Be grateful for whatever opportunity you get, and remember there is probably someone out there worse off than you are.

We had a make shift shelter set up, the great people living around it started complaining. The city threw them off the privately own property saying it wasn't safe for them to stay in their own tents. The owner was fine with the situation. City cleared them out, so the homeless moved into an abandon nursing home, it caught fire and 20 people died. The only homeless shelter we have now is for females only and most of them are transitioning out of prison. Otherwise, the city turns it's head and act like they don't exist.

You should help jump start it or advocate for it to be done, help in some kinda way instead of waiting to see it be done by someone else. If we all did this instead of just wanting and hoping to see it get done, it can actually get done and faster 🙂

I have seen that also. I think it could be done in every large city. There are always so many deserted bldgs. I like the sleeping pods they have in Japan also. A long corridor of pods. Bathrooms at end of hall. Kitchen and meetings downstairs.@@AtlChica883

I would imagine these domiciles do a lot better job discouraging them from grouping up and using drugs together.
Buildings are a lot harder to keep clean and they don't do as good of a job discouraging bad behavior.
Many of these people are drug addicts and mentally ill.

    • @cosmicabyss7358
      @cosmicabyss7358 3 месяца назад +13

@@AtlChica883The hotels would just become disgusting dirty drug dens.
These units you could literally pressure wash inside and out with a hose and clean it up for the next tenant.
There's no carpet to get disgusting and lose needles in.
No walls to destroy the drywall.
There's so many reasons this is better than turning an old hotel into a dirty drug den.

Only in the USA do you allow people to lose everything bc of illness. You should be ashamed. You're country is so hateful to each other you'd rather pay an insurance company $500 a month for Heath insurance than $100 a month for your Medicare system for all. Your politicians have made you believe that universal health care is bad. It isn't. Your Medicare system is awesome. Why not let everyone enjoy it? Bc if sheer utter selfish ambition and greed. You hate each other. You're the only advanced country that refuses to care for it's in people and you wonder why youre in debt to China? Bc you won't pay to keep your own people healthy, you won't pay to educate your own people, and now you're #36 in the world in education. You don't invest in your in people, your country will fail. This is wonderful. So many of these people are at no true fault for living on the streets. Resources like this help them survive and maintain a sense of dignity. My folks are involved in a similar program in Toledo, OH. Not as many units but they are a little bigger and meant for small families, usually a mother and child from what I understand. My mom is an avid quilter, so she makes quilts that go to these places to help make it feel a little more inviting. Plus, my stepdad and a bunch of other guys from our church volunteered their time to help build them in the first place.
It always does my heart good to see people acting on their more charitable impulses.

To a certain extent, failure to plan is planing to fail.
Yes, things happen that are out of our control, but if we plan ahead for them then we can survive them. Health problems are inevitable for all of us, but not all of us used our money wisely by saving or paying off a home while we could work.
But not everyone thinks like that. And less and less people think like that every day. They just see an unavoidable event and say "nothing I could do, not my fault", but they had the latest iPhone when things were going well.
