As a Seahawks fan, this game was the real Superbowl that year. These were the two best teams in the NFL that year.

Lions vs Packers was the complete opposite of this game, defenders got penalized for breathing on Aaron Rodgers.
This game was so amazing. Trip to Super Bowl on the line, 2 head coaches that hate each other, an already great rivalry that hit its pinnacle this season, The grit and ferociousness from both teams, refs really letting the guys play, gutsy play calling, a last minute heart pumping drive that ends with an iconic play with an even more iconic post game interview. Utterly perfect football game.

I loved how a college football rivalry between coaches followed up to the pros. Such a great time in the league.
For a moment, it was the most intense rivalry in the league, surpassing Ravens-Steelers. This game was the peak of it. It’s a shame that it didn’t last that long.

2019 was the most recent memory of this rivalry being competitive. In between (14-18), Seahawks dominated during those years of head coach transitions for the niners.

What the Broncos had one of the top three offenses of all time. After Seattle won, it wasn't anywhere near a guarantee of a Super Bowl.

As a Niners fan looking back I loved this era for our rivalry. Never seen two teams hate each other so much, never failed to entertain.

between the coach drama, in division rivalry, hard nosed tackling, superbowl stakes on the line and post game interview... this was one of the most WWE-esque NFC champion games of all time and I LOVED every single moment of it.

Russell Wilson Literally grounded the ball TWICE and they only called it once, and that Free-Play that was a TD to Kearse should’ve NEVER happened because our offensive linemen false started and then there was a flag so the 49ers defense stopped playing so we could get an easy TD, then to top it off they picked up the flag and just called it a touchdown! I’m sorry my Fellow Seahawks fans but the refs gave us this one!! It just felt Premeditated and Dirty The Whole Way Through!!!

As a lifelong Seahawks fan, this game was the best for me, even better than the 43-8 drubbing in the Superbowl. To have this defense compared to the 85 and 86 Bears was a massive compliment. The Superbowl that year was testament to how good that defense really was. Denver's offense was the best in the league that year and they didn't stand a chance.

That 42-8 Super bowl was lame and pretty boring to watch since it wasnt even close, i would rather have a super bowl be a close game so that it can be more nail bitting and interesting and not knowing which team will come out with the win. Having a team just blow the opponent team out in the big game is just fun to watch, even if it was my favorite team blowing out the other. But that is just me and my own opinion/thought about it
As Niners fan they did have an incredible secondary but no where near as intimidating as the ‘85 Bears. We had a pretty good athlete at quarterback so he was hard to contain.

Yup, this was crazy to re-watch and see how brutally the Niners got robbed on calls, huge impact on the game. Gotta look the other way fast cause this makes the Super Bowl ring a giant asterisk.
I'm a diehard Eagles fan, but man the Legion of boom and the Seattle defense from like 2012-2015 was one of my absolute favorites... the stadium, the crowd, the energy, the big hits... great football. It's a shame it it was such a short run.

Short run? Seattle had the #1 scoring defense from 2012 through 2015 which tied the 1950s Browns for longest consecutive run in NFL history.
@omegamanGXE and the team itself only missed the playoffs twice with Wilson. Only one season with a losing record too. The Seahawks from 2012 till 2021 was the overall best team in the NFC statistically. It was a long as hell run for football. Everyone thinks you're supposed to be like the Patriots.

Was 11 when this game happened and cried when Sherman called it game. Sadness quickly turned to hate towards Sherman cause of his iconic Crabtree rant. Years later love Sherman and what he did for the 49ers.
2013 and 2014 NFC championship games in Seattle were absolutely bonkers. Still unbelievable to me that this game and the Packers game happened in consecutive years in the same stadium.
This rivalry was so intense, the head coaches, the player, and then 12th man, 49er's fans it was Sunday night football at it's best. We it was loved while it lasted. The Greastest Defense of all time in the NFL. LEGEND OF BOOM!!! Miss it

Niner fan here, this game was amazing. i remember the refs missed calls (blatant roughing the punter missed call, some obvious intentional grounding by wilson, giving seattle extension on the play clock). at the end of the day kap's two turnovers in the 4th big. seahawks did their thing

Such a painful loss for the faithful, losing Bowman like that, missing the roughing kicker call and I’ll never understand why Kap tried Sherman on 1st down and just not took the quick pass to Patton up top. Ended up being the end of great but heartbreaking era

Legendary. I remember the day I watched this with a handful of friends, Wilson jersey on. Lost my voice by the 2nd quarter. Every single play felt like a fight. Still the best game I've ever watched.
I read thru the comments and notice nobody talked about the real story here. This is the game that ended Kap. The super bowl the previous year and this game he made the same mistake twice going to crabtree. he didn't learn his lesson. Also this is the last game because The whole defense retired all of a sudden. Till this day I'm still waiting for a 30 for 30 to tell the story of why this was the last game for this All time great defense.

As an outsider, I was always drawn to #94 Justin Smith. Dude was a wrecking ball on the Dline and a huge reason their defense went from good to elite. In a 3-4 a dominant DE can make all the difference

Yep. Somehow Lynch sucked at short yardage despite being built like a fullback. There's so many more instances of a 3rd or 4th and 1 where he just sucks. Throwing was the right call, unfortunate as the ending was.
@@mandomerlie1997 I look at it this way: the Seahawks had the fake FG attempt vs. the Packers the following year which no one expected. The pass at the end of SB 49 was also unexpected. Had it worked, people would have called Carroll a genius.
I've done this on other threads, we were terrible in short yard situations and people act like it was a guarantee running the ball was a sure thing.
@@jimw9415 - Yes. Also, NFL Throwback has a video titled "Demons of the Past Come Back to Haunt! (Seahawks vs. Rams 2015, Week 1)" the first game after that super bowl loss to the Patriots. 4th and 1 in over time. Shotgun. Handoff to Lynch and stuffed hard by the Rams of all teams, who went 7-9 with two of those 7 wins against Seattle.
When Seattle needed 1 yard, giving it to lynch was the wrong choice far more often than it was the right choice.
Lynch was amazing... but he was amazing because of his vision and agility. Man could read blocks and step out of the way of Linebackers. he didn't run over linebackers, he side stepped them and ran through diving/reaching arm tackles. He typically lost against squared up Shoulder tackles. I think it was also the safety Ryan Clark who said and proved that if you squared lynch up in the hole, you were going to win. Lynch won with angles. When he got 45 degrees on you, his stiff arm and legs would turn away anything you gave him.

Looking back at this game, I’m starting to think Russell Wilson was never the guy. Always knew it was more our defense that kept us competitive, but seeing Russell now and Russell back then, it makes me think he wasn’t ever as good as he was made out to be.
Wussell Rilson was genuinely good but his unorthodox style of scrambling around and hitting big on broken plays could only last as long as his athleticism did. He could never really simply drive down a field like a normal quarterback by converting 3rd downs with check downs to keep the chains moving.
You gotta look and see he wasn't still under non-stop pressure and getting sacked left and right. There weren't any other QBs besides Krapernick who could scramble and pass like Russ. He never had time to sit in the pocket.

This was a great game man and to bad the niners lost but I've been over that lol. I can't believe this is now a decade old game and now Seattle has to travel to Sf this Saturday for the wildcard round in 2023. I was in my early 20s when Kap was still a qb in mid 2010s and I was still in college as well. Time goes by fast.
What a tough, intense game.As a long time 49ers fan after watching this and NFC CHAMPIONSHIP loss to the Giants in 2012, they were seriously lacking on Offense at Wide Receiver. Two tough losses to two tough teams .

Defense coordinators in this game should have received awards. The blitzes are just wonderful. The pass rushing is elite.
